This guy was signing deals in London recently and did we feel the need to discuss the Falkalnds? No we didn't, as we are secure in our position that it does not need raising. Every time Argentina raise this it appears they are tryig to convince themselves.

China has appeared to put it's money where it's mouth is. Tells me all we need to know. The drilling continues, bankrolled by a variety of domestic and international stakeholders!

    Ha, ha, ha !

Argentina did this last week when it thanked the Russians for their support even though there was nothing in the agreements that even mentioned the Falklands.

Bet there's nothing in the agreements this time too lol.

Argentina says 'thankyou' to everyone to give an impression of support back home regardless of whether they've actually gotten any.

Think - yes a close run Rugby Match - early days yet for both teams, was never going to be an easy one for England with many of the Pumas having played in the European 6 nations sides having a good knowledge of English styles etc. And in pretty well all Int Sports Eng. has a long history of wobbling at the start and they improving.
China? - When will you guys ever eaccept reality. Nations always give public verbal support to other nations to suit the day and it often means little! China of course is communist - we would never expect them to support “an old european power” in the Un etc - simple fact! But they of course are hard business guys and will continue to do business with Arg- Uk -Falklands - where it suits them. Same as other S.American nations do.

Yes Redhoyt, as I have tried to tell you many times in this forum, it is sovereign and corporate interests that dominate the political arena now , not nationalist sentiment. China is interested only in natural resources as is every other country and multinational. They do not give a fig for the aspirations of the Falklanders.
And neither will the UN general assembly as they are all now the pawns of the new corporate world order.

I am very concerned where our relationship with China will end, with China owning much of our country, including our government. There is too much corruption in the state and our claim over las malvinas / Falklands is based on lies and propaganda. China is worlds leading slave labor economy, has the worlds largest number of political prisoners, is a world leader in the export of organs havested from those same prisoners and is one of the last communist states surviving, although this in name only as they are run by oligarchs who use communism as a system to their advantage.

This is where we are still at today corruption and stagnation - http://www.argentinaindependent.com/currentaffairs/analysis/no-way-out-corruption-in-a-stagnant-democracy-/

It is time to forget childish dreams of far away islands we have never possessed and move towards embracing a greater relationship with our neighbors, instead of constantly threatening them.

Argentina knows this first-hand, and the level of Chinese investment here has gone from millions to billions overnight. a detailed look at the depth of Chinese holdings on and under Argentine soil, today labels the country, along with Brazil as China’s New Investment Frontier.
Total Chinese investment in Argentina was a meager US$13 million in 2004, that figure has grown to US$2.45 billion today, sounds a lot, that’s only 2.45 billion, or under 3 billion, in everything from silver in Salta to motorcycles, . The oil and gas sector probably holds the most potential for both countries also the most heavily taxed, there will be positive changes in 2011, the pivotal presidential election year.time to sell your sole,
Other major Chinese investments in Argentina announced this year include plans to invest US$10 billion in Argentina’s rail network (a move that would accelerate the supply chain of soy and other commodities) this is to speed up delivery to suit china, and China Railway International’s possible participation in building a new BA Subte line. If approved, Eximbank China would finance the US$1.5 billion G-line that’s 1.5 billion, or under 2 billion,

London is the largest foreign-exchange trading centre in the world.
Mr Osborne said that the UK represented an “attractive investment opportunity for Chinese investors .
China and the UK reaffirmed their commitment to the target of doubling trade to 100 billion dollars by 2015. That’s 100BILLION, that is the difference,

Ah but china did back argentina over the Falklands did she not, ????
NO she did not, china today has claims on the south china seas, claims on Taiwan,
    And on Tibet,
Beijing was motivated by regional rivalry and fear that India's growth will overtake China's by 2035. “China is rattled by the emergence of India as a global economic player and a regional military power. So it is trying to raise the ante by saying 'we can cause problems for you',” he said. [YOU want to sell your sole to china,] feel

the fact that some of you cannot find a written document on the internet that specifically states that China has backed up Argentina's claim during this visit doesn't mean anything. The main purpose of the visit was business and as such, that is what's being documented. Yet, the public words from these officials (and in diplomacy in general) are as good as any document. I don't think anyone here would dispute that China does support Argentina's claim and this article is consistent with that position.

