The Royal Navy’s HMS York on the last leg of her five-month deployment to the South Atlantic on Falkland Islands patrolling is heading for Britain after having shifted oceans to the Pacific. Read full article
Peru the Argies great mate
Chortle chortle......................
Next stop for HMS York was Callao in Peru for a four-day break.
On arrival there were the all-important official calls carried out by the
captain as he paid courtesy visits to senior Peruvian officers, whose port authority laid on buses for the ship's company so they could move between the harbour and the sights of nearby Lima.
Chilean refuelling, and Naval Pilotage of the Magellan Straight, Peruvian Navy Officers bending over backwards to accommodate a shore leave, and use of the Panama Canal, tut, tut, there we were encircling South America all the time.
I thought the Navy News carried an excellent story about how the Royal Navy would be getting support and training opportunities on US Navy Carriers preparing them for operating our new Royal Navy Carriers when they are completed. This IS the Special Relationship, seen in operation.
I also understand the French will also be assisting in a similar fashion, also allowing RN and RAF Pilots to practice landings on their current French Carrier, although the pilots will have learn to speak French. This IS the Defence Cooperation Agreement, seen in operation.
So much political capital made of a Presidential Signature on a pathetic OAS document, when the reality is so much different.
The Malvinists should cry in their beers at this point.
It’s thought to be the first time in a decade that a British ship has taken supplies from a Chilean tanker (in this case CNS Almirante Montt), which was simultaneously RASing with Almirante Williams – formerly Type 22 frigate HMS Sheffield.
The Chileans do things much as we do – their Navy’s modelled to a considerable degree on the Senior Service and a good few Chilean sailors have ‘enjoyed’ the experience of Operational Sea Training off Plymouth.
And some things they do differently. Like blasting rock music across the upper deck during the middle of the fuel transfer…
With 350,000 litres of fuel – nearly 77,000 gallons or enough to fill the tanks of 6,300 Ford Focuses – transferred to York during the 80-minute RAS, the destroyer staged a fast steam past of the two Chilean vessels to show her gratitude before resuming her journey north.
“Recognising that a Type 42 Destroyer needs a regular pit stop, the Chilean Navy were nothing but excellent from the moment the request for this RAS was submitted,”
@4 geo Small point but the Falkland Islanders ARE home. That's why they're called Falkland Islanders. Do you enjoy the wind whistling between your ears?
Good to see how well the Royal Navy (and Britain) gets on with Chile and Peru. Still that's what the RN and Britain are like. Always glad to have relationships with intelligent reasonable people.
@6 R.G.R Liars I don't think the ARA dares come out of port when the RN is about. The one occasion I remember the ARA vessel said it was off-course. And went away. I recall that was also HMS York. And the ARA Drummond.
The people of the Malvinas are there illegally. The Argentine claim goes back to the Spanish claim and this was supported by Rome. England is a protestant country and in order to prevent Latin America being influenced by England Rome set down edict. Even though Britain claims Falkland Islands before Spain, their claim does not count. We landed on the island and set up a colony of 22 men, they would not leave until forced to by American ship. The population there now have been there ever since, they are like squatters and have no right to the land. That land is ours by devine right!
Ahh, a couple of SArgies bring some intelligent reasoning to the debate. Flipflop thinks that a 15th C Papal bull gave Spain the right to half the world and that Spain then gave those areas to Argentina. Wrong on both counts, which displays a poor grasp of history. Doesn't know the details of the 'Lexington Raid' either. I suggest you read something useful Flipflop. Try - http://www.falklandshistory.org/spanish4.pdf
And of course, MoreCrap! Full of sh*t and getting used to it :-)
Good to see a little co-operation between the RN and others :-))
Yes Rotted I am getting used to it :-)
No wonder we can't even topple a tin-pot gangster like Gaddafi: Invincible, pride of the Falklands, is broken up in knacker's yard
The Invincible is just one of many ships sent to Turkey to be broken down.
What of it? That's what you do with warships that are obselete or old....they could sell such relics off to Argentina I suppose, the ships the RN scrap are better than the pride of the Argentine....ahem...snigger.....'Navy'.
@14. Thats not what the RGs do with their old ships...
While some of the obsolete like Drummond can still go to sea after a fashion their old ships can't ... they are just left to rot alongside at Ushuaia, Mar del Plata, Ensenada, Darsena Norte, etc., ...... the dumfrucks don't even have the ability or competence to break up their own ships.........
That's scraping the barrel Marcos, being reduced to anti-British poetry. You Argies really are world class at wishful thinking. What you really need to do as a nation is man the fuck up and grow a pair, not that you will of course.
Yes an anti-British rant, by loser of world history,
Sadly some never learn their mistakes, thus resulting in losing again and again,
A fool’s paradise, napoleon, Philip Hitler and Argentinian dictatorship,
And now Cristina Fernández de Kirchner
France Spain Germany Argentina, G.A.F.S.,
THEY LEARNT THE HARD WAY, and so will you .
.. Old England's sons shall rise
The altar and the Crown.
Rejoicing seas shall welcome
Their mistress once again;
Again the banner of St. George
Shall rule upon the main.
”The blood of the invader
Her pastures shall manure,
His bones unburied on the fields
For monuments endure.
Typical Argie .... selecting the bits that suit :-))
He also missed out the bits railing against democracy and women's rights.
Interesting piece though; it could only have been written in the late 1800s, a time of massive and distressing change for Britain's ruling classes.
England expects every man to do his duty [and win]
Argentina demands every man fights illegally and lose .
The British will fight to defend freedom of the people
Argentina will fight to take away your freedom
We will defend democracy
Argentina will enforce her will upon you .
So let’s be honest,
Argentina is only interested in herself
