This is only the beginning. ARg will become like Zimbabwe or Venezuela in another 3 years, so mismanaged that they can barely feed themselves, business will flee, mfg will drop to the bare minimum. Just look at Venezuela and see the future of Arg. They can't buy milk or toilet paper in Caracas! In BA right now they can't buy diapers!

If anyone is sad its the RG mothers who can't find diapers, or people with cancer or HIV that no longer have any drugs to help them fight the disease..all caught at the ports still...YIKES!

Sorry, my brain having trouble keeping up wth my fingers. That should have read. Geo Park. The Company showning interest in investing in Argentinian oil production, aswell as in neighbouring countries.
Alpargatas was the biggest textile firm in Argentina ,at one time employing thousands throughout the country.
Owned by A British family , Peron & Evita tried to expropriate it but failed .
They made the espadrilles ( alpargatas ) that are the national footwear.
A sad day indeed .
This is the equivalent of the Ford Motor Company leaving the US.
Another triumph for Cristina
9. They have been laying off employees for awhile. The cost structure is just too high in Argentina they can make them cheaper and better in Brazil.
As I said, this is just the beginning of the quiet withdrawal of industries...RGs have learned nothing from their past, they tried this before ( about every 20-30 yrs) and go into a severe depression then realize their mistake and come back out. The problem is each time the depression is longer and the recovery is shorter.
11PH .Thanks for that business tip.I will immediately liquidate all my businesses in Europe and re-invest every penny I have in Argentina.
After all , what could possibly go wrong ?
@11 Wow, it sounds like Argentina is a paradise. Argentinos are all wearing fine leather shoes now? I guess the per capita GDP has tripled in the last 2 months since I was there?
I love the way you guys re shape history and facts as you like.
“Owned by A British family”
Alpargatas was founded by Etchegaray family, later a former English supplier company that supplies Yute from Pakistan to Etchegaray was interested in the business and they made a joint venture. The Etchegaray family always retained the full control of the company.
“This paper analyzes the history of Fábrica Argentina de Alpargatas from the year when it was established, 1884, until 1940. It is the history of an industrial company producing mass consumption goods for the internal market, controlled by the local board of directors, although counting also on an important participation of foreign capital. In this research mainly the company's files have been used, in order to analyze the economical behavior which enabled the company to grow during the period considered. Main topics in this paper are the formation of capital and its rentability in the company. This paper is the first outcome of a broader research on the history of Argentine industrial companies and their growth strategies.”
“controlled by the local board of directors” do you know what that means?

Warm Congratulations to Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner from Foreign Personages
Buenos Aires, April 24 (CNA) -- The dear respected Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner received warm congratulations from foreign personages on her election as first secretary of the Workers' Party of Argentina and first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Peronist movement.
The general secretary of the Central Committee of the Peronist Party of Mendoza said in a statement on April 18 that Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's election as first secretary of the PPM and first chairman of the CCPP of Argentina is a historic event of great significance in strengthening and developing the WPK and carrying out the Peronist revolution.
The general secretary expressed the conviction that the service personnel and people of Argentina would achieve greater successes in the struggle for building a great prosperous powerful nation and achieving independent and peaceful reunification of the country under the leadership of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
The chairman and secretary general of the Peruvian Group for the Study of Peronism said in an article posted on Internet website in their joint name on April 14 that holding leader Cristina in high esteem as general secretary of the CCPP and chairman of the NDC of Argentina forever and electing Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner as first secretary of the CCPP and first chairman of the NDC are a striking demonstration that the socialist cause of Peronism is being steadfastly carried forward in Argentina.
The former chairman of the Bolivia-Argentine Friendship Society said in an e-mail sent to the Argentine embassy on the same day the election of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner as first secretary of the CCPP and first chairman of the NDC of Argentina is an event that pleased all members of the society, wishing her greater success in her work.

16 DB : There were Anglo Argentines on the board of directors , and as your piece says counting on the important participation of foreign capital .
Without European ( primarily British ) investment and expertise , the infrastructure of the country would not have been developed .
And what that means? You have Germans in your royal family, that means UK belongs to Germany? I don’t get it.
Are you like the Italians that when Maradona was the best player in the world was for them Italian and when he has Drugs problem become suddenly Argentinean?
“Without European ( primarily British ) investment and expertise , the infrastructure of the country would not have been developed”
Sorry how your little head works?
So without Argentinean Guillermo Enrique Hudson (William Hudson) born in Florencio Varela (Buenos Aires) writer and also scientist founder in UK of “Royal Society for the Protection of Birds” you would have books or biology?
Argentinean Architect (Cesar Pelli from Tucuman) designed your tallest building in UK like Canary Warf . So that means that without Arg. know how you still would be living in a medieval town?
Like this your head works? Its more recent than your poor and sad 1800 peace of story about the railways.
So can you tell me why FI being so British has not airlines, underground, highways, industries, sats, modern buildings, etc, etc, etc.???
Are you telling me that UK was so kind, generous and care so much about Argentina and forgot true proud British abandon to their own luck?
After all you say that you exist before the argies, right?
What happened mate? British can develop other nations but cannot do the same with their own little backyard and country? Everything belongs to foreigner in UK, have you noted that?
So what is your explanation about this I would like to hear it.
DB : Do put some ketchup on the chip on your shoulder ....
Ever been to the FI ? No crime , hunger ,villas , drugs or endemic corruption , you'd hate it
In 10 years time , the Falklands will have all the infrastructure it requires to service a booming oil industry .
Your oil industry ( the one that lost U$S6Bn in the 70's ) will still be broke because your politicians , whether military or civilian, always put their hand in the cookie jar and take too much .
And yes , you are right , there is a lot of foreign investment in the UK , because the foreigners have confidence in the UK and we have always been a global trading power .
Argentina could have been too , if Peron had not decided to go it alone in the 40's , a policy being followed now by CFK.
In a year , there will be a shortage of many things in BA , you watch.
1- “Ever been to the FI ? No crime , hunger ,villas , drugs or endemic corruption , you'd hate it”
I don’t have anything of this in my backyard either and what that proves?
And you are at least bad informed or lying (I will give you the benefit of the doubt) I read about some drug problems in FI, Drinking problems, violence, etc, etc.

And btw if you are not aware of who are smuggling drugs into your wonderful and perfect FI are not those nasty Argies or Nazi Germans otherwise Spanish and fellow Brits. To turn your children into future addicts and with the head burned.
2- “there is a lot of foreign investment in the UK, because the foreigners have confidence in the UK”
There is a lot of FI in UK because it is easy to be sucked especially from International Bankers. And UK guarantees that they can get away with it.
3- I will not argue with you abut ARG Peron policies because you would have to make a lot of research (like I did) and would be pointless. I used to be anti-Peronist I have to confess when I was very young (and without reason), due to influence of right wind business environment. Until one day I thought why this guy is so hated? And I started to research, do the same and then come back.
4- “In a year , there will be a shortage of many things in BA , you watch.”
Shortage of what? Because in all economies always exist shortage of something even in Europe, USA, China, Japan, etc. can you be more precise about it? Because can be a business opportunity to invest in something that will be hardly demanded.