And @4 - Argentina does not raise this topic to “convince” themselves. In international law, a continuous, uninterrupted claim is very important; and in the case of the Malvinas, Argentina has not once interrupted its claim since 1833. On the other hand, a prolonged silence in international law equates to conformity and abandonment of any claim.

    part two,,,,

So it is trying to raise the ante by saying 'we can cause problems for you',” he said. [YOU want to sell your sole to china,] feel free, for words is all she will give you, but take your resources she will ??

Argentina and china, as different as chalk and cheese,
Great Britain and India, has as much in common as the latest corner shop,
Good business, good sense, good friends,
If you think that with her important other interests, china would even dream of putting Argentina first, then you are deranged as well as deluded,
If only Argentina concentrated on her own problems,, left the Falkland’s alone, and be friends , then the world is her oyster,
Instead of destroying the very thing think her people love, for the deluded obsessions of the Falkland’s, that is not even hers,

    This is typical Argentine 'diplomacy'.
Some Argentine politician calls a press conference and thanks someone for something they didn't actually say. The person they are thanking isn't actually there and can't agree or disagree.
This is a slight variation on 'Argentine minister tells lies about the Falklands in a public place and we can't do anything about it.'

As for 'tick tock', how long will it be before the Chinese actually own all of Argentina? Is that what we're counting down to?

i would like to thank all the posters (such as #32) who are so concerned about Argentina being “owned” by China.

But it is very difficult to please everyone. Without foreign investment, the country is accused of being “communist” or “populist”. And no country can keep up without depending on some measure with the rest of the world. China is not only investing in Argentina, but in many other countries.

Wasn't the UK “owned” by Germany at some point?

Besides, this government (despite its many flaws) is taking measures to protect and foment local industries and even Argentine “sovereignty” if you like (such as the law restricting foreigners from owning too much land in Argentina which is being proposed in Congress).

So don't you worry. Whilst Europe and the UK continue struggle for economic growth and find themselves dealing with more and more unhappiness on their streets, money is flowing into SA.

And the best part, is that this time (unlike the 90s), the economy is being regulated to a certain extent. So we won't get screwed like we did with the US.

Unfortunately, there was no complaint at all by Argentina between 1849 and 1884, even that was a 'chat' at a party!

Not that it is necessary. Britain had a better title than Argentina before 1833 and perfected in on that return.

You are vile people, cowards, without honour, inferior, you feel happy living and believing in lies, if you are the kind of man who loves Argentina, knowing that lies only will lead this country to failure, once more, then I don't want to know those who hate Argentina. If you love something you want that something to be good, if you loved this country you'd be doing something good for the country instead of spreading more lies. Keep being a nationalist and a patriot who loves Argentina, keep teaching lies! You people are doing everything for this country to become history. You feel like you're winning something, like you're wise and have KNOWLEDGE. When your lies rape you, don't come crying. Can you define and imaginary firm? If I buy shares on a traded market then how can they be imaginary.

Before I take a stake in a company I do this thing called research and make a risk-reward calculation to determine my investment/trading strategy as well as my core holding. Research involves analysis, something the Argie posters on here appear to avoid as if they engaged in some analysis it would be clear to them that they have no credible support from any other nation. Perhaps though they know this but it is just too painful for them to admit it. They would much rather avoid the issue or try to deflect attention from it.

Funny, despite Twitter man thanking China's unequivocal support over the “Malvinas” issue, the Chinese have never:

    A) Actually stated it themselves....
    B) Done anything constructive....
    C) Brought up the matter with the UK.....
    D) Demanded that the UK hand over the Islands period end of etc etc.....

