“Venezuela’s full incorporation to Mercosur has been stalled since 2006 at the Paraguayan Senate which so far has refused to vote since many members argue that under President Chavez, Venezuela is not a democracy: civil rights are limited and members of the opposition are persecuted as well as the press.” (Mercopress)

“we are not against integration, on the contrary we support integration but before we need democratic agreements, a sustainable democracy and dialogue” (Venezuelan opposition)

So Paraguay are *at last* being reported by Mercopress as blocking Venezuela's entry to Mercosur *for political reasons*, not because the Paraguayan parliament is in disarray.

The reasons are SOUND, and Mercopress does itself no service by hiding this from us.

Mercopress being BRITISH serves only Britain, doesn't really mater what they say.

Venezuela will be part of Mercosur, it's just a matter of time.

Please remember that Mercosur is simply aTrading Bloc,
not a political (or a politicised) union of nations.

The present trading conditions in Venezuela are so far removed from the trading paradigm of Mercosur,
it would need a big, big, change in Venezuela's production, management and control structures to accommodate co-operative trade as practiced world-wide.

Any attempt by Venezuela to manipulate (eg) Mercosur's trade to meet Venezuela's radical political agenda would damage many South American nations.

Venezuela is also, with Cuba, a leader of the Basket-Case Group of Central American/Caribbean nations -

Resist, at all costs; otherwise it will be All Costs.

And that's the way it should be and stay. Period.

Geoff, you're a typical Bureaucrat and terrible businessman. Who cares about the Rhetoric of Venezuela, Cuba etc. etc. etc. If they need your product(s) and they have money, just do business. Doing business with them doesn't mean you (always) agree with them. Chavez wants to spend, let him and make sure he buys your products or whatever he needs. That's business/Capitalism.
