Uruguay’s Lower House approved on Thursday the Unasur (Union of South American Nations) constitution protocol sending a strong message of support to the group’s summit in Guyana. Read full article
From the Great God Wiki - “ ... The Union of South American Nations ..... is an intergovernmental union integrating two existing customs unions: Mercosur and the Andean Community of Nations, as part of a continuing process of South American integration. It is modeled on the European Union ....... The group announced their intention to model the new community after the European Union including a common currency, parliament, and passport. According to Allan Wagner Tizón, former Secretary General of the Andean Community, a complete union like that of the EU should be possible by 2019........”
Really? And that's good?
Have you seen how well the EU is operating these days ?
Without the EU, Europe would surely be in a much deeper crisis and quite probably on its way to a War……………..as sooooo many times before in its history.
This political project is working perfectly for us so far……
Think: About the recent collapse of the governments of Ireland and France.
Think: About the coming Euro crisis that will likely tip us into a deeper global recession that the Lehman Brothers US debacle
Think: About the riots in Greece, UK, France and the inevitable social disorder coming soon.
Think: About a 'borderless ' Europe with economic migrants shifting from country to country disturbing patterns of local employment in regional economies
Think: About Europe's ultimate borders with (Belo) Russia and Iran and who has the energy, pipelines and valves to turn on and off at will and who doesn't have any energy resources
Think: About why Europe is on the verge of a catostrophic economic crisis and how could well be on it's way to deep civil disturbance and even war again in the Balkans.
Think: About countries locked into the Euro and the first one even to consider how to drop out to try solv eits economic woes.
Think: About the Eurozone trying to bail out Italy (ROTFL)
I hope that the economic integration of South America follows a more natural pattern than Europe. Mercosur is more honest than the now failing experiment of Europe. Gradual, realistic trade integration is more plausible, but the fast track version that was Europe is ultimately like a forced hothouse plant; beautiful to look at, but systemically unable to survive in the climatic conditions that are reality.
Enjoy your political project. Time will tell. For me it was an unmitigated, dishonest, corrupt disaster, which is precisely why I live and work in Latin America. with all of its attendant problems. Be sure that Redhoyt's 'cut and paste' concept of modernisation by well meaning but immature politicos aping European civilisation is not a desirable or practical reality for the region.
