Children should be taught how to cross the road safely, and not worry about the hazards of UXOs, I'm glad to see that the Argies on here can joke about something so monstrous as mines.

Maybe, just maybe, if Argentina hadn't of pulled out of the clearence agreement, then the mines would be no more, so you wouldn't have to read about them when newer children into the world are taught about the dangers left behind nearly 30 years ago by an illegal invasion force.

The horrible and monster minefields are still there only because you lot people want or suits as a cheap propaganda against Argentina that nobody believe.

And I repeat that the Argentine Government on many occasions offered to remove the minefileds, and NEVER pulled out that offer or agreement.

The only funny thing in this despicable situation is the attitude of your government who prefer to show the mines to students and to everybody around like a souvenir during 30 years instead of remove them......pathetic dear squeatters.

You have just made the point and the point is not hard to see the scientists were taken to not only the USA but other country’s at the end of WW2 the emphasis on the word taken, Were on the other hand Argentina opened its arms from about 1944 and welcomed the likes of Martin Bormann Joseph Mengele and Erich Priebke and this went on after the end of WW2. (this next bit is just cut and past from wiki) Argentina was a popular destination for Nazis. Declassified files show how Buenos Aires helped establish a network to rescue Collaborators and Nazis from post war Europe. The Network issued false paperwork to help Nazis escape the Allies, via the port of Genoa and finally by ship to Argentina. Once in Argentina Juan Perón's government protected them and they settled in the southern regions of the country. In early October 1999 Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff tracked Ustasha Dinko Šakić, the former commandant of Jasenovac concentration camp (nicknamed the “Auschwitz of the Balkans”). Sakic had lived in Argentina for more than fifty years.

#11, “The horrible and monster minefields are still there only because you lot people want or suits as a cheap propaganda against Argentina that nobody believe.”

Obviously you have no clue on mine clearance, tell me, how do you locate plastic mines that were not marked on any map by your cowardly forces? Come on fountain of all propaganda, tell me. Myself and the rest of the world are dying to know.

“And I repeat that the Argentine Government on many occasions offered to remove the minefields, and NEVER pulled out that offer or agreement.”

Piss off, your government pulled out of that 1999 agreement, along with every other agreement it has ever made regarding the Falklands, who are you trying to kid??

“The only funny thing in this despicable situation is the attitude of your government who prefer to show the mines to students and to everybody around like a souvenir during 30 years instead of remove them......pathetic dear squeatters.”

SO mine awareness is not vital to the new generation when they start school?? That's a great idea numbnuts, lets just not tell the newer generation about the mines, and allow them to wonder freely wherever they like. Are YOU mentally retarded?? The reason there have been no deaths by your mines, is because of these awareness lessons.

Every time i was about to deploy to Bosnia, i had to undergo rigorous mine training, then again in theatre, we had to undergo it again and again, for our own safety. But why am i telling you this, you are obviously so anti British that you can not see the safety issue.

It would of been better in 82 to send all the prisoners out to wonder over your mines, but then again, we are more civilised than you vermin.

I must apologize to the Argentine people for we the nasty British gave a passport to some one that was plotting the overthrow of the government of a number of South American country’s, not only that but we let him plan all this wile he was living in England, Not only that we even went as far as to give him passage to Buenos Aires under the protection of the British flag aboard the British frigate the George Canning
You may ask when and who, well the when was 1812 as for the who well that was Jose de San Martin.

I believe (and please correct me if I am wrong) that the known minefields were fenced off in 1982 as there was considerable concern about the risk of injury to the deminers. With technological advances it is far easier (although not much quicker) to detect and deactivate the type of mines that were scattered almost at random.

Obviously demining is a far more slow and painstaking process than mine setting, if for no other reason than if you set a mine wrong then chances are the worst that will happen is it doesn't go off when it's supposed to. Whereas demining tends to be a somewhat darwinian process, if you do it wrong then chances are you'll be sufficiently badly damaged not to be able to try again.

