.Well it does not really matter what he does, the world is to busy to worry about it, it will get put into the bin, Argentina will only push so far as no response is required by them at the court, , even if the UK did agree to talk’s with the argentine government with the Falklands being fully represented, the out come would most certainly be the same as it is right now, nothing will change, the fundamental rights of self determination cannot be over ruled [ever] as to do this, the UN and most countries in the world would have to give up or give back land that others claim, and this includes Argentina,, to give up any land claimed by others, [and ironically this includes the Falklands], the fact remains Argentina is trying to re-write all agreements to suit herself, and this cannot and will not be allowed, / perhaps if Argentina dropped its claims, then all this would disappear over night,, in argentine hands it is, [just an opinion

“Malvinas, we’re talking about the oldest sovereignty dispute of modern time”

No, it's not. Gibraltar's dispute is over 100 years older.

The UN was put to the test not so long ago in the 4th Committee, where Argentina sponsored a motion to declare that self determination did not apply in countries subject to sovereignty disputes. The motion failed by a significant margin.

Most UN members are not much interested in Argentina's foolish posturing, and can see the bigger picture - the UN Charter.

Hope Sr Timmerman enjoys the rest of his time in Thailand.

@ 5 “ self determination did not apply in countries subject to sovereignty disputes.” and that's true, why the problem?

“ The motion failed by a significant margin.” Simply bacause mafia dominates the UN. Do you feel proud about that?

“Hope Sr Timmerman enjoys the rest of his time in Thailand.” Timerman is Jewish (and isn't he an American citizen and has the Israeli citizenship too?) so he will go to Israel, I guess.

P.S. Thailand is a beautiful place, I don't like Timerman, so i was thinking of sending him to the Shetlands.

“and that's true, why the problem? ”

It's not true, as it is made evident from the rest of his post.

“Simply bacause mafia dominates the UN.”

Simply because the majority of the world believes in human rights.

6 xbarilox - No. he does not have a U.S. citizenship, nor do I believe an Israel citizenship. As Argentina requires all Argentina persons who accept an ambassadorship to a country (in this case, the U.S.) he had to give up his U. S. citizenship. I do not believe he ever was a citizen of Israel. When Israel kicked his father out of the country, his father probably lost his citizenzhip, also!

I imagine all those bright Thai students put him straight on international law.

I think the speakers giving this presentation should be rotated - it can destroy a person's confidence to keep repeating a failing message.

“Simply bacause mafia dominates the UN. Do you feel proud about that?” It's amazing, isn't it? Even with 7 Central and South American countries represented on the Decolonisation Committee, you still can't get a resolution.

Have to admit that the idea that the Mafia dominates the UN is, I believe, a new one even for Argentina. Getting desperate, are you? What you need is a court.

@ 13 what would we be getting desperate when we are not the ones living on stolen islands (Islas Malvinas)?
You are getting desperate, we're asking the UK to give back the islands to us, and the islanders are asking that the UN don't send them back to Britain, lol, do you see now who's getting desperate?

The islanders aren't asking the UN for anything. Argentina is asking us to talk, we've simply said no.