Me thinks twitter is putting words into the Chinese mouths, but who in return are polite enough to offer a 5 line paragraph on the ministry of foreign affairs website, and occasional implication of support with an open to interpretation one liner in the full knowledge that is all they really need to do to appease the puppy dog like crooning of twitter man.......

The Argies are simply trying to convince themselves, evidenced by their inability to even list a single nation that has supported Argentina with actions.

It is quite simple no nation is actually prepared to support Argentina! Argentina has tried to get “supporter” nations to offer more than a “gesture of support” but has failed miserably.

Chuckle Chuckle, the drilling continues. Onward towards production we go!

Chinese Peoples Republic website Bilateral Relations ( Last Update: 2011/08/22) issued the following updated 'Statement of Support', which Sr. Timerman interprets as backing for CFK's stance on TFI:

“The two countries had dynamic cultural and people-to-people exchanges.”

    http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/wjb/zzjg/ldmzs/gjlb/3453/default.htm
    (traced through http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/wjb/zzjg/ldmzs/gjlb/3453/default.htm

There is a substantive position statement, via http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/wjb/zzjg/ldmzs/gjlb/3453/default.htm at:
    http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/wjb/zzjg/ldmzs/gjlb/3453/default.htm (14 July 2010):

“In the three-page joint statement, China reiterated its support for Argentina's sovereignty claim to the Malvinas Islands, and restarting relevant negotiations and seeking a peaceful solution to the issue in accordance with UN resolutions.”

This is as far as the Chinese political class are prepared to go to support Argentina's claim over TFI - 'talk about it peacefully following UN guidelines'.

There must be an (original) digital copy of this 3 page doc. on some Argentinian site - surely somebody can find it!

    ARGENTINA - CHINA

SOME KEYS TO UNDERSTANDING THE HIGH LEVEL MEETING

“..Timerman on Friday met with his peer Yang Jiechi and ...Xi Jinping..”

1- Who is Mr Xi Jinping ?

“...who it tipped to become China’s next president, according to sources in Washington and the main European capitals”
(let me add the most powerfull country now and in the next soon future and the new order world)

    2. Is he important ? What power he has exactly right now ??

Xi Jinping is one of the 9 members of the Politburo in the Chinese Communist Party and Vice President of the highest military organ of the Republic of China..“

3- So ...what´s exactly he said or support in the meeting ??

”The Chinese vice president, who reaffirmed his country's support to the Argentine claim over Malvinas Islands, said that both peoples are united by a long friendship“

4- Friendship ?? what kind of relation China and Argentina has and try to deepen ??

”.. Strategic Partnership, established between the two countries in 2004. This strategic partnership has been the beginning of a new phase of sustained and rapid development of bilateral relations in which intensified the frequent contacts at the highest level, boosting confidence
each other. He also noted the successful visit to China by President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in July 2010 and the broad consensus between the Heads of State in relation to our strategic partnership“

5- so, then the purpose of this high level meeting was ???

”.....the visit is to deepen the friendship between our peoples and emphasized the coordination and cooperation between the two countries
international affairs and especially the role played by China in the world in DEFEND THE INTERESTS OF EMERGING COUNTRIES.”

    so_far.

But what have China done to reinforce their “support” for Argentina? What has Brazil done to reinforce their “support” for Argentina? What has any country done to reinforce their ”support for Argentina?

You will find that no nation has given you actual support. You have no credible support as support needs to have a tangible value.

Now let us look at the other side of the coin. Does the US support the UK and FI? Well the rig is US owned so I would say that qualifies as actual support.

What about Brazil? Well the rig moved to the FI via Brazilian ports and so does other oil equipment to replenish those stocks etc. I guess that is actual Brazilian support.

Hang on a second, the rig is Panama flagged. Looks like another Latin American country supports the UK & FI (tenuous, I know but it is more support than Argentina has managed to get).

