So the Argentine Government suddenly realises that pissing off all it's neighbours are not a good idea.

However, they appear to be throwing a bone, hoping it'll be enough to appease their neighbours.

And according to the article, no agreement has yet been made, so we'll just have to see if this a genuine offer, or just more hot air.

It's amazing what suggesting the possibility of a direct flight from Uruguay to the Falkland Islands will facilitate. I think we can expect an announcement of a u-turn on that policy imminently. You have to laugh at South American politics :))

So much for the doomsayers and those who kept calling my Queen an unreasonable bully, suck on this victory for inter-continental, inter-leftist diplomacy =)

Really? You have to laugh at European dilusions of self-grandeur. The Falklands or the UK have absolutely nothing to do with this, which btw is just cajoling.

Argentina will not really change its stance, as we seek an isolationist policy of disengaging from the world, which is positive.

I agree that Argentina should go down the road of isolationism and the faster the better.

The less the world hears of Argentina the better it will be for all of us.

I can not say Viva el aislamiento! same happen in Japan, remember? I do not agree with Argentina government. So what we win from the isolation? As my grandmother said(in England ) ' Argentina is a good step-mother and bad mother ', same happen in England with hindi, right?
I know this lady loves to coax his people and it seems that now elects its counterparts in other countries, obviously the Mercosur. unless you want free UK Falklands, so it is really from baby Falklands is English, and is the best we can have, England always remained isolated and did not do anything wrong through history. may not be English like you, but enough about it.
Still take place in the British Hospital? what if there are missing resources?

Well, being American, not British, and after having traveled Argentina the last 2.5 months, I can give a pretty objective view on Argentina. The oil around Falklands, should belong to Argentina, since it's very clearly part of Argentina's shelf. The Islands though, should remain British.

That being said, Argentina is getting f*cked by Cristina, she's gone from a corrupt woman who said what the people wanted to hear, while living like a queen with their money....to losing her mind. I saw her down in Ushuaia recently ranting like Chavez, and this Malvinas Day the other day was ridiculous, and then the other day in Puerto Madryn they were testing the emergency sirens over and over, on Easter of all days, and then at like 6 in the morning the next day, I'm only guessing for impending possibilities of war.

Then there's the horrific protectionist policies and prices vs wages.....vs ANY wages, anywhere in the world. The prices of things here should dictate a wage equal to Japan or Norway. Imported olive oil, and a plethora of other imports aren't even ALLOWED.

Then there's the stopping the busses every 100 kilometers and police/army getting on and checking every person's passport/ID, because Cristina's losing her F*ing mind, thinking some assassin's on his way south to assassinate her probly, and she thinks f*cking bus checks are gonna stop such a thing. And making everyone throw their fruit out every few hundred kilometers for “control points”.
This country is so F'd!!! GORGEOUS land, incredible potential, even some really nice people.....HORRIFIC government, mediocre even by LatAm standards, and that's sayin somethin BAD.

Uruguay, on the other hand, I f*cking loved! Chile's up next :)

#8 Thanks for your impartial view, I obviously don't agree with all of it but your opening idea, on the Falkland's oil, is definately one possible solution negotiations might lead to. Of course its the british government refusing to enter negotiations, probably because they're worried about losing the oil. As for your assesment of my Queen, I'm not going to say none of the bad things you saw happened, but I really wouldn't see them as evidence that she's losing her mind. What seems to be happening right now is that an increasingly radical, ie pro-people, government is being attacked from all sides by the powerful vested interests both of the local oligarchy and world capital. So theres a struggle going on, and a transition period, and things are bound to be difficult in some ways for a while. But Argentina, and Cristina, survived a similar ruling class assault in 2008, and I predict, and certainly hope, that this time will be the same, and that out of it will come the foundations of a fairer, more redistributive Argentina, within the context of a left moving Latin America. If you still think Cristina is mad, look at her speeches, even in translation, and ask if a madwoman could be so eloquent? Not only is she not mad but I fervently hope she will be able to change the constitution to be elected again in 2015 - if the people would elect her of course, but I think they would

The Falklands (there are no Malvinas) being a BOT has the right to anything in its own territory which includes the seas around it.

Continental shelf has nothing to do with it. Distance from Argentina has nothing to do with it.

BTW, where did you visit in Uruguay as I am retired there?

So, oil around island groups belong to whichever large country is nearest irrespective of the sovereignty of those islands?

Sorry, but that is neither international law, nor a precedent set with any other island group in the world.

North Sea oil belongs to France as the UK is an island group and not connected to the mainland..?

Oil found around Cuba would belong to the US?

So China can whistle for oil around the Paracel and Spratley islands, that must belong to Vietnam and Indonesia.

Where does your new international rules for island groups stop? Do the oil and gas reserves around Australia belong to Indonesia?

The Falklands are 400 miles of the coast of Argentina. Iceland is only 550 miles off the coast of the UK....Does that mean if Iceland were to find hydrocarbons then the Brits should get them.

Argentina have no claim to the Falkland Islands. The islands belong to the people who live there. The waters surrounding the islands, belong to the islands..just as with every other island group in the world.

Do not mistake that the best solution for Conflicting views is some sort of middle ground. On this issue, the Argentine claim is wholly wrong. The rights of the Islanders to choose their fate wholly right.

Every other people's in the world are afforded this right, there is nobody in Argentina not afforded it, nor anyone in the UK. The Falkland Islands are no different.

Sadly for the Argentines, Kirchner has cost them “a share” of the massive oil province around the islands. A deal could have been done...not anymore. Poor Christina...poor Argentina.

ChrisR, I visited all of Uruguay, bought a motorcycle there, and traveled through every single pueblo. Best people I've met anywhere. And the police are decent people, probly the best police I've encountered anywhere, overall. Very free, open country, not hiding anything, friendly people. Where are you living in Uruguay?

Forgot to mention, on Argentina's industry: bought two pairs of expensive pants in Argentina, both fell apart within days, one of which caused me to lose even MORE money as some of my money fell out of one of the pockets that was was falling apart. And tried a few olive oils there, were terrible, actually tasted rancid, or more like corn oil than olive oil. These are the results of closing yourself off to competition, protectionist policies, your industries deteriorate til you're in the stone ages.
@British Kirchnerist, just because Cristina says things some of the people want to hear, doesn't mean she's not a corrupt POS living like a corrupt, insane queen off their money. I'm fluent in Spanish, I don't need translations for Cristina, she's losing her mind, on top of being corrupt. She's destroying the potential of this country, like so many leaders before her.

Sorry I cannot tell you where I live as a few of the Argies, one I call Dunni-Burger (DanyBerger) have stupid asperations of murdering me.

I am British and desperately attempting to learn Espanol using the local high school female literature teacher who is absolutely brilliant. Conjugating verbs is getting to me at the moment.

BTW I don't know what bike you had but I bought over a brand new (you cannot import used bikes) Suzuki GSX1250FA with ABS and a host of reliability mods fitted. It's great and ideal for an old biker like me (it will only do 250km/hr and 0-100 in 2.9 secs), not that I have done anything like that on it :o)

Hope you enjoy Chile, we nearly settled for Valparaiso, but the rim of fire put us off. Just as well as it turned out. Ride safely.
