“ ... However he did not detail how the change would take place ...”

And therein lies the problem. Another problem is that for a change of this nature two thirds of the vote is required .... so 100 is not enough.

Britain is in favour of change, but if you think we are going to support handing the asylum over to the lunatics, you are likely to be waiting a very long time :-)

Marcos we are on the Security council because we created it, Britain is one of the most powerful countries on earth - A Technological & Scientific powerhouse that has shaped the world you live in. Its the British who are responsible for Industrial revolution, The Information age (invention of the computer) & The Nuclear age (splitting of the Atom).

    Noticeable British inventions.
The jet engine, Football, The World Wide Web, Tennis, Television, radio, railways, computer, galvanised rubber, combustion engine, steam engine, gas turbine, solar energy, dna, mdma, freon, diesel, calculus, digital imaging, bicycle, pneumatic tyre, petroleum distillation, nylon, DNA Fingerprinting and Profiling, Golf, Viagra, The Telephone. Plutonium, Toaster, Matches, Submarine, Vacuum cleaner, Cricket, The light bulb, Carbonated Soft Drinks, Plastic, Nuclear weapons ( with USA & Canada), Radar, Carbon fibre, Cat Scan, Tanks, Trains, Electric Motor just to name but a few of the many wonderful things Britain has given the world.

Not bad for a nobody country hey Marcus.

    No, I'm Spartacus!

'Sod this, if we all claim to be Spartacus all that will happen is that we'll ALL be the roadside decorations between here and Rome!'

'And I guess if we're ALL on the Security Council, there'll be no need for security anymore.'

zool fool, spare yourself with all that crap you mentioned what “britain” invented. It's a joke what you typed. the UN is today what was created by the US with other nations who won world war 2(League of nation). Who's idea was it? Former president Woodrow Wilson.

The UN should be abolished. Brazil should not bother and waste it's money on that joke.

“Britain is one of the most powerful countries on earth”

Ha ha ha any other good joke?

“The Information age (invention of the computer)”

1- Z3 “In Germany, Konrad Zuse In 1935, he began to design a program-controlled machine in his parents' home in Berlin. It was based on the binary system and used punched tape for the program input. The Z1, which was built between 1936... In 1940, Zuse began to build a successor to the Z1 based on relay technology. In May 1941, he finished the Z3 - worldwide the first freely programmable program-controlled automatic calculator that was operational.”
    http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Z3_Deutsches_Museum.JPG

2- Von Neumann (Hungarian mathematician) developed modern computer architecture to manage interruption devises used in ENIAC project in USA. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Z3_Deutsches_Museum.JPG

    3- “The Nuclear age”
Have you ever heard about Marie Curie (Polish, Polonium) and Lise Meitner (Austrian), Otto Hahn (German)?

    http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Z3_Deutsches_Museum.JPG
    http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Z3_Deutsches_Museum.JPG

    4- About your ADN.
The first to isolated the ADN (acid desoxirribonucleico) was Friedrich Miescher in Switzerland (1869)

And Luis Federico Leloir (Argentinean) researched and discovered most of its components when studied the formation and chemical breakdown in the body of lactose (a sugar present in milk) and glycogen (a carbohydrate energy source stored in the liver). Studying these sugars, Leloir discovered sugar nucleotides, compounds that combine part of a sugar molecule with a nucleotide to build different sugar molecules. Nucleotides, which are compounds of carbon, oxygen, phosphorus, and other chemicals, are the main components of DNA, the hereditary material found in genes.

Well Zool most of what your posted is pure rubbish propaganda as the examples above.

Yes I have heard about Marie Curie and Lise Meitner & Otto Hahn but what have they got to do with the splitting of the atom?
The Nuclear age began when the atom was split by Ernest Rutherford a British chemist and physicist who became known as the father of nuclear physics.

English mathematician Charles Babbage (1792–1871) designed a mechanical computing machine called the “analytical engine.” It is considered the forerunner of the digital computer, a programmable electronic device that stores, retrieves, and processes data. The Z1 designed by Konrad Zuse was also a mechanical computer.
The worlds first Electronic Computer, was created by a man called Alan Turing from Cambridge UK an English mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and computer scientist. He was highly influential in the development of computer science, providing a formalization of the concepts of “algorithm” and “computation” with the Turing machine, which played a significant role in the creation of the modern computer.[1] Turing is widely considered to be the father of computer science and artificial intelligence.
ENIAC was the first general-purpose electronic computer. It was a Turing-complete digital computer capable of being reprogrammed to solve a full range of computing problems.

    @Zool

and you believe all that crappy propaganda?

Are you calling this a digital device predecessor? Are you joking?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:AnalyticalMachine_Babbage_London.jpg

Anyway do you even know what is an algo?

Oh! Sure the Turing machine that only was a strip with squares was the father of modern computer.

