I am sure that I have seen the smiling sun part of the Argie flag somewhere before.
Ah yes; it is the opening shot of the Teletubbies.

I assume it's dawned on her that the only people that would care would be the Argentine athletes.

Is she not concerned that these high flying flags might go up in flames after the example set in Buenos Aires?

The daft thing is that I'm sure that Argentines would be terribly upset if that happened which is why they do it to the union flag - assuming it would have the same impact - but it doesn't. Brits view third world rioters burning flags with little more than an eye roll.

Argentine athletes will be welcomed - but if they try to turn it into a political protest they'll probably just be laughed at.

Another reason to avoid London and the South East this summer. I hope they enjoy what will be the worlds biggest car park, the M25.

If the true cost of these games is £9 Billion (as the upper limit) we could have used the money to buy the other 6 Type 45 destroyers desperately needed by the Navy, with over £2 Billion in cash left over spare to fully arm the whole class.

I usually like the Olympics, but have no interest in this one.

Typical Labour waste of money on trivia.

So there was a suggestion that Argentina would refuse to send some of its athletes to the olympics? I bet that would have been popular with the nation's athletes.

I see that the proposal of wearing a badge claiming Argentine soverignty over the FI has all gone quiet.

When are you bunch actually going to carry out your threats?

They will be welcome in the UK as long as they do not attempt some childish publicity stunt. If they do then they should be sent home.

As it stands the UK is a democratic and respectful nation that will offer Argentine Olympiads no problems.

Let's just welcome the Argentinians with open arms. I'm sick of their pettiness and it's better just to rise above it. No point ruining a nice event at their expense.

Did she mention UNSCR 502 which they ignored?

Argentina won 6 medals at the last Olympics, Great Britain won 47...yeah, Argentina would really be missed if they didn't turn up... the main point though is that the Olympics are supposed to be non-political, so if Argentina did stay away for these reasons, they'd be breaking the Olympic spirit. We should send the Olympic delegates to visit Buenos Aires on a GB registered ship, then see them try and send them away.

Poor people these nationalistic argentine pr*cks, Olympics are about sports, not politics or wars. These people should not be allowed to stay in England, after all is the land of the pirates, isn't it? That's what they're always saying.

I was wondering if we would miss the Argentine contribution to the games; I think not. But some Argentines have been training for years to take part and they should be allowed that honour.
CFKC may be on better medication by time the games start and she may stop making a fool of herself and her country.

I think they're coming, and they're going to pretend people in the UK really care or know what 'Las Malvinas' is (no one knows). They'll probably have to denigrate themselves by calling them 'the falklands' and saying “THE FALKLANDS ARE ARGENTINIAN” to which your average british (pleb) person would say “didn't madonna win the world cup with their fist?”...

... then they'd get upset because their Malvinas chat was full of fail.

@46 I've personally spent my whole life taking everything that 1970s rock guitarists say as the truth, and not just some cheap attempt at advertising their wares. When Donovan said “I came to the point where I saw that mountains are not mountains, and rivers are not rivers. But now that I have got its very substance I am at rest. For it's just that I see mountains once again as mountains, and rivers once again as rivers”. I knew that was the truth.

Once again a topic abt Argentina, and the rats abandon ship, [still] the gutters not far away,
They will be most welcome in the UK , but to be fair, if this blows, then I would not fancy your chances getting accommodation in London,
, but its all abt competition is it not,
As long as they take part, that is all that counts,
They might even win a few ice creams,
But to bring politics into sport is beyond idiocy, but then CFK is all ready making it into a victory,
And people wonder why they get treated to the way they, do.

barilox, No hemos leído ni los mismos libros, ni hemos estudiado en la misma escuela ni hemos estudiado la misma historia. Comparto con vos: No puedo creer que seas argentino. Inconcientemente decís “the British will give you the islands?”

barilox, We have not even read the same books, or have studied in the same school or have studied the same history. I share with you the follow: I can not believe you are Argentinian. Unconsciously you said “...the British will give you the islands?” Barilox No, if you have citizenship in Argentina, they would return it to you too. But again, I doubt you are Argentine. No one is Argentine just only taking its citizenship. The true Argentine loves deeply his homeland as the true Englishman loves his (their homeland not its colonial enclaves, of course).

25th Infantry Regiment, 5th Naval Infantry Battalion, 601 Commando Company, 602 Commando Company, Amphibious Commandos Group,.

This is just a short list of some of the Argentine units that fought in the 1982 war. Yes some of them were conscripts they were never “without any military instruction, proper clothing or food” plus the Argentinians has man power superiority of roughly 3 to 1. The reason I mention this is because she is almost implying that the UK only won because of things like this. Which is not the case. I put it down to Argentine cowardice. Follow my logic a second.

    1. I have bee in the British army and we work in a 3-1 ratio and have done for a long time. The term means you use three times the amount of projective power to take a defensive position. Which in the case it was the other way round and the argentians had a 3-1 favour and being the defending troops.

Put it simply, hell of alot of troops surrended to the UK because they did not have the stomach for it.
Is she now implying the RG military is no longer like what she thinks it used to be? and pose a possible to the UK? I don't know.

I do know that if they did not have the balls to fight back then they won't know. Not even taken into the fact they had advantage of the number game the US also thought it would be almost impossible for the UK to take back the islands.

Sorry RG's. Think of being cowardly as being a survivalist rather than an undeignified human trait.

Usually I write impartially and with out insult but I thought this was needed.

    @37 Synchronised kukri-slashing. I like it!

But let's be serious. How are argies going to hold their dishrag high? I wasn't aware of the Olympic sport of stilt-walking! Or individual ballooning. Just so long as these argie athletes travel by train!

”We honour each and all of those teenagers that went to the Islands without any military instruction, proper clothing or food to the ultimate sacrifice”, underlined Cristina Fernandez. How funny. They already made the ultimate sacrifice. Over 193 countries and they had to get born in argieland. Who decided to send “teenage” cannon fodder to someone else's country? Who decided to cut costs and not bother with instruction, clothes or food? Who thought argies were bullet-proof? Who are responsible? 40 million argies is who.

I said at #16 “I think Argentina's application to attend might be withdrawn unless TFI blockade is removed.”
but now I prefer the gentler option posted by others here - any attempt at politicising whilst the Games are on should be met with typically British humour and gentle ridicule. It is a great opportunity to show the superior behavioural 'high ground'.
