A fire broke out at Brazil's research station in Antarctica on Saturday, killing two navy personnel and forcing the evacuation by helicopter of about 40 other people, the government said. Read full article
Strange that they only now mention that they had a barge laden with diesel sink over 2 months ago.... guess they were hoping no one would ever need to know of yet another brazilian oil spill.....
I thought there were rules about reporting that sort of incident..
Wasn't it that the Brits accounted for like 50% of Antarctic population and manpower?? (according to many here). Which is one of their argumentative plinths for claiming the Antarctic as British territory) lol.
Once again they were brilliantly absent from the call to succor. It seems to me it's always Argentina somehow involved in such rescues (or the USA when it's in the South Pole station).
I'm only pointing this out because it further proofs Argentina has one of the largest populations in the region, and the most active permanent population. Self-determination for the Antarctic Peninsula now!
No acts or activities taking place while the present Treaty is in force shall constitute a basis for asserting, supporting or denying a claim to territorial sovereignty in Antarctica or create any rights of sovereignty in Antarctica. No new claim, or enlargement of an existing claim, to territorial sovereignty in Antarctica shall be asserted while the present Treaty is in force.
Well done Saphira...
@5 Once again an Argentinian shows how blinkered and stupid the RGs are as a tribe. Maybe Tobias can explain why the Brasilians hadn't mentioned the loss of the fuel barge earlier?
@6 We can always burn that treaty up. What are you going to do? Bomb Argentina over it? I'm sure world opinion will clap and aprove when people in Antarctica who want to be part of Argentina are either killed or kicked out on live tv (this is not the 1800s like with the Falklands where both sides can toss their stupid history till the end of days).
I have always said Argentina should forget the Falklands, renounce the claim, and then focus on the Antarctic Peninsula. Populated with 10k and then ask for a referendum. A technical treaty will never trample on the rights of people for self-determination.
@5 HHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA *point point* So very very wrong *prod prod*.
@10 bitter-bitter man response, with complete disregard for the things you signed (1850s Agreement to Settle all Differences). But that's all we expect from you Argies, and your ODESSA political caste grabbing for lebensraum in the antarctic.
