The Spaniards are half-right but only up to a point. Theyre right in that theyve been the only scapegoats, one of three major Oil producing companies operating in Argentina, one wonders why a full-fledge attack is launched only on Spanish Repsol but not on the other big players on the game. Theyre wrong in that they must somewhat pay for not having done something they were supposed to do as agreed on in contracts with the Argentine state, namely exploring drilling and investing to keep up the declining production.
And I wonder what happened with the Contracts that Panamerican-BP got renewed all the way up to 2047 according to an article published in Le Monde Diplomatique in 2010, where with an eyeblink from the Fed govt, the provincial govts of Chubut and Santa Cruz went ahead with renewing the said contract. Am I missing sth here? or I happen to smell sth fishy...? How about Techpetrol? are they investing in El Tordillo, an oil field in Chubut? And what has happened with the off-shore plattforms investments that Brazil Petrobras could have risked exploring?? So many whys, so many questions... I just wonder who has been so irresponsible so as to let the years go by since 2000 and no one has showed the balls to press these companies before. Isnt it too late?
Of course I agree with current govts worries and actions toward the issue, but unfortunately it is rather too late. Hope not.
I always believed Argentina has the potential to be a much more powerful country than it is, but our leaders are may not be up to the call. May God help us get thru this oil crisis and get a better country.

At poster 5, I understand where you are coming from expect the point about re-investment. YPF have met the previously defined criteria however as usual CFK and her team of corrupt officials have reneged on the deal and are demanding something ridiculous now.

Very interesting developments. I'm sure one of our resident trolls will correct me if I'm wrong but I can't recall an event in recent history where the UK (motherland) has spoken out with such a warning to one of its grown up former British colonies. Australia, New Zealand, etc. I'm not talking about little squabbles with the likes of one of her Caribbean developing OTs but a real tongue lashing to another proper country. Serious stuff.

Also interesting that Pokey has no faith in his leaders and Think agrees. It wasn't long ago when everyone on the pro-Argentine/ Malvinas side had nothing but praise for their president.

Do I detect a few slight tremors?

    5. I guess you will see the outcome of who is right or wrong in the ICSID. I will be my last U$ that Argentina will be found in the wrong and Repsol will be awarded a judgement. By that time CFK will either be dead or living in Miami with her stolen Billions and BA will be like Caracas maybe La Paz.

@1 Whilst the Queen of Argentina and her chum Tinman have the World's “support” over the Argenine colonial aspirations over the Falklands she seems to have forgotten that she has a country to run. What a great way to repay all those countries. But then again her only true friends are the piriahs of the World such as Chaveztan, Iran and North Korea.

We Argentine's consider Spain another rogue failed state and we invite you to take your threats and shove it up your lower backend, we also have the International rights of self determination if that is enough for 3000 white people I am sure it's good enough for 40.000.000 criollos.

    Ah pirate my favorite troll!

I think you are confused this has zero to do with self determination.

However if Argentina goes through with this then it faces complete international isolation and for those crying over the Falkland's it means zero support not that notional support counts for anything anyway.

    #16 Think

Out of curiosity what oil field support services exist within Argentina?

Even if you have people to operate the wells etc, do you have an indigenous support industry that can produce and maintain the specialist oil tools required?

Nationalisation is all well and good, but when you rely upon the support infrastructure of the countries and the companies you've displaced I rather suspect your production will grind to a halt.

Argentina's current approach to international trade relations is going to cripple your ability to obtain specialist machine parts, tooling and support.

And how do you know what a failed state is? How did you come up with “Spain” as the recognized failed state, recognized as such by another failed state, if you are not from a failed state, thus unable to recognize this? You shoudn't be aware of this at all.

Petrobras (Brazilian oil corporation) recently lost its right to explore oil in a certain field in Argentina. In that case maybe Argentina was right because it seems like Petrobras was not using its rights.

Though in this case maybe what Argentina is trying to do is recovering YPF which certainly could help local economy. By doing that obviously Spain will not “be happy”. Argentina should try anyway. What will Spain do...

Yesterday YPF came up with a plan to increase its investments for I don't know how many billions for the next few years.

Interesting how they didn't think of that before.

Meanwhile, banks in the USA are not giving away loans for future home-owners who cannot afford them thanks to government regulation.

So whats the fuss about? The government will buy the shares of YPF if need be. If the stocks have plummeted they have themselves only to blame for underinvesting.

    Apr 13th, 2012 - 06:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0
  • Xect

    Ridiculous statement yet again Troneas.

YPF complied with what was required of it and yet again Argentina reneged on the deal and started withdrawing license.

As for US home owners, completely irrelevant.

The only person to blame here is the Argentine government for spectacular mismanagement of its own economy and then its desperate attempts to force other companies into re-investing all of their profits into redevelopment.

I'm truly astonished you are blaming YPF for the Argentine government and it causing a run on YPF's shares, disgraceful behavour from the Argentine government once more.

Do you ever wonder why foreign investment is drastically reducing and companies are trying to take money out of Argentina?

Fair play, although I’m not sure the story was completely turnip shaped considering China has been buying into companies/states so that they can dominate and control world oil resources for the next X many years.

If YPF isn't completely nationalised and it becomes a public private venture, will the upper hand be on the other foot?

@25 You've forgotten the most obvious. GOD is omnipresent and omniscient. And GOD is ENGLISH! Note that please. GOD is not scottish or welsh or irish or british, HE is ENGLISH. And, being ENGLISH, he “pisses” on people who aren't. Lots of GODpiss in scotland, wales and ireland. Even more GODpiss in places like asia and south america. Not so much GODpiss in North America or GOD's own land, ENGLAND. Some GODpiss is good. England, some parts of North America, New Zealand. No GODpiss or excessive GODpiss is bad. Australia, S. America, Asia. Antarctica, one of the largest deposits of GODpiss, will eventually make this clear as it splits apart and the argies fall, screaming, into the abyss. I do so hope I can watch!

@33 And here we have it, people! Argie illiteracy, incomprehension, “historical” rewriting, lies, criminality, malfeasance, manipulation, mendacity and ignorance. Time for THE WORLD to show argieland that, despite its aspirations to being a drain or gutter, it remains a CESSPIT! A large-scale SEWAGE pit.

Please explain how it is tha the people of the Falkland Islands want to be part of Argentina. I'm a Falkland Islander and I don't want to be part of Argentina. My wife and kids are also Falkland Islanders and they don't want to be part of Argentina either. We visit Argentina on holidays or business from time to time and we sometimes buy the odd Argentine product. We also do that in/with over 25 other countries- at a quick count- but we don't want to be part of those countries either.

Please explain sensibly and honestly how it is that you think we want to be part of Argentina. If your answer involves our geographical location please then go on to explain why Argentines wish to be part of Chile.
