Chile/Ecuador proposal for a UNASUR Antarctic base

Chile and Ecuador will be proposing their peers of Unasur, (Union of South American Nations) the establishment of a scientific research base in Antarctica, according to Ecuador’s Foreign Affairs minister Ricardo Patiño. Read full article

    Unlikely Think ... when the Arctic Treaty fails the whole world will be be heading in your direction .... UNASUR won't be enough!

    but no doubt the argentines will be around to claim what’s theirs,
    whenever money is found, you will find greed
    whenever Argentina is around , you can be sure that a claim wont be far behind lol.)

    mmm.. yeah, except 'claim' is too vague a term in this case

    First permanent Antarctic base: 1904 Argentina
    Since then, 6 permanent bases, 6 seasonal

    We don't claim our Antarctic sector, we own it outright. ツ
