The British government has said it is a source of ”sadness and frustrated” that Argentina decided to turn away British tourists wishing to visit Argentina as a result of the ongoing row over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. Read full article
Roger Waters wants to sell some tickets to his tour in Argentina and these oddball 'useful idiots' with a counterview can always be found.
My experience with these older pop and rock singers is that 90% of the time they are stoned out of their brains as it is the only thing which sees them through the tedium of tours.
Argentina is acting like Australia in the 1960s asking visiting celebrities what they think of the place;here it is 'whose are the Malvinas?
A sure sign of immaturity and lack of confidence.
@ 1 Who is Roger Waters? A bassist, probably on cocaine or alcohol.
Malvinas are Argentine, Falklands are British, and everybody's happy :) You are so full of sh*t that you feel happy because a ship with tourists wasn't allowed to visit our country, and you enjoy it as if it were a victory. You should have greater expectations in life, don't be selfish ;) Y qué hacés vos kirchnerista, anti-imperialista, antí-capitalista, posteando artículos de Clarín, ¿ahora está enamorado de Magnetto? Ustedes los kirchneristas son tan hipócritas, es de no creer.
mr Jeremy Browne
first return to Argentina the malvinas Islands and then we can be a friendship, Second: since 1965 we are waiting for us to return the Malvinas!
@6 I don't think they need Jeremy Browne telling them the obvious. I doubt any Cruise operator is keen for Argentina based 'turned-away fun' at the moment. Better just go to Chile and watch the strikes.

whatever peoples view on Roger Waters ! He is a great musician and by all accounts a clever man ! Do you really think he would leave River Plate stadium alive shouting FALKLANDS ARE BRITISH hardly ! plus he guaranteed a return tour ! very clever ! All you people getting excited because a British man so called supported your views, don't be so naive !
It's about time HMG realised that Argentina is no friend of ours. Those people mean us harm. They are our enemies and should be treated as such. Hold at arms length and do not show any weakness.
@18 The people in the Falklands and the UK don't believe in your respect and guarantees.
@11 Argentina has plenty of practice stealing land itself, you tried stealing the Falklands in 1982 and the 1820s/30s.
The people of the Falklands are British and the Falklands are British. The Malvinas is something inside the head of the Malvinistas only.
How long before the current decision affecting cruise ships gets reviewed, just like the decision affecting cargo ships up north? I'll be interested to see what happens if the Argie officials try to stop a passenger ship intending to do a pax exchange. Ha ha, it will never happen.
Let's face facts. No one respects the Argentinians because let's face it, they don't respect themselves. Just demanding that countries give them islands based upon 'we just want it' or retconed history is hardly going to earn it. They have no idea about economy, by the childlike politicisation of everything, rather than just taking the money. To be fair they seem to annoy the americans more than they do the British, because of their ignorance of who owns what.
@24 what about that Raul chap who just spams the board with the same copypasta over and over and over regardless of the topic or how many times it's been discredit? He's my personal favourite.
@26 With a bit of investment there is scope for turning Stanley into the answer to every shipping company's prayers. Some kind of stable place for them all to start their cruises from without having curious locals shouting at you like in Argland.
Notice how once again the British gentlemen sense of fair play comes into the reckoning,
No matter what you do, what you say, how you say it,
The British are more concern with your well being, than the insults you throw out,
But to be fair to you silly Argies, its not your fault, indoctrination is a bugger, is it not,
But we must remain you, there are two British governments, ,responses,
Are you not lucky to be presented with the polite and caring British government,
Keep pushing, and you may well se the bad side of the British government,
There is always a hawk, ready and waiting to take over the reins,
Lucky Argies, to have such a polite, so called enemy,
Now run along and mind how you go, we wouldn’t want any of you to fall over, you just might blame the British [again] lol.
.
Today I had a pleasant lunch with three Argentine couples in Punta del Este and this subject came up. Of the total of 6, only one Argentine lady thought the Ushuaia incident was a good thing, but she was unable to explain why. The other 5 Argetines present had nothing good to say about CFK's policies regarding the Falklands or anything else. Of course, these Argentines having lunch at a Punta del Este restaurant are not run-of-the-mill Argentines. They're successful, and they don't live off government handouts.
nah JORGE not a rebel, just RG's (your countries a democracy right????? Snigger, snigger), having an opinion which differs to that of some other RG's! Not rebels, or traitors or anything of the like!
31 - Actually Jorge, I believe the lady in question lives in Recoleta. That would make her a Porteña rather than a provincial, wouldn't it? Nah, I think it's just something she was taught in school, on a par with the Earth's being flat. Certainly not a carefully thought out opinion.
I'm not a poor person because I don't speak spanish, and this aside, why do spanish speaking people eat yellow rice? Eskimos clearly tell you not to eat yellow snow, so why do these spanish speaking people eat wee-rice, is it because they're so very very poor?
Surely it's time for all British-flagged (and related) cruise vessels to cease even attempting to dock anywhere in argieland? Not difficult to do. Call in in Brazil, then Uruguay, then down to the Falklands and then into the Pacific and calls in Chile and other ports along the western coast. This avoids disappointing the paying customers. Those customers that actually want to visit a cess pit could leave the cruise at Montevideo or Punta Arenas and travel overland (but not by train).
34 - Actually it's saffron that makes the rice yellow. Tastes really good, but bloody expensive. Perhaps the poor put in some colouring agent to make rice look as if it's prepared with saffron.
35 - When for one reason or another a cruise ship at Punta del Este is unable to allow passengers on shore (usually due to bad weather, cruise ships anchor in the bay and the ship's launches transport passengers back and forth), there are many locals who lose money - bus companies, hawkers, shop and restaurant staff, taxi and limo drivers - the list goes on and on. Uruguayan papers claim that the average cruise ship passenger spends to the tune of USD 60 on a visit ashore. I imagine the losses are about the same for the citizens of Ushuaia, but CFK probably couldn't care less.
@34 GreekYoghurt
Not very diplomatic, don’t get too fixated on those Argentinians that just want to wind us up, there are plenty of Spanish speaking good guys, although I do appreciate you can forget them, when mainly dealing with morons.
p.s. The same rule as when driving applies here, if you’re tired don’t.
I think as misguided as Argentina's policies are, they have succeeded in really pissing off many here. Because as weak and feeble as they see Argentina being, the fact it is doing such things and other countries can do little about it makes it worse for them.
Of course CFK is hurting her country now, but that's to be expected by 70s guerilleros that never actually became adults and are doling out their vendettas 30 years later. Including to the military they completely gutted yet now want to project belligerancy. It's a completely disjointed strategy.
Asked about the reported plan to block British imports, Mr Cameron's spokesman told reporters at a regular media briefing in Westminster: It is clearly very sad that Argentina continues with their policy of confrontation.
We think that is counter-productive and also a complete misreading of Britain's resolve on this issue.
The UK is also a major investor in Argentina and we import goods from Argentina. It is not in Argentina's economic interest to put up barriers of this sort.
Last year Argentina imported goods worth over 600 million dollars from Britain - mainly consisting of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and cars.
.
Cars? I have never seen a British car on the strees of Argentina. I don't say this to insult, just a genuine observation. Unless we are talking about Italian, German, or American cars made there.
What you are seeing here is irritation in response to continued provocations. The real piss off comes when the oil starts to be exploited. And it won’t be the Brits or Islanders feeling it.
