British ambassador in Chile Jon Benjamin said that if Lan flights to the Falkland Islands from Chile are suspended this can only be interpreted as an “economic blockade” of the Islands and strongly suggested that the administration of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez is trumpeting the Malvinas card pushed by “domestic interests”. “if Lan weekly flight to Falklands from Chile with a monthly call at Rio Gallegos, are suspended this can only be interpreted as an economic blockade of the Islands, against the people of the Islands, which we believe is contrary to international law”
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 11:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0Since when cutting an airline service is against the law?
They could flight by using Kelpertani Airline or CaMerum’s charters from affen main land.
I cannot see what is the problem money perhaps? Aren't they so rich after all?

Just a few little problems maybe?
If Argentina finally decides to ban LAN flights to the Flaklands over Argentine airspace I'm pretty possitive that Uruguayan carriers will find a way to reconnect the islans to the world. But then, I don't think Argentina's big-heads will ever come to make this stupid step, which would only earn them international despise.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 02:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@11 There's nothing against the law about it. But it'll be difficult for the flag-shrouded argfags to see their war dead, so the war dead will have to be repatriated to argfagland as a result of this.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 02:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0DanBurger 11 - Your have not got the facts.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 02:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The Weekly Lan flight fron Chile to Falklands IS Profitable to Lan.Therefore the only reason they would stop it is if:
a)Argentina screws them with financial blackmail through their affiliate operation in Argentina.
b) Argentina directly withdraws and refuses the airspace overflight - this would be a breach of IATA codes of practice and get Arg into a lot of trouble internationally.
Indications are that Arg has possibly already initially tried option a - but got a negative response back from Lan - so if they want to then they will have to bribe and threaten a LOT more. If Lan were so minded - they are now the major player in LATAM- the world,s 2nd biggest airline group - they could make life impossible for Argentine Airlines in Chile and Brazil - so maybe that possibility is also something CFK may have to think about before she tries her bullyboy threats.
Either way - if the link did go the real loosers would be Argentina and Chile - not us Islanders.
@ Islander1
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 04:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well to be honest I think that the flights will be cut if Britain persist with her refusal about to talk with Argentina.
And if the real losers “would be Argentina and Chile - not us Islanders.” as you say why such noise about it?
Sure you will have flights from British Airways before turns to Pakistan Airways.
Lan Chile doesn’t have kebabs on their menu.
@16 Probably better to fly everything including cargo from South Africa. South African Airways would probably jump at the chance, and it would give the islanders somewhere nice to go. Have a look at some rhinos. Shouldn't be too pricey and they get fresh fruit and other cargo from there instead of through ArgentinaChileUruguay. Then one has less to do with Latin America which is quite good.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 05:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You appear to be quite the racist and have a problem with people of Pakistani origin living in the UK. Is this because you have no heritage and instead leech onto Argentina to give you some kind of culture?

@18 I don't typically eat kebab meat because I'm not actually convinced it's actually meat. It appears to be a large rotating mass of pure brown, which although palatable to some, every part of my body says do not eat.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 07:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'm sure some people like Kebabs, just like some people here eat at argentinian grills. Many immigrants bring their food for us all to enjoy, so i guess it's logical to enjoy it.

I cannot see you in a kebab party like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ddFiYIY_LY or may be...Am I wrong?
Surely you will prefer Garlic bread with cheese on it fish & chips and a good bottle of wine.
Are you not tired of going for the streets of UK with your head down like if you are a foreigner in your own country?
Are you not tired to be second best changes when applying for a job because some ethnic groups have preference over you. Are you not tired of being the idiot that support the govt. and pay taxes while a Paki have 5 houses on housing benefit and live like a sultan renting rooms.
Can you be such an idiot? with all due respect of course.
@20 There is a reason why my country will always succeed and yours will fail. It's about adaptation. My country thrives on its diversity. Anglo-saxons are by definition a mongrel race, we are Norman, we are Celt, we are unpure and we adapt. Now we have African and South Asians joining, and Polish and Chinese. We assimilate with these races because it fundamentally makes us a stronger people, and they update our culture. We support free trade which helps our economy to adapt through the creation of new markets and reduces efficiencies, and although we support small government we were one of the first nations to develop a social system. Our infrastructure is impressive, and so is our education system. We're not perfect, but we are highly adaptable.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 09:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Your country killed all of it's indigenous population, removing the adaptive benefits. You are genetically Spanish, Ex-mussolini Italians and groups of ODESSA Nazi germans. These groups rarely talk and infighting is common as they try to get control. You all share one static political ideology from another time. This ideology supports aggressive expansionism, social justice, nationalism, protectionism. Your people and your society are an anachronism from another age, you're not adaptable, it is all veiled in lies and inevitably social decline will destroy you all. You simply cannot adapt.
So, yes, we do have some Pakistanis in the UK, and yes some cannot integrate, but they cannot adapt, and will suffer social failure. That's their choice. However, I really think you need to put your own house in order with its master race and aged ideology. You're the one preparing for a massive fall.
Just beacuse LAN is a big company it doesn't mean they can provoke the argentine government. CFK, if she wants, could tell them choose! Kelpers or us. Not a difficult decision to take! NK told Maersk shipping company to choose and they choosed. Remember the failed joint-venture with SAAS? Now is time for Hamburg Süd shipping.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 09:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Government knows kelpers have triangulated operations through a ghost company in Punta Arenas called Delta Marine Services.
Surely that's the main issue for this embassador in Chile and his recent trip to th south of the country. :-)
@22 you spend too much time trying to annoy the Islanders and not enough time trying to sort out your own country.
Feb 22nd, 2012 - 10:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0After a short time the Falklanders will adapt and everything will be fine again. They probably have a new chicken farm to give them eggs and new links with commonwealth Caribbean countries to give them bananas. The more you push, the more they adapt.