It is time for the argentine government and people to show a real willingness to address this issue. Best option is for a volunteer group of around 20,000 argentines to visit the Islands where they would link arms and drag metal bins across the minefields. An inexpensive option as most argentines would only take the trip to the Islands one way. In order to aspire to the same levels as do argentines, surviving members of the volunteer mine disposal group should be flown back to the “mainland” by British C-130 aircraft. Displaying a proper argentine level of humanity and ability, they should be shoved off the tail ramp halfway between Stanley and Buenos Aires in order to ensure that they reach home as soon as possible and, incidentally, giving them the opportunity to learn how to fly. In a final gesture of everlasting and undying friendship, the argentine war cemetary should be designated as the central target area for the UK Forces missile, bomb and artillery range. Thereby reducing the need for argentine “civilians” and spies to travel to the Islands. The first trip of the argentine mine disposal group should be planned for a significant date in English history. Like 5 November. In order to provide a real “historical” experience, the survivors should then be held in a barn, on a diet of peanuts, crisps and other bar snacks, until starting their return journey to the Atlantic Ocean, sorry, Argentine Sea, in order to engage in the popular hobbies of sky-diving and arm-flapping. Although, to cater for catholic beliefs, it may be appropriate to nail their wrists and ankles to a suitable cross to ensure the proper sky-diving body attitude.

The Argies one way or another are a pain in the arse where mines are concerned

Chile will spend nine million dollars this year to remove thousands of land mines planted along the Argentine, Bolivian and Peruvian borders during a territorial dispute in the late 1970s

The Chilean Army is currently clearing four fields planted with anti-personnel mines in Tierra del Fuego and will move to another four once the job is finalized, reported the Commander Gonzalo Echeverria, from the 5th Engineers Battalion seated in Punta Arenas.

“There is a very good reason why Argentina is not permitted to pay for the removal of mines in the Falkland Islands. The Ottawa Treaty requires states to remove the mines fron their own territory. The Falkland Islands are not Argentine territory. I understand that Argentina was involved in the early stages of planning the demining, but their input was not required in the end. This is the correct approach in my opinion”

There is a peaceful solution so_far first what you do is STFU and look what is going on in your own country at this moment in time, there are some who are telling us over and over that CFK is anti military, but if you look at the news coming out of the Argentine any one can see she is kissing the ass of the military,CFK + Military = back door Junta. May I ask now that Cristina Kirchner is getting in bed with the military
How long will it be before we hear the sound of marching jack boots on the streets once more as the Argentina army attempt slowdown the rush of people trying to volunteer for scientific and medical experimentation?.
How long before there stadiums are getting used for quiz nights were every one is a winner and get's a free flight over the South Atlantic?.
How long before the famous black taxis are back on the streets with there free pick up's?.
How long before the Argentina military adoption service is back up and running?.
All so just take a look at the face of CFK any time she mentions the Falklands she as the look of some one playing five-card-draw wile holding aces over eights( the dead man's hand) and thinking this is a good hand I'm going to play it.

Marcos, it was possiblyy me who once said that it was quite handy having a minefield to show visiting tourists just what legacy Argentina left behind! But keep thing is context please - obviously we would all prefer if the minefields were NOT here - but we accept the real world - that thing lots of Argentines alwatys dodge!
Many contain unmarked mines and will be very very difficult and dangerous to clear 100% even if possible.
I am not toally sure of the legalities but I think the Ottowa Convention says it is the responsibility of the Country who has them to clear them .
Did Arg actually formly offer in writing to PAY for their removal? If so who was to have done the job?
Firstly there is no way Islanders would ahve accepted Argentines coming here to do the job - apart from anything we would never trust your people to do the job properly and 100%!
Please list the Agreements Arg has signed with the UK and Islands post 1982 - and broken.
Also list the ones you ares till managing to stick to- I think the only one is the monthly Lan flight to and from Rio Gallegos.
Please list all the “inconveniences” Arg has deliberatly put in our way also since 2002.
This will help you realise why we would never trust you on Minefields!
Also I believe that if UK were to accept Arg paying for the clearances ( if you did offer) then there would be huge problems in other countries- North Africa would ask UK,Germany.Italy etc to remove all those from World war 2 etc and so on!
In an ideal world we would like them to go - BUT - here they are fenced off - in lots of places in Central Africa and Asia they are not- and children etc die every day from them. We say to the UK - please use your money instead to clear all those first - even if nothing to do with UK.
    We are humane and realistic.

