Most Brazilians feel that race and skin colour have great influence in labour relations and in the way they are treated by police and the judiciary, according to a report from the Brazilian Geography and Statistics Institute, IBGE. Read full article

    Just NE Brasil is the combined size of France, Germany, Spain and the UK.
    80% of the NE Brasil population self-identifies as 'Brown(Multiracial)' - a powerfully Black admixture with a majority origin in African slave genes.
    Southern Brasil is, of course, powerfully White.

    Discussing the contemporary employment 'colour' issue with no reference to geographical location and social history is so, so inadequate.

    Geoff, Northeasterners are predominantly European in genetic makeup, though most, as you noticed, identify as mixed-race. Perhaps your perception is being modeled by your living in Bahia. Most other Northeastern states, however, are less African than Bahia.