Look the Mayas, Aztecs, Chinese and Japs may be other too have calculators too, should we consider them the fathers of the computers? Of course not.

Until the end of 1970 some devices could be programmed to perform some basic task as sequencers and store data in memory made with diodes far more advanced of what you consider this old crap and these devices never were considered a computer.

If for you something that can performs a basic arithmetic task is a computer I guess your switches in your wall that turns your light on and off are pretty useful.

Try with four switches in parallel in your wall and you will be able to compute and count to 16 digits after all is what computers does here we go.

    Off off off off=0
    Off off off on= 1
    Off off on off=2
    Off off on on=3
    Off on off off=4
    Off on off on=5
    0ff on off on=6
    off on on off=7
    on off off off=8
    on off off on=9
    on off on off=10
    on off on on=11
    on on off off=12
    on on off on=13
    on on on off=14
    on on on on=15

But if you want to perform something more complex you can try with the Maya calculator they know about math and astronomy more than your whole Cambridge ha ha.

What a loser you lost your argument & now try to change the subject.

Time magazine named Turing one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century, states: “The fact remains that everyone who taps at a keyboard, opening a spreadsheet or a word-processing program, is working on an incarnation of a Turing machine”

Babbages Analytical Engine was much more than a calculator and marks the progression from the mechanized arithmetic of calculation to fully-fledged general-purpose computation.

Ask any IT expert & they will all tell you the same Babbage created the first( Mechanical) & Turing the first (Electronic)

HAHa I cant believe your comparing the Myans to Cambridge.

    @ Zool

Let me see I will ask to my self...

    Nope pure propaganda sorry

So I can tell you that all that crap is pure propaganda, a couple of relays programmable by wires or a strip with squares is to modern computers what a wheel made of stone in prehistory is to a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Having said that let’s see what you didn’t read from the article you cited from Time.

“Turing's thoughts were recognized by the few readers capable of understanding them as theoretically interesting, even provocative. But no one recognized that Turing's machine provided a blueprint for what would eventually become the electronic digital computer.”

“So many ideas and technological advances converged to create the modern computer that it is foolhardy to give one person the credit for inventing it.”

And I add like transistors, circuits integrated, miniaturisation, tool machines, etc, etc, etc.

Now you say “What a loser you lost your argument & now try to change the subject”

Nope I never changed the subject, what I posted above was the basic of the binary system 0 I that with 0000 continuos positions (bit) you can count 16 logic positions and with 8 (byte) to 255.

This is the basic of how electronics works and with an Integrated working as a pulse generator (clock) another working as counter, a decimal decoder and a 4 tri-dieodes (triacs), etc. You can create a circuit able to control lights to perform sequences like those used in the 80 and 90 in a discotheque. haha

Any donkey posting things about electronics or computers should recognised that, basic of digital logic.

About the Mayan civilization, they could calculate with mathematical precision many events.

Only donkeys laugh about what they don't know.

Any donkey posting things about electronics or computers should recognised that basic of digital logic

George Boole English mathematician and philosopher.

As the inventor of Boolean logic—the basis of modern digital computer logic—Boole is regarded as a founder of the field of computer science.

    @Zool

Dear Zoologic are you going to name all Brit mathematicians and philosophers to probe your point?

“the basis of modern digital computer”

When Boole published his Laws of Thought in 1854 he had any idea what was a computer or a integrated circuit and less a transistor.

Pythagoras around 500/30 BC postulated that the sum of the squares of the cathetus of a triangle rectangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. a2 + b2 = c2

This simple statement is used in buildings by architects for example to constructed in the corner a skycraper.

Should we give to Pythagoras the title of the father of the skycrapers?

Should we give to the Iraqi the title of the fathers of GPS?

These are classic Brit nationalistic statement. Because by using this logic the Mesopotamian, the Greeks, Chinese, Romans, etc. Have invented everything what you know today.

Boolean logic comparison is a basic logic that even a dog uses. If the dog feels hunger then eat, If the dog is tired then sleep else gua gua. True or false by a given condition. Simple logic that exist since the creation of the world.

    If (condition here) is true

    Then

    Do this

    If (condition here) is false

    Then do that
    Else nothing

Boole never found any practical application to his postulate in fact he never have any idea what to do with that. Until Shannon 70 years later in the MIT USA make a thesis saying that switch works that way yes no, true false, on of, etc. But they were already invented without using Boole theory.

Anyway following your logic we should give the title of the invention of electronics, IT, GPS, guide systems, Engineering, etc. To the Babylons, Egyptian, Chinese, Greeks, they named this science Mathematics after all. Without all these modern world would not exist as we know today.

But if we talk about modern computers what about Federico Faggin (an Italian physicist electrical engineer) who designed the first CMOS technology and the first microprocessor and led 4004 MCS-4 proj. for Intel?
