Mercosur already supplies the EU with 86% of its beef imports; 70% of chicken meat purchases as well as 50% of Europe’s vegetable protein demand.
All the more reason to tie the deal tight, tight, tight.
If the Mercosur foodstuffs become, by default, sequestrated by eg China (and it could EASILY happen), the countries of the EU will find themselves qualitatively and quantitatively in Food Deficit with no alternative supply sources.
