Spain’s Conservative daily ABC diplomatic correspondent is predicting the demise of the Tripartite Forum, involving Spain, UK and Gibraltar, under Mariano Rajoy PP government expected to take office in mid December Read full article
So we go from 3 way negotiations and agreements, to self fish 1 way demands for full sovereignty like that of argentina over the falklands. Clear Spains new PM did not hear, when Mr cameron frimly told Argentina that their will be no negotiations of sovereignty so long as the islanders wish to remain british. I expect spain will get the same reply too. Oh and if spain want us to halp bail them out, they can forget - As i do not believe we should be sending money to other countries to bail them out of their debts problems when those countries can not respect the rights of people under the UN Charter, i.e. Self Determination.
teaboy you are so funny living in the nineteenth century. If Spain.wants to bail us out ha ha ha the only reason England isnt in a worse situation than Spain or Italy right NOW is that you have your own money and the printing presses are going 24-7 to keep some little demand up and the markets are distracted by the euro. Geemany you aint. But as Germany and Argentina know when the printing presses are in full flow the consequences come and when they do Gibralter and the Malvinas will be sideshows SURVIVAL will be all u can think about
WTF o'gara, where did i say anything about spain wanting to bail out the UK, I said if spain want us to halp bail them out, they can forget it. Also the printing presses are not going 24/7 we have not yet printed any money since the last load the other month. Plus it is not printed money either its virtual electronic money nowadays. Your right we are not Germany, but then why would we want to be germany when they are in a bigger mess than the UK as a result of them being in the EURO ZONE and the biggest economy in the Euro Zone, France the second Biggest is on the edge, so germany will not be far behind. Well the repercussion have any effect on the UK if the Euro Zone Collaspes, yes it will but it will only be an acute effect. I.e. short term impact on the markets which will bounce back and recover from it.
Only thing you got right was the fact we still have our own currency. And your forgetting something, under the UN charter all people have the right to self determination to choose their government and what nationality they wish to be and what country they are part off, and that applies to gibralter and the falklands, both of which wish to continue to be british. Hell if i wanted to i could buy a some land build a house on it, and then declare the land a independant state free of any country under my rights to self determination, though i have not intention of doing so.
the PP will insist in returning to talk with UK over Gibraltar’s sovereignty on a bilateral basis. Should be a short conversation.
Spanish PP government: We insist on talks about Gibraltar sovereignty solely on a Spanish - UK bilateral basis.
UK government: No!
only idiots believe they can buy land and declare it independent.I and my yanqui friends will take it as the 52nd state.only idiots could believe that Spain depends on UK to get out of financial crisis.without all eu state working together however difficult that is the crisis could only get worse.Only an idiot would believe that there is a difference between printing money, electronic money transfer and the printing of money bills to replace damaged or old bills. But then if some people live in the past it can be expected I think.I wonder what the Spanish name is for gibralter
”♪♫ This is the truth, the only truth about Gibraltar♪♫
The UK did something that can only be considered as an act of pirats (Who would have thought?)... A British admiral took Gibtaltar for the Queen of England... ever since that part of Spain is a UK colony.
The UN declared Gibraltar has a colonial status, therefore it should have already implied its return to Spain. We should never forget Gibraltar is Spanish territory stolen by a British admiral. It`s an international shame”.
The War of the Spanish Succession was finally settled in 1713 by a series of treaties and agreements. Under the Treaty of Utrecht
Various territorial exchanges were agreed, among them the cessation of the town, fortifications and port of Gibraltar (but not its hinterland) to Britain FOR EVER , without any exception or impediment whatsoever. The treaty also stipulated that if Britain was ever to dispose of Gibraltar it would first have to offer the territory to Spain.[68][69]

The PP said in its electoral manifesto that it would seek a return to bilateral talks with the UK over Gibraltar
Britain’s Foreign Minister, William Hague, had not discussed Gibraltar’s sovereignty with Spain.
“Any communication that we have with the Spanish Government about Gibraltar reflects our clear position on sovereignty, which is that the UK will never enter into arrangements under which the people of Gibraltar would pass under the sovereignty of another state against their wishes and, furthermore, the UK will not enter into a process of sovereignty negotiations with which Gibraltar is not content,” he added
ChrisR has stated what he believes are the facts, isn't that wonderful.the case of gibralter and the Malvinas are the same in outcome for the Brits.strange how only the Brits know the truth and everyone else is so horribly wrong?somebody in Spain said the discussion forum on gibraltar might(might)change under the new gvt,why the fuss, who is he?

#9 Gibraltar or, if they wish, how about Falklands 2? Spain has as much chance of getting hold of it as Argentina has of the Falklands.
