The US city of Harrisburg - capital of the state of Pennsylvania - has filed for bankruptcy, making it the first state capital to do so. Harrisburg faces debts of 300 million dollars and has struggled to pay for services. Read full article

    Since 1980, only 243 small cities have declared bankruptcy protection. Harrisburg PA began filing for bankruptcy protection this week. In court, the mayor of Harrisburg has filed a request that the bankruptcy be declared illegal. The battle over the filing is sure to continue for at least a couple weeks.
