The Salvador Allende Foundation that the remains of former President Salvador Allende were re-interred last Thursday after being exhumed in May for forensic analysis. Read full article
I visited his tomb recently but his remains were absent at the time. Fascinating cemetery to visit. Later that day I visited the house where Pinochet was kept under house arrest - everything left as if he just stepped out of his office for a moment. Twas a day of contrasts.
Some of you may not know that Santiago Times is a foreign weekly edited and published in Chile. Its staff is composed of amateurish editors who know little or nothing about present-day Chile. For Santiago Times editors, Chile's history appears to have stopped in 1973 with Mr. Allende's suicide!
The photograph illustrating this article shows Allende well-surrounded by two GAP (Grupo de Amigos Personales) bodyguards, who with their AK-47s were then much better armed than the Carabineros de Chile, who generally carried only a 5-shot 7mm Mauser carbine, and a six-shot 38sp. revolver.
Incidentally, Mr. Ivan Ebergenyi's rhetoric sounds very much like that of a former Soviet apparatchik. And there should be no doubts about his political leanings!

@4 They do put a short bio of the writer at the end of each article which does help with political orientation.
