Falkland Islands: Cancellation of the visit of Cruise Vessel Start Princess
Due to a reported outbreak of norovirus on the cruise vessel Star Princess, following agreed protocols, the Chief Medical Officer took the difficult decision not to allow the vessel to land in the Falkland Islands as scheduled. The vessel had been due to arrive in Stanley at 8am on the 14th January. Read full article

Think/Marcos, actually magor disster incidents are routinely practised here (as in any sensible place) and all are confident one could be handled appropriatley- but its a silly bugger who knowingly goes and invites one to happen!!

Result a few days later Ushuaia hospitals and public health services were swamped by the local folk with bug - its voilent at both ends Think- very unpleasant I believe.
Some times on this site and other sites I see post by a Argentine and for a moment I think there is hope, for the Argentine people, then I see comments by the likes of Think and Marcos Alejandro , and my hope for them turns to pity,

Declaration on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples.
So the UN does not think that being a colony is incompatible with being a country. But the Falklands are not a colony.
Malvinas is not a country nor recognized legally fully for no countries on earth, no continents, no planets, no milky way, no even in the complete Universe.

Sofa. Perhaps you should look up the word “country” in an English dictionary. The Falkland Islands fill all the requirements to be a “country”. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all accepted globally as being countries, just not sovereign states. There's a difference.

It claims to cover the whole ofnthenSouth Atlantic and even reports irrelevant news fromthe islands it insists not to call as all ofnthenregion does: Malvinas. However, it purposedly omitsnto mention the article by Simon Winchester recently published in The Times of the UK. Interesting ommission as the article calls the UK to put and end to this colonial situation, sit down and negotiate a “civilised solution” recognising Argentine sovereignty and the need to take into account and guarantee the islanders' interests and way of life. That is to say UN and hence Argentina's position. This article accompanied an opinion column by Argentine FM on this issue. Mercopress is regrettably too biased to speak mthe truth!

It was Glaxo themeslves who highlighted the irregularities with recruiting patients as soon as they noticed them. It was the two Argetinian doctors who got fined for not adhering to the correct protocols and Glaxo got fined along with them purely because they have to take ultimate responsibility as the company funding the study.
There is nothing whatsoever wrong with the study itself - in fact, it is still carrying on with the full endorsement of the Argentinian authorities. At present, there is no connection whatsoever between the 12 deaths of babies and the use of the vaccine. That said, it is possible that they may find an association in some cases. However, it should not be forgotten that 2 million babies die of pneumonia each year and this more than offsets any slight risk attributable to the vaccine.
So, these fines are mainly for irregular paperwork and nothing to do with the trials being unethical or the vaccine being unsafe.
You wouldn't do this study in the UK or Europe, because babies are at a much lower risk of pneumonia, so there is less need to vaccinate them. Argentina doesn't have the highest risk in the world, but it's higher than all of Europe and North America (and Chile, Bolivia and Peru) and has the infrastructure to make such a study feasible. I imagine that the risk is much higher among the poorer communities in Argentina.

So if Glaxo set a protocol at an argentinian hospital and recruited several doctors working there for experimenting with babies is making sth illegal. Doctors here did their part of illegacy too.

It is truly amazing that the Argentines believe that we were implanted and colonising our home land. Yet not once to they acknoweledge that there very existance is based on colonisation and Murder . These same people even sugest we should accept that our Country belongs to them so my sugestion to all of them given the fact we have been a part of the British empire since 1592 that we as Bona Fida Falkland Islanders must therefore have the same equal right to claim Argentina. after all it was once a colony of Spain and in my books to colonise means to populate by implantation. When the Argentines are ready to get out of Argentina and return the Country to the rightfull indigenous people then maybe we can intergrate with those rightfull people who actually own Argentina. Not many Argentines will agree with this but yet those same people expect us to do the exact same for them.

Hundreds of these trials get carried out in Argentina just like they do in other countries. In fact, only yesterday I wrote a clincial paper describing the results of a recent clincial study that included patients in Argentina. All clincial trials in Argentina have to conform to local national laws and have to be approved by ANMAT and each institution where they get carried out. There's nothing underhand going on - Glaxo have not somehow sneeked in some illegal experiment under the noses of the authorities.
You really don't know what you are talking about. ANMAT are the organisation that approved the study in the first place (as they do with all clincial studies in Argentina) and it was Glaxo who informed them of the irregularities!
