Mar 08th, 2012 - 09:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0To be honest, I think most people are surprised it has taken this long given Brazil is doing a fantastic job of bringing in investment and running a well ordered economy plus the fact it has over 3 times as many people as the UK.
Mar 08th, 2012 - 10:08 am - Link - Report abuse 0South America needs to use Brazil as a yardstick on how to develop. I think we will see more of these large developing economies pass by the developed economies!
Well done Brazil.

Mar 08th, 2012 - 11:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0With three times the population, about 35 times the land area and massive untapped natural resources this is hardly a great surprise. If anything it's a surprise that it's taken this long.

Mar 08th, 2012 - 12:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina on the other hand has gone from 4th largest economy in the world to just outside the top 20.

Mar 08th, 2012 - 02:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0People who undestand the history that Brazil went through, aren't suprised why it did take them so long to be spot where they are today. Brazil, during the 70's,80 and begin 90's was a nightmare for most Brazilians and had no confidence at all in themself. Today, slowly that is changing, though they understand they have a long way to go. If you read magazines/news papers from northern nations, you think that Brazilians act like a superpower or whatever, but in reality, not true at all. If you ask Brazilians in person, you would hear that majority are interested in becoming a sustainable economic power, not military power (mind your own business policy), though they want a stronger defence (defence=protecting the homeland, period) which is good and make sense in my opinion.
Good job Brazil, stay the course, you have a long way to go and don't let the number drive you to madness, it's just a number for statistics.
Interesting view Fido, I'm aware of Brazilian history as an investor but seemingly not to your level when it comes to social factors.
Mar 08th, 2012 - 02:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Thanks.

Mar 08th, 2012 - 06:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well done Brazil. You will go the same way as India and China. Millions of poor people working under poor conditions to produce electronic problems for the West. You have all sold your soul in becoming supposedly 'financially better'.

@14 You are wrong, british ignorant! Current argentine GDP is more or less 440 Billion and rising, unlike british which is going down the toilet.

1 trillion = 1000 billion
Using your numbers, in PPP, argentine economy is 31,54% of the england one, with 33% less population.
envious
Mar 10th, 2012 - 05:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0No, really Conqueror, your math is wrong. 710 billion is 0.71 tn, and thats around a third of 2.25 tn. Meanwhile 0.43tn is less than a fifth than 2.48tn. If you keep in mind that our population is only a bit over half that of the UK, we're not THAT bad, as you depict it.
Mar 10th, 2012 - 11:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0Brazil has about 190 million people, in contrast to the UK's 60 million people.
Mar 12th, 2012 - 04:28 am - Link - Report abuse 0the number of the population of Brazil is out dated. It's already above the 200 million number (Between the 200 and 210).
