    As a smoker, I have to say that the idea that plain packaging with big graphic health warnings on them would make absolutely no difference whatsoever (other than making it harder to tell what brand of tobacco is actually in a shop.

    Actually, looking at my tobacco, it's already in a largely drab monochrome pack with two health warnings on it and I'm not even Australian.

    Tobacco will be dead in a couple of decades. It's already on a sharp decline everywhere but South-East Asia. The Australian government will do what they want, regardless of what side WHO are on. *yawn*

    Go Aussies, its a dirty filthy disgusting habit, says this former smoker.
    So smokers(l was one of them)think that it is their right to pollute other people's air & get very uptight when challanged.

    @3

    And who are you to dictate what others do with themselves? This is is government facism, which you seem to so often blast argentines for, but oh it's your cousins the aussies, so government overreach is OK here.

    No, it's not OK for government to impose its will. Let people make their choices. If they are fools to smoke that poison it's no different than buying RAID at the market and drinking a cup or two.

    @5 tobias,
    l am me, thats who.
    Who are you, that is the question?
    Yes, smokers have the right to smoke.
    They do not, however, have the right to breathe disgusting second hand smoke over non smokers. Which they mostly belligerently & carelessly do.
    To get on their food & clothing.
    You really are a touchy little microbe aren't you, tobias.
    This was nothing about Argentina until you brought it up.
    You can drink all the RAID/smoke all the cigarettes that you like, only why should you expect to get the benefit of a medical system's costs that my taxes paid for.
    You've got a massive chip on your shoulder, mate.
    Perhaps you're just too intelligent for this world.
    @4 argentine sunshine,
    Never heard an Aussie say, “kickass”
    & your multipe use of the letter “y” is a dead giveaway.
    Just thought that you'd like to know.
    Maybe you could try “kiwi sunshine” or if that,too, doesn't work what about “jaapie sunshine” or “canuck sunshine”.
    Another question for you, since you are reluctant to answer the ones that l put to you.
    What do Aussies call Jaapies?
    Being a good Aussie, you follow Rugby, so you'd know that one.
    Que?

    They do? Well, I they don't on me, maybe anglo-saxon smokers are a bit less polite. I don't have anyone smoking on top of me. Who is the government or non-smokers to tell smokers what to do? If an establishement wants smokers, it should be allowed, maybe they consume more. If you don't like it, go somewhere else, if enough people go somewhere else, then I bet the businesses may “change”.

    I brought up Argentina because this is the one country that everyone can't do without. Ultimately, no one cares about Australia, Canada, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, the UK, or the United States. We all know that what unites us here is Argentina, the indispensible nation.

    @tobias,
    Yes a lot do blow their second hand smoke over you.
    l'm sure that they think its funny.
    Of course a lot of places now forbid smoking, so it is changing.
    l am in good humour this morning so l refuse to talk about the indispensible nation.
    l don't want to ruin a good day.

    Well no wonder people in Anglo nations are so militant about the non-smoking stuff. If they are that rude and uneducated, I can perhaps understand it but I still think it should not be mandated from a central government.
