Shame they couldn't of found a role for Sean Penn playing the crazy dictator although I suspect nobody would of realised he was acting....

Madonna played Evita, so it's only fair that she comes back for Evita: The Return and plays Christina.

We need to think of a title theme tune that would suit CFK and be as inspirational as Don't Cry For Me Argentina.

I nominate “She's Not There” by The Zombies.

@9 She does and that is the main theme of the film. I saw her in a restaurant a few years back and she looked very frail.

@8 - Shes more french that argentinian after she moved to france age 3 to escape the dirty war, and grew up in france, having many successful French TV roles in the 1990's and her break through role in america in “A knights tale” 2001 - Shes not been back to argentina since she left accept for brief visits. I doubt she considers herself argentinan either, therefore neither should you consider her as such.

@ I do not deny that marcus - But she moved to france at aged 3 years old. She grew up in france she supported Lionel Jospin's 2002 presidential campaign (evidence she sees herself as french and not argentinian). Just because she was born there (BA) it does not make her argentinian and i doubt she considers herself as argentinian either. Plus her mother was french.

Her visits have only been brief just to see family, she has not lived in argentina since she was 3, so such visits don't make her argentinian either unless all the tourist automatically become argentinian for visiting your country. Her only connection to your country that she herself knows off is through her father only. By the way posting videos of her speaking spabish doesn't mean shes argentian either, just that she knows spanish and likely learnt it from her father. Also in the second video she states “i was born in argentina but i grew up in france” when asked wgere she was from therefore implying she is french but only acknowledging she was born in argentina. If she saw herself as argentian sge would have said she grew up in france but was from argentina, but she didn't.

@14 She's just a french lady, that you're desperate to make Argentinian. But we don't mind watching you do that, as it's quite interesting to see what techniques you use to basically persuade yourself. The rest of us all know she's french.

@14 I refer you to post #15 by greekYogurt.

Its amazing how desperate you are to claim her as argentinian when she herself acknowledges she is from france, grew up in france and is politically active in france, not argentina. She only acknowledged that she was born in BA, but being born there does not make her argentinian, she is french as thats where she grew up and she considers herself as a french citizen and national - Hence why she is politically active in france and not argentina.

How on earth you can say i am jealous because shes not british, when i fully support her own consideration that she is French, when it is you trying to claim her as being argentine like yourself - Which makes you a bonefide Hypocrite. As it is you that is jealous by wishing for her to be argentinian like yourself, it is not i wishing for her to be from britain.

Heres a question for you marcos - If your were born in britian had a british father and argentinian mother and only moved to argentina at the age of 3. Would you call yourself British? As your basically saying because she was born in BA and moved to france aged 3 that she is argentinian regardless, just because she was born there and had an argentinian father and french mother - Which, by the way, would mean your answer to my above question could only be “YES you would call yourself British” if you went by your own logic..

What can bothers you from what nationality is Berenice Bejo??
She has said she is franco-argentina in an interview, so????She has two nationalities and she told the press that here she has family and friends. So???
She didnt win an Oscar, why do you care???
And about Meryl Streep, she didnt mention Margaret Thatcher, not even for the person or for her job or reinvidicated her as a Faaaalkland hero when thanking the prize.

Meryl Streep looks like a typical ugly brit with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, or Mad Cow Disease.

Anway, she just won because she's Meryl Streep. You can deny it all you want, but that's how lame Hollywood is. Lame like ugly brits.

@17 The fact macus was claiming her as argentine, when she made it clear she was from france and only acknowledged being born in BA - she did not say she was french - argentinian either. And her political activity in france makes it clear she is french not argentine. So marcos claim she is argentine is yet another example of an argentine trying to claim something or someone as their own.

@fido - Brits ugly? Funny i don't see any argentines in top 10 sexiest/beautiful male/female in the world for a few years now - Plenty of brits. Just compare beckam to tevez and you will see the difference.

19 Coffeboy, Obviously you can not understand spanish nor understand her beautiful Argentinean accent.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQLD6rqpUUo

    Once she said:
Bérénice Bejo: «Soy una argentina para quien la familia es fundamental. Y como hispana criada en Francia, soy un bicho raro»

Translate more and less to this
Bérénice Bejo “I am an Argentinean for whom the family is essential. And as Hispanic raised in France, I'm a weirdo ”

Marcus Marcus Marcus - You will hear the Interviewer put the word argentinean in to her mouth before she says it. Also she does not say what you said at all. As for argentinian accent, errr you mean spanish after all shes talking spanish, and if you see any of her films you will notice she speaks french and has a french accent.

If she was truelly argentinian Marcus then why is she living in france, and politically active in france, which is evidence she sees france as her home nation and herself as french not argentinian. She only acknowledges that she was born in argentina and her farther was argentine and that she has family there in argentina nothing more - In fact here it is in her very own words - “Bejo says. “It’s better that we’re French, not American… ” that was taken from an interview during the oscars itself - http://voxxi.com/2012/02/26/berenice-bejo-whos-that-girl-film/ - Now she can be more clear then that. “we are french” means she considers herself and her co star etc as french.

I'm busy watching these comments, it's quite fun.

Meryl Streep said she's got British ancestry, but we don't need to try to steal her because she's quite happy being american, and we're quite happy with her being american. Everyone is happy.

This french lady, who said she's got Argentinian ancestry, those Argies do need her to to Argentinian, even though she's happy being french, and they're not happy with her being french. No one is happy (Argentinians are never happy).

Cultural differences are so interesting, and hilarious.

Do the islanders really consider her as a “hero”, as the subtitle says?

    Feb 28th, 2012 - 01:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0
  • GreekYoghurt

@25 well in Argentina she wouldn't be considered a hero because she actually won something. Not like the Argentine Falklands War veterans who were so crap that history has changed suddenly to make them all children with weapons (heroes), The Belgrano that sank in the worlds sh!ttest example of naval strategy (heroes) and the Gaucho Rivera who didn't do a lot and got chucked off the islands (Hero).

Argentinia is apparently where failure gets ultimate rewards.

It's just that the subtitle reeks of the same populism you people criticize in argentinians. In any case their heroes should be the murderous argentinian dictators since thanks to them they've become vip citizens.

@27 She's William Hague's heroine, if that answers your question.

@27 Fantasma - Thats because she was leader of Britian at the time when we won the falklands war under her leadership, that make her a hero in regards the falklands war victory. So know its not the same criticism as we won, argentina on the other hand makes heros out of people that were not heros at all and that actually lost the war, or were murderers such as Gaucho Rivera.

@29 And what does that have to do with anything? I was wondering whether people really looked up to her as a hero since she is a controversial figure, for example for all the inequality and impoverishment her government caused.

@30 Its got everything to do with it. If it wasn't for her the islands would never have been taken back. So yes she is a hero to those that support the islanders right to be british and not have sovereignty of a nation they do not wish to be part off forced upon them. As for inquality, thats bullshit she fought that all her career, she was the first female PM, and impoverishment, thats bullshit too, yes we had strikes, but hell we have them nearly every year for one thing or another, but the country flourished under her and continued to do so until 10 years after leabour mismangement and poor spending. So your points are mute.

Surely KFC and the plastic RGs would see the Oscar for Meryl Streep as an “act of provocation”?
Rather than Sean Penn's views about the islands, what about Ms. Streep's views on the Falklands? She surely would have an neutral insight after such close involvement with the character and the issues at hand.
Maybe FIG should invite her for a visit.