What infrastructure mate? Last time I was there UK seemed a third world country.
Anyway what do you mean by saying “first nations to develop a social system” do you mean welfare state? And when was that?
Have you ever heard about Sozialstaat? 1870 Germany Sozialpolitiker Bismarck's conservative reforms.
“we do have some Pakistanis in the UK”
Some? Are you sure? How long have you been without getting out side your room? Come on do it. Take some courage and get out for a while and walk for the streets of any major UK city. BTW be careful with knifes in some places.

Feb 23rd, 2012 - 06:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0Our country is far from perfect and we still have people who live in relative poverty, we all complain about the services we we have. However, at least we have properly organised services.
The uk does'nt have massive slums and moldering shanty towns around most of its major cities like Argentina.
BA alone has around 690000 people living in the villas miseria around it. That is REAL poverty and is hardly a good situaion for Argentina to be in, thats more like 3rd world to the average UK citizen.
Add to that corruption, crime rates and the instability that British people (rightly or wrongly) associate with Argentine politics and you might get an idea of why the Falklanders want nothing to do with you.
You're trying to pressurise them into associating themselves with a poorer country that can't get its act together.
@24, 25 Fake-german, it seems you're projecting your views about Argentina onto the UK. Remember that a third of B.A. is slumland and people living in poverty. The most that poor people in the UK have to suffer is eating chips and chicken kiev for dinner every night. That's hardly third-world.
Feb 23rd, 2012 - 11:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0You really seem to have a problem with the immigrant population of the UK, like it's some deep hatred you have for non-Aryans. I know mummy and daddy probably told you about when you fled from Germany to Argentina after the war and your daddy put on his uniform to show you, but no need to push this onto the people of the UK. We helped save europe from people like your parents, and kicked them into exile in Argentina, where apparently you have spawned.

@27 You're hardly going to get a good statement about the UK from a Catholic Priest. Especially not a German one. I'm not suggesting that the aide of the current of catholic-god's representative on earth was in the Hitler Youth, but the current Pope was. In addition, it's not like they didn't have to spend ages clearing up allegations of pederasty in mainly catholic countries..... and the Vatican support for the escaping Nazis after WW2.
Feb 23rd, 2012 - 07:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Henry the VIII did a good thing, so don't expect the Catholics to say anything nice about the UK. Anyways, don't you have a withered dead man's arm to worship?

I only feel sorry for the poor arguments of the inhabitants of the Falklands for JOINING only wealth that belongs to Argentina. Hopefully the law will prevail not only the strongest will prevail but also history, geographical reasons and international law only reason to give the Argentine claim. And the ground made the bogus self-determination. (this right is only when you're a native, is not the case invaded the islands in 1833 and the English settlers brought)

Argentina is impotent and cannot do anything about it. You can make whatever comparisons you want Danny-boy but this is a thread about the Falklands and Argentina doesn't have them and we do. This is not a dick size competition or anything else. This is about the Falkland Islands and Argentina continues to lose now and in the future.

2- There is nothing on there and nothing can only be comparable with nothing I guess.
3- You cannot afford to have an air line, you cannot afford to have you own Army, your GDP is like one of Private neigbourhood of Buenos Aires and I’m being kind because if I compare you with a PN in USA you will look even poor. If you would be a province or Argentina, will be considered the poorest one 120m GDP is a joke.

In 1945 RAF bomber crews dropped food for the Dutch, don't believe me, then ask the aged Lutfwaffe pilots living in your country who could not even get off the ground to shoot them down. In 1948 the same RAF pilots took part in the Berlin airlift. If you want to play silly buggers then the RAF has squadrons of C130 Hercules aircraft, very experienced in supplying humanitarian aid to all parts of the world. Go ahead blockade the Falklands. Those C130 crews will show you just what they are capable of, probably jump at the chance to show you their expertise. If you try to interfere I'm sure an RAF fighter pilots would also like to show you what they can do with a Typhoon. So no more talk of blockades, because you will only wind up with egg on your face again.