Asia? Well the Singaporean gvt are part funding Rockhopper Exploration and hang on a minute, does not China Aviation Oil (a major part of the CIC) operate its business out of Singapore. Have not the RKH BoD been to Singapore as part of the development planning recently?

Hmmmmmmm. I think I would be more content with the support the FI and UK have been getting compared to the worthless verbals that placate those politically immature Argies.

What really matters is to reform the Security Council in the UN ASAP and get out the veto power that UK has today and possibly expel them as permanent members because bad behaviour and example to the world.

....then everything will be so simple for Argentina, which already has the votes of Russia, China, Brazil (next permanent member) and the U.S. to establish mandatory negotiations about Malvinas (binding resolutions)

Argentina is thinking strategically for the next 20 years and the new world order with new leaders.

You are thinking only in the short term ... very basic my friend.

Bennies....be smart, now is really a good moment for negotiations.

so_far. The only time the UN SC has shown any interest in the FI was to tell Argentina to get out. Argentina declined and well you know the rest.

If that is your response then it shows that your argument is superficial and worthless. You clearly have no idea how the SC works as a permanent member is exactly that “permanent”! Impossible to remove a “permanent” member! You are as thick as Marcos.

If you think that Argentina is positioning itself strategically then you need to start taking some of CFK's medication. How many Chinese graduates emerge from Argentina every year and how many emerge from the UK? Now who is the strategic one in that mix. A UK university education, can't think of a better way to influence future Chinese leaders of politics and business!

Argentina has no “actual” support while the FI and the UK have plenty! Yummy £££££££!!!!!

So to get a comment in its favour Argentina supported a communist state over a democratic one, and ignored the democratically expressed wishes of the people of Taiwan.

You really think a piffling £800 Million quid in trade with desperate Argentine businessmen, that are begging to export their wares for real, stable, currency, that isn't devaluing by 25% per annum, like everything in Argentina, makes one iota of difference in relation to our military deployments of Search & Rescue Helicopter Pilots, then you need to take more water with it.

“our las malvinas is based on papal bull of 1493”

@Filippo. So how do you explain your claim to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands? Under that papal bull you mention, they were given to Portugal...

We inherited all claims to these islands by right.

GOD HAS GIVEN IT TO US!

Portugal has no Empire, British is the only colonial left in world with territory claimed outside of national waters.

These islands are closer to Argentina than any other country, therefore by proximity they are Argentine.

We also have a larger population and so without British military, UN, EU, NATO and US, you islands would have no means to defend yourselves and you would all be dispatched!

    No, Briton,
the Joint Declaration was signed by both the Chinese and the Argentinians, so it is an Official Document of Major Importance.

    Frequently cited, but never inspected;
does it speak in platitudes or in substance?

It is surely in Argentina's interests to place its details in the public domain.

This document according to my father is similar to the one signed between Germany and Russia before WW2. So you PIRATES should be worried because you remember what happened to Poland!

I have the Chinese record of the diplomtic meeting (15 July 2010) and exchange of promises between CFK and her Chinese counterpart:
    http://www.china.org.cn/world/2010-07/15/content_20502017.htm

Nowhere, explicitly or implicitly, is there any mention of Chinese support for the Argentinian position on the Falkands issue, or indeed any other land/EEZ ownership issue.

Timerman is exposed as a liar and a charlatan.

    http://www.china.org.cn/world/2010-07/14/content_20493392.htm

this was at the bottom of the next page,
Hu said China would promote dialogue and communications with regional organizations in Latin America in a bid to facilitate China-Latin America relations.
In the three-page joint statement, China reiterated its support for Argentina's sovereignty claim to the Malvinas Islands, and restarting relevant negotiations and seeking a peaceful solution to the issue in accordance with UN resolutions.
Argentina said it would follow the one-China policy and support the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait and China's endeavor for national reunification