But still you believe you have more right to land than someone who was born, raised, educated, intends to live the rest of his life there and raise his family there. But this is the Argentine logic....incoherent.

You whine and complain about what happened in 1833, but you then are critical of those who whine and complain about what happened in 1982. It is just astounding how indoctrinated, ignorant and hyperocritical Argentines are. But I have to say, at least they are consistent. From the morons (Marcos and So_Far) to those who try to portray themselves as intelligent (Think), its the same rhetoric...PIRATES! SQUATTER! But in the end thats all they have....insults. They call for justice, but they dare not take their case to the one body that will make a binding resolution to this so-called 'dispute'. Instead they take their claim to impotent bodies, who could careless about the Falklands, and spout even more rhetoric, so the leaders of Argentina can look like they are doing something in front of the voting public. But in reality, they are doing nothing to colonise the Falklands.

Once again...I am enjoying watching the British flag fly over the Falklands, as Argentina continues to move sideways in their attempt to subjegate the population of the Falklands. Just another day and Argentina are no where near completing their objective.

You think that if the British invasion forces now in Iraq that stay 150 years occupying the land by force, that will give rights to the descendants to claim the sovereignty of Iraq ? even in the 7th generation ?

What happened in 82 was a mistake made by a dictatorship that ruled the country, that nobody wanted and they had their fair Judgement, all being in jail to life imprisonment.

This in no way justifies what happened in 1833 and less why UK don´t obbey UN resolution niether asks and calls from international comunity trough important org (OAS, UNSASUR, MERCOSUR, etc) for find a pacefully solution in this controversy caused only by an illegal ocupation of Malvinas since 1833 and expelling in evil way Argentinean inhabitants who lived in peace in that period in the islands (women, men, childrens, governor, commerciants, workers, gauchos, even a garrison with soldiers etc.etc)

Although you do not like the word, you lot are in illegal way in Argentine territory (squatters), and constitute an special case of colonization in C-24 of United Nations eyes that need a solution in civilized way.

Argentina obbey UN organism and is wating with good will in the table for find together a solution....., thats the main reason why she has strong internation support and because UK is increasingly isolated for bad behaviour and example to other nations.

is a question of attitude dear “islander”

Bit hard for them to do that considering there are no British invasion forces in Iraq.

But to answer your question, no they wouldn't.

“What happened in 82 was a mistake made by a dictatorship that ruled the country, that nobody wanted”

Complete lie. You went from smashing the streets up one day to celebrating in the streets after finding out the war had started.

“expelling in evil way Argentinean inhabitants who lived in peace in that period in the islands”

    Didn't happen.

Even non-Indian Argentinians have Native descent.

Is not a squatter a person or persons who reside illegally on land or property
That does not belong to them,
And are not at least welcome by the original habitant’s,
    If this is so,
Then does this not apply to argentines squatters who are not wanted by the original inhabitants of Argentina who want their land back, that was stolen by the Spanish and passed on to the illegal Europeans, who thus called themselves [now] argentines,
Is it not a fact, that you are the illegal squatters, who killed robbed and stole the land of the originals south American Indians, and who in part wiped them out,
The Falkland’s on the other hand have always been British, and Argentina, [modern name]
    Has never never owned them,
So then who are the real illegal immigrants, [if you’re going to get technical?]
    ..

“Even non-Indian Argentinians have Native descent.”

Argentines have Native ancestry/ancestors, or Argentines are of Native descent/ Argentines descend from Natives.

I have English, French, German, and Irish ancestry. I am of English, French, German, and Irish descent

ancestry/ancestors: from me to the past
descent/descend from: from the past to me

Thank you, dab1. But I found that form (“to have x descent”) in many stances - including in books - through google. I don't know how valid your “correction” is, but it is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, so don't get (or try to get others) distracted from the real issue.

I don't think it was an intentional thing, topics here seem to have a time limit and then they close nomatter how many people post in them, i could be wrong though and i have seen mercopress close them in the past because of what people were saying in the topic.
