    I thought this was a joint project with the US and Russia.

    Russia and the US both have seperate missions quite like this one in different areas of Antartica.

    The russian one is at Lake Vostok mentioned in this article...Can't remember where the US one is. The russians have to stop due to the weather last i heard will start again next year(not 100% on this).
