Indeed. Angela Merkel has the unenviable nickname of Frau Ditherer. I understand her position. Germans remember all to well when they lived with a worthless currency. They are reluctant to throw all their money in the pot to bail out the other Eurozone failing economies when they diligently saved and developed a strong and thriving economy.

And in capitalist democracy it's ok for one nation to defend itself in a way that seen as appropriate to it's own conditions.just because capital has a problem in Europe doesn't mean the one solution suits each country the same and these 2 individual are responsible to different masters than capital,it's just that they foolishly believe in the capitalist models.to german people are at least represented by a leader who is not seeking to dominate a process that is proving to become deeper by the day

Europe has over a thousand years of divide,
And therefore have many barriers to overcome,

But very soon fate will take a hand, and decisions will and may well be made for them,
My problem is not with Europe, [I want out]
Its just that honestly I don’t trust my own government,
And especially not Cameron, with that little fox terrier biting at his heels,
    Just a thought .

Why do you want out.ok at this time you are not in the currency but you will not benefit by standing alone.as a capitalist country you have to compete in the world, surely you need a home Market larger than the UK.what advantage does standing alone have.

only yesterday is was reported about the embarasment of the irish premmer, who sent to and ask germany to over see their budget for next year, even before he showed it to the irish parlament,
    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
europe wants a one country state run by germany,
you guys are lucky you dont have them,
we need to cut our losses , and go it alone before they rule us compleatly.

We have more in common with Germany than not. They are our biggest trading partner Europe. This is a fine line of negotiation to walk.

The main problem, is that their is a clear defined difference between trade- and coming under ones influence,
No body can deny that if it made in Germany, then it is probably the best,
The world has been trading for thousands of years, and will continue,
but, and a big but,, some people seem to think a united states of Europe is best,, it wont work, it cannot work, it will not work, their are far to many conflicts of interest and national pride,

But alas, politicians have this thing called, [ambition] [making a name]
[Greed] [corruption] [Altered ego] and the biggest is
[don’t tell me what to do,, we [I] know best]
    Just an opinion .

@8 I think every option is being considered. What also has to be considered is that this is a group of democracies and their leaders cannot make bold decisions without reference to their individual parliaments.

@9 I am pretty sure we ship a lot of pharmaceuticals to Germany. We import most goods from Germany and export most goods to the US and Germany, I think. (I am sure someone will correct me).

It is not necessarily true that we won't trade with Europe if we left the EU, but being part of the most protectionist market in the world is probably in our interests.

It does appear that some countries would like to see a United Countries of Europe with one President. I absolutely cannot see how that could work. It is a constant source of admiration that the USofA was so successful.
