US justice system should be looking into their own affair in Afghanistan, Wantanamo Cuba, Iraq, and Libya's human right abuse rather then hand out judgements to the Argentine system, I found an interesting video for them to watch. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c03_1240518549 I am sad that the Argentine president didn't shut down that garbage newpaper C(#&!N ! it is a complete waste of perfectly good toilet paper.

Well westisbest, they do not do much, afterall 1 money laundering conviction in the last 11 years in a high currupt country says it all really. Heres your bribe mr Judge. clearly the person that was convicted didnt have enough laundered money left to pay the judge his bribe. lol

I wonder if this person was really convicted of money laundering or just found guilty of breaking one of the “rules” required to uncover laundering? Like “keeping proper sales accounts and related paperwork to prove where money came from”. He was probably found not keeping proper books in order to pay less tax to the Argentina government!

what,,,,, Argentina do this, what a load of rubbish, Argentina is a great example to the world, a leader that looks after her people, cares for the poor, never hurts anyone, never attacks anyone, ,,why according to her loyal supportive bloggers, they were all zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
just like those above when this all happened, but then again DOYOU believe in fairies, they obviously do, , if you want to slag of the world Argentina will accommodate, if she does anything its denied , and they all disappear and zzzzzzzzzzz,, again please, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, I thought so .

“The US State Department released its annual report on Human Rights around the world and questioned the Argentine judicial system’s independence along with a series of abuses carried out by police forces including deaths and torture claims”

OK, no reason why it should not do this. The USA needs to measure its performance against that of all other states.

It found weaknesses in its own performance – but did not address, apparently, Guantanemo, Abu Ghrabe, or the *military* treatment of its alleged whistle-blower.

Mercopress, uneven-handedly, focused on Argentina (Press freedom, corruption, un-judicious judiciary, police mayhem, media control, suppression of dissident opinion, etc, etc).

It could have given a broad-brush approach to strengths and failures across South America . . . . or, at least, a link to the S.A. section in the definitive text.

As Mercopress grows up we will expect a grown-up approach to bias and balance.

Some of its Congressmen - Joe Lieberman, for instance - have made threats to websites that published US diplomatic cables Wikileaks obtained (Amazon.com, for instance). The US govt has also intimidated Paypal and banks into closing accounts through which Wikileaks supporters could donate to the organization. According to Frank la Rue, the UN official charged with press affairs, Wikileaks has a right to freedom of expression and it has committed no crimes by publishing the cables.

Avaaz presented an online petition for signing this week on the inhumanity of US treatment of the Wikileaker held in military custody.
Suspiciously, all links to the petition were unable to be activated - the first time it has happened.
The finger points directly at the US Dirty Tricks Department.

The link is now up and, Isolde, I recommend it to you.
Many of the causes that it flags are ones that I think you would support.

    eg:

    (i) “Thank you for signing the petition to stop the torture of Bradley Manning. Your name has been added.
The more people join this campaign, the more powerful our call will be! Send this email on to family and friends and post this campaign on Facebook:
    http://www.avaaz.org/en/bradley_manning/97.php?cl_tta_sign=55c7ff86b34851832c269c6a180c8239
    Thanks so much,
    The Avaaz Team”

(ii) ”While the corrupt politicians celebrate, Brazilian society is mourning Minister Luiz Fux's vote that put corrupt politicians back in Congress.
We can't be quiet, let's show the Minister that a betrayal to the people has a high political price. Forward the email below (in Portuguese) to your friends and family, and ask them to send messages to the Minister!

    Thank you!
PS. If you can, call the Minister's office on the phone: (61) 3217-4388”
