Another British cruise vessel had to cancel its visit to a South American port, this time in Chile but not because of political disputes with the UK, but rather as a direct consequence of local protests against the national government. Read full article

I don't think the ship had a choice in whether a port call was made or not.....

Better just sit in the jacuzzi on top and watch the riots with a glass of 1986 Château Lafite Rothschild.

Watching plebs complaining about stuff is always joyous.

Your british foreign office minister should also say he feels sad and frustated.
and according to what I remember, FI have dennied access to its ports to another cruise for “health reasons”, very discussable (few ill people on board for not being allowed)

@4 That's because there was an outbreak of a disease on board and they sought guidance from London and were told to deny them access on those grounds. It lost the FIslands a lot of money too. But their main health centre is tiny and unable to deal with a major outbreak of pestilence.

It wasn't sheer pettiness, like in this case.

@4 Have just spotted the very same cruise vessel coming into port a few moments ago, I guess they must all be in good health, there are no protests on the dock and our government hasn't turned it away because its been to South America first. Welcome to the Falklands :-)

You must be on drugs, these people just want not to be forgotten, like they think they have been in the past. Currently the Government is upgrading and paving the road, the inhabitants are demnding a university and it looks like they will get it. They want better health care, so the hospital will get upgraded. Most importantly the farmers want to be able to clear more forest so they can improve their farms productivity. This may not go their way as there is huge pressure on the administration to keep this area pristine. In a nutshell, people are voicing their concerns (rather loudly), and they are being heard. That's what happens in Chile, citizens don't take any crap, they are very vocal activists. This is a very good thing (even if I don't agree with many of their positions) as the results speak for themselves, they get things done!
