“ .... with scientists active in Antarctica ...”

From what I've read here before, most of Argentina's 'scientists' wear a uniform and don't actually do much science lol.

The treaty doesn't say demilitarised, it speaks of hostile military activity being prohibited by the agreement signed by those present.

Wiki records only one occasion of a country breaking the 'military action' clause of this global Treaty.
They were, of course, summarily removed, though there remain the tears and tantarums.

Or to quote Article 1 in its entirety:

“1. Antarctica shall be used for peaceful purposes only. There shall be prohibited, inter alia, any measures of a military nature, such as the establishment of military bases and fortifications, the carrying out of military maneuvers, as well as the testing of any type of weapons.

    2. The present Treaty shall not prevent the use of military personnel or equipment for scientific research or for any other peaceful purposes.”

Is there a celebration every day of the year in Argentina?

I was in Argentina at the time of the last census. Everyone had the day off! Extraordinary. We had our census in the UK earlier this year and I completed the form online one evening in about 5 minutes. Maybe we are missing a day off work trick. : )

” ...Seven countries (Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom) maintain territorial claims in Antarctica, but the United States and most other countries do not recognize those claims.... the United States maintains a basis to claim territory in Antarctica, ...”

I'm sorry MoreCrap ... what were you saying? Oh, you think that holding the celebration in BA is in some way significant? Hardly surprising as the Treaty organisation has its headquarters there. Don't get so excited :-)

Elaine the problem is this, they are just getting through another shitty day in a shitty broken backwater fifth rate country, one that is held together with corruption, crime, and lies (including the Big Lie); thats why they celebrate every day, having survived another 24 hours of shit.

    zzzzzz...

This propaganda gossip magazine is getting more and more boring... and lame.

Nothing but old.. jaded senile Brits talking shit about Argentina, you'd think if you really were in 'control' of your future you'd ignore Argentina altogether, instead you focus all your attention on it.

When Argentina regains control of Malvinas I'll forget you even exist.

    Yes, Martin,
it does get jaded - from 'both' points of view.
Trouble is, whenever we get a new poster, we rehash the same argument from both points of view, every time.
Even I get worn down by its repetition.

Try us with some 'good news' stories.
I, for one, will try to give a good news response.

But for Christ's sake! Will you ever stop picking on each other? I'm a frenchman, for several reasons very interested in the Falklands/Malvinas conflict and a regular visitor of this page, but getting sick and tired of pointless childish discussions. Why don't you use this forum to bring both countries closer and move forward?. I think I pointed this out some time in the past, but did you know Argentina is home to the biggest british descendant community in the whorld after the commonwhealth nations, usa, etc.? You'd be surprised to look closely at an argentinian map and read the names of some towns, specially down south. I visited B.A. last year, there is an “Plaza de los Ingleses”, places like Glew, Hurlingham, Banfield, etc., let alone the Welsh Country in Patagonia. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_settlement_in_Argentina
    or for example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_settlement_in_Argentina
I still can't understand why British keep ignoring this fact and Argentinians try to rid themselves of this heritage...
Couldn't this be a place for good will and honest constructive friendship?
    Thank you.
    LB.

Of course Seaniox so thats why the BAS has not had its budget cut?

Everyone knows there are zilch Argentine scientists in Antarctica most of them are military personnel and their families who don't really want to be there unglamorously shipped out for a 1 year tour of duty at a vast expense to the Argentine tax payer so you can maintain your barmy claims based on a wooden hut you brought from a Scot in the 1900's....

William Speirs Bruce was his name Isolde, of the Scottish National Antarctic expedition I'm quite sure only the hut was in the title deeds, not 16,000km2 of Antarctic peninsula :)

    @22Rhaurie,
Some of my dad's ancestors came from Dumfries, l could possibly be related to him. So by Argentine logic l could claim the Antarctic peninsula! Only joking!

I would be a very happy man If that new shed I brought the other day from B&Q entitled me to 16,000km2 + territorial waters of Scotland :)

    @24 Rhaurie,
Excellent detective work, Rhaurie. He looks similar to how l pictured him believe it or not, a nasty piece of work.
l can feel the bad vibrations from down here.
His one redeeming feature l feel is he seems to like cats.
Once again, l congratulate you on your discovery.

hehe thanks Isolde it didn't really require much detective work, the pleb left a trail that anyone could follow (copying and pasting his own phrases from Flickr onto here?!?!? WTF! XD ) even Deany sussed that he was a mercopressatire when the gimboid copied something said by More-crap onto the discussion page of flickr....The hilarious thing is I stumbled upon the nutjob completely by accident...a mere glance at this insane gun totting red-necks ravings and I can already see several of the exact same ones on both Mercopress and Flickr, and the telegraph.

He looks like an angry lonely man, the pictures of him pot shootin in good ol ootah confirm my suspicions of small penis syndrome.

A dangerous individual and one to keep well away from, I feel his one redeeming feature is that he is for the Argies point of view anybody that deluded and angry weakens their pitiful case still further, if we gave that boy a podium at the UN the sovereignty dispute would be over instantly in our favor :)
