Apr 16th, 2011 - 09:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The loss of the war led to the resignation of Galtieri on June 17 of the same year and a fourth (and last) junta was placed in power under a new president, Reynaldo Bignone. Raul Alfonsin's civilian government took control of the country on December 10, 1983. Galtieri along with other members of the former junta, was soon arrested and charged in a military court with mismanagement during the war. They were also charged later on human rights violations during the Trial of the Juntas.

Apr 20th, 2011 - 08:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0not even the Nazis killed there own people, thousands of
the educated elite of Argentine society where killed, lawyers, doctors, engineers, University students simply for not agreeing with certain aspects of government legislation and corruption that was growing at that time.
The Argentine military was once a noble part of Argentine society defeating the Spanish and the British forces during the early 1800's
in order to become a Republic but its fall of grace came during 1974 backed by the U.S Govn't onwards when the Argentine military began to assasinate it's own people and with the loss of the Islas Malvinas , however the new Argentine Military has learned from the shadowy past and can look forward to a more brighter future ahead.
Tiger,
Apr 20th, 2011 - 10:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0many nations kill their own elites during regime change - it's all part of the process of 'irreversibility' (Even tigers and lions do it with their potentially competitive offspring of the former 'top cat').
It's not just a right wing military thing.
Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung and Stalin were just three of the better known contemporary ones. Left wing, right wing, who can really tell?
Let's hope you're right about learning the lesson and the brighter future.
