After statements published by the English newspaper “The Daily Mail,” in which the former head of the Navy, Lord Alan West, said that a nuclear submarine should be sent to the Malvinas Islands, the United Kingdom assured it does not plan to increase the military presence in the Islands. Dec 23rd, 2011 - 08:09 am - Link - Report abuse 0The British are not gearing up for war. They are simply reiterating they will defend the The Falklands if required to. Argentina should be in no doubt.
Well we should be gearing up for war. Don't want to be caught with our knickers down again.!
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 08:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0Loved your descriptions of the corks!
“There was no change in our current position,” he continued.
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 09:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0?? I wonder what that means then? :-)
The English love war the problem the planters have is they cant handle peace
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 10:12 am - Link - Report abuse 0Keep it up Cristina
@2 The British will not let that happen and Argentina doesn't have the capability. You can all sleep safe in the beds.
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 12:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Apparently there are a disproportionate number of 'corks' in Argentina, according to the women there, but I cannot confirm this. : )
Lol anyone with military experience or knowledge of military strategy and planning will know that what the MOD tell the papers and what they are actually planning and considering putting in place are 2 different things. I mean come on, where hardly going to give argentina advance warning of any of our plans and intentions are we. B
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 12:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0esides, anyone that seriously thinks the british will allow argentina to continue its acts of economic and maritime blockade (in other words - Acts of war by argentina) without sending ships are simply blind fools.
What a pity.
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 06:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0then, the 70/80 comments are written in vain at the article of
Former First Sea Lord suggest sending a nuclear sub to protect Malv.
many posters are deceived there. shame on you.
Teaboy2: There is no military build up because there is no military threat. The base on the islands is enough.
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 07:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Sufficient to the task, bearing in mind the level of threat.
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 09:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentinian military dispositions and deployments are assessed week by week, then on a day-by-day / hour-by-hour basis if the threat level increases.
If there is a need to prime the UK public to the increase in response to perceived threat, the politicians and the military will work as one with the media (both in terms of information and disinformation).
Currently there is little need so to do; but, when necessary, it can be done rather quickly these days.
@Zethe
Dec 23rd, 2011 - 10:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Just because there may not be any current military build up, it doesn't mean they are not like i said drawing plans for any possible miliary action. MOD always plans for things in advance of them happening when other nations start to threat, it would simply be foolish for them not too. And i did say they were planning i never said they was any military build up, but don't be surprised if they have put the assets needed on alert.
I know the base on the islands is enough to defend the islands and that argentina has not military capability to take the islands, but that doesn't mean the british government will not act to protect civilian vessels rights of innocent passage. Spain will likely be keen to do the same too.

Dec 24th, 2011 - 12:26 am - Link - Report abuse 0Im not in any way saying that they are [good][bad][outdated][or usles]
But the paper does list the following
Argentina,
Army= 73,000 plus troops
Air-force= 97 super Etendard dassault mirage A-4
And pucara fighters dating back to the 1950s
25 Attack helicopters,
Two C-130 hercules
[5] destroyers [6] frigates and [3] subs [outdated but usable ??
out dated they may be, but to turn ones make may prove fatal.
just a thought .
Teaboy2: There has been for years. The islands can be reinforced with a brigade in under a week. That is the planning. They are not on alert, There is no threat.
Dec 24th, 2011 - 01:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0And no, as much as you would like to think(as i've noticed in these and previous posts) the Uk government will not act to prevent this blockade, because its not a real blockade, it's not an act of war.
they have not yet stopped any british ships,
Dec 24th, 2011 - 01:27 am - Link - Report abuse 0so they cant be that interested .

Dec 26th, 2011 - 06:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No, from the way you are writing, you have all the attributes of an Argie.
The USA did help in '82, but as usual we did the fighting: this was the same as in the Second World War, albeit with help at D-Day and beyond.
I should stay in Argentina if I were you, however, I am GLAD not to be you.
@17FViera,
Dec 26th, 2011 - 09:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0lf you really are American, then thank you for your material & moral help in 1982 & in WW11.
However l doubt that we would be speaking German now.
One thing l do know is that if it hadn't been for us in 1757, you Americans would be speaking French(which would be no bad thing as it's a beautiful language!).♥
l do though, agree with ChrisR, you are an Argentine.
@ Chris Attributes of an Argie? here in Ohio ?
