“We’ve always had support from the British Government before but now it is just so strong” said Falkland Islands Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sharon Halford this week on her return from the United Kingdom Party Conferences.

According to Penguin News MLA Halford attended with MLA Roger Edwards where they manned a stand at each conference, accompanied by Falkland Islands Representative in London Sukey Cameron.

“Because we’ve been attending for so long the Falklands stand is normally very well placed” pointed out MLA Halford.

At the Conservative Conference they were able to catch the eye of most who attended, being placed very near to the entrance.

“There’s a great deal of cross party support, so each conference is as important as the other” she added, “we don’t always remain on the stand but attend fringe meetings and sessions.”

The Falklands lawmakers were able to meet a number of influential politicians including Prime Minister David Cameron and other party leaders and ministers as reported last week in Penguin News.

“It was also amazing how many people who spoke to us who had connections with the Falklands, whether because they had visited on cruise ships or from serving in the forces.”

At one reception MLA Halford discovered herself sitting next to a lady who had enjoyed the Long Island Farm tour during a visit to the Falklands. “After chatting we realised that I had been her guide on the day,” she said.

A young man who passed by the stand displayed to the group his Falkland Islands cufflinks, “they had the old Desire the Right crest,” said MLA Halford, “but he couldn’t remember how he had come by them.

“It’s vital that we get the Falklands message out to as many people as possible,” she said, “The party conferences are a great way to reach the influential ones.” (PN)

@2 Shame for you, eh? There's been an article recently about a book in which it appears that the Argentine ambassador to Peru told the junta numpties how Margaret Thatcher and Britain would respond to an attack on the Falkland Islands. He was right, wasn't he?

Not much has changed since 1982. Argentines are still psychotic brainwashed numpties. Argentina still doesn't dare take its “claim” to the ICJ. Argentina is still full of hot air. Britain will always find a way to wallop Argentina if it goes too far. A couple of things have changed. A lot more Britons know where the Falkland Islands are. A LOT more Britons care what happens on the Falkland Islands and will make sure that NO British government EVER reduces its commitment to the Falkland Islands.

The Falkland Islands will be British until the Falkland Islanders wish otherwise. And, given the actions of a belligerent neighbour, the next stage will be independence, including a defence treaty with Britain.
