They are really paranoid, at least they have matters other than soaring unemployment to think of, even if surrealistically. Great job Argentina, once again and again!

“as it emerged that the Ministry of Defence has a 'contingency plans' in place enabling troops to be deployed swiftly in an emergency to the Malvinas via Ascension Island.”

As it emerged? It's been public knowledge for years.

There is NO threat from argentina as they lack the BALLS to try anything other than Ranting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Falklands will remain a British Overseas Territory for as long as the Falklanders want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Long Live the Falklands.

Aside from the obvious points about the Daily Wail, it should be fairly self-explanatory from their job title: Military planners are paid to produce military plans. The percieved improbability of the plans actually making it as far as reality is not an issue.

I do love the whole “as it emerged” bit, which is journalist-speak for “it was never really a secret, or even vaguely covert, however we've only just noticed”.

@7 LOL@ your remark about the DM journalists. Too busy writing headlines like 'Immigrants are giving you cancer'.

As for the story, it makes perfect sense to look at all possibilities rather than wait until something happens and run around like headless chickens as CFK's government is inclined to do.

First of all Argentina would have to get some fishermen with the balls or enough stupidity (probably the latter) to go to the Falklands (there are no Malvinas) and attempt to plant the flag.

How many Brits here think that at all likely, even the stupid ones must know that if things get out of hand they are unlikely to get back home?

It would not take the police or the army to get rid of the problem. The Falklands have many great rifle shots who are MORE thank capable of topping the invaders. One of them at Bisley one year told me he started rifle shooting by head-shooting geese for food with a 0.22rf rifle- he was a damn good rifle full-bore rifle shot.

well argentina tried something like this as a pretext to invade the Falklands last time, and used the british response to launch their war

since argentina has become certifiably more idiotic in it's foreign policy since then, trying to pull a stunt like this seems fully in line with CFK's delusions.

i just hope argentines wont get too weepy when the idiots who volunteer are mowed down like any other invaders.

in short, while the daily mail is just trying to do it's usual fear mongering thing, just remember that the argentine government is more than stupid enough to try something like this.

10 Braedon Thanks for that. Of course I was overlooking -
THE BASIC LAWS OF HUMAN STUPIDITY by Carlo M. Cipolla

    1) Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

    2) A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

    3) The probability that a certain person be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

    4) Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places and under any circumstances to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

    5) Through centuries and millennia, in public as in private life, countless individuals have failed to take account of the Fourth Basic Law and the failure has caused mankind incalculable losses.

    6) A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person. The corollary of the Law is that: a stupid person is more dangerous than a bandit.

I wonder which country I am thinking about?

Stupid and ignorant , I may add is a lethal combination. To accuse the “Country” of the policies of an existing government is not fair , 46% of the population don't think like the K's Chris. Just for the record :-)

Thank you for that: as I have proved before only 36.6% of the eligible vote voted for CFK so 63.4% did not, some of course may have the same 'politics'.

My next door family are Argentino and they are great. :o)
