I used to take the Economist for amny years until I realised that virtually everthing they predicted was wrong.

They are right here though about the malignant for of Argentina on the country.

It has been the case for two years that beef exports, despite the higher prices reached, sold out by a significant margin.

Uruguay realise the significant problems with Mercosur more than any other LatAm country and I believe that before long changes will have to be made or the whole scheme will fail.

Given the poor state of the USD I am not at all convinced that the pesos is overvalued, just the opposite.

Argentina is a good economy if you are betting against it :). It usually goes off a cliff every 10-15 years so here is betting it won't be long before they are rioting in the streets again. Uruguay is showing you how it is done. Repaying its debt and actually acting responsibly on the world stage.

Uruguay exports outside of Mercosur are mostly agrocentric. Unfortunately the beef exports dropped because of a lack of breeding animals. This is being addressed.

It would be very interesting to learn what YOU think is the answer to your own question.
