I wonder if the new dictator will be as obese as Chavez. I can see him now, strolling through that wide doorway, Morales, KFC and Correa standing to attention, waiting for orders. Business as usual in LatAm.

So Venezula's military is planning what to do in the event of their glorious leader dying.

In democratic countries, an election would be called, but why bother with an election when you can just seize power? And hope to keep that power by praying China and Russia will back you up. They might just do that in order to spread their influence, but the cost of this support to Venezula maybe more expensive than at first is apparent.

I wonder if dear Cristina will still be chums with a military junta, especially as she proclaims loudly how bad they are, and how democracy is the best blah, blah, blah.

Venezuela is a failed state and the people seem mesmerized by Chavez.

It might just be a foretaste of what Argentina could become if things do not improve fairly quickly.

No decent modern country has the military waiting in the wings to take over. Surely the days of cigar smoking sunglasses wearing generalissimos is behind SA or did I miss a newsletter or something?

It seems perhaps the 21st century is splitting into two destined camps,
Those that are driving forwards, with progress
And those few that are slipping back into the past, of dictatorship and terror,
    .
