A two day Mercosur summit begins Monday in Montevideo with Foreign Affairs ministers meeting Monday and the presidents on Tuesday when the rotating chair will be passed from Uruguay to Argentina for the next six month. Read full article

    As usual Geoffrey your play on words suggests knowledge but the result is a complete lack of substance.Mercosur was never in better shape.Trade bewtween the partners is growing at extremely high levels.Argentina and Brasil will trade 40 billion dollars worth of goods in 2011.Uruguay-Argentina trade has doubled in five years,Paraguay trade with the rest of the block is up 29% in 2011.

    Mercosur has failed totally and spectacularly to trade as a bloc with the world beyond.
    Its partners have broken all its own internal and external trading rules to trade as individual nations, brokering grossly sub-optimal deals because of their rejection of group-strength.
    There are many reasons, and I know you know some of them.
