Any doubt that the rise of prices is done buy the big supermarket chains thanks to their dominant procession?
This is a business opportunity who wants tomatoes for $1,74 same quality of those you pay in Disco/Cotto 7.99? over $100 purchase in vegetable free delivery to your home within BA.
: )
You clearly have no idea of how the retail business works, Nico.
Feb 14th, 2011 - 11:10 am - Link - Report abuse 0When I worked in shops, there was always round about 100% mark-up on most goods, apart from perishable goods (eg tomatoes) which would be higher.
If you want to pay less either go straight to the growers or wholesale markets, or grow your own.
You can't blame all your probems on the supermarkets.

@ Monty69
Feb 15th, 2011 - 03:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0Dear Monty some years ago I was supplier of household special Items that we manufactured to some of these HyperMakets (Cencosud SA owner of Jumbo, Disco SA and Coto SA to be precise).
What we sold to Cencosud SA at $10 they later sale it to $30 and not happy with that they asked to buy 2nd selection Items to maximize their profit. No enough for them the 30 days due payment agreement was delayed all the time to 60 and 90 days. After many operations with the same song we stopped to sale our products to them.
Don’t worry I know very well how is the retailer business in supermarket sector we call it “the perfect business for the fools”. Haha

@WestisBest
What selling at cost mate? $1.74 has 100% sale margin.
I think you guys got confused because the textarea of this forum (what we use to post our messages) had made a big mess with the format of the list.
Here a simple example so you can understand.
The cost of 1kg of tomatoes from where the supermarkets buy and later resale the same stuff, sales to any Fabio (any customer) to $0.89 (0.89 pesos) the Kg if he buys a closed box.
So buying cost for Fabio is $0,89 any supermarket sale the same to $7.99 800% over Fabio’s cost.
But if a supermarket buys they get huge discounts for volume, etc. What that can increase the margin even more.
So at least they get 800% profit over cost.
Now you tell me what legal business in the retail sector can work with that margin?
