    Interesting that the company asks for the add to be banned by the Argentine government. considering they knew nothing about it and its a one woman crusade against the Falklands that produces quite a predicament for the RG govt and raises the question of just exactly who is running this fucked in the head country.

    the woman has clearly lost it and it is the first clear sign that democracy has run its course in Argentina and that there is a dictatorship in Town - el Presidente.

    Damage limitation excercise, the markets had knocked $500m of the company value today, it went back up $100m after the statement

    The Argentines should perhaps take note that when you make a fool of yourself the best option is not to stamp your feet and scream louder.

    Two things certain.
    1. The IOC may privately warn the Argentine OC about publicity stunts, but they will not ban the team.
    2. Argentines are victims CFK's propaganda. Let the athletes be treated with kindness and respect as many will realize they've been hoodwinked.

    @35

    None because we would never jeopardize our participation in World Cups of the sports we care about. Even in 1986 Argentina did no propaganda, you would think that would have been the time with the raw feeling of military defeat.

    Though Argentina even boycotted FIFA world cups in the 1938, 1940s and 1950s. We boycotted 3 world cups outright and 2 more by sending amateurs.

    That is why one of the world's greatest footballers, Di Stefano, never played for Argentina in a world cup, when Argentina had some GREAT teams to win.

    And no I woudn't watch an athlete winning gold. I would congratulate him and be happy for him, but I don't care about his sport! This is just keeping it real... I'm not trying to rain on the efforts of athletes I respect it, but it doesn't mean I'll be watching. Do you watch the UK in basketball? No, because Brits don't give a darn about that sport.

    I wonder how far the government is prepared to push this? They've already been warned about the video by the IOC but will they care or just see it as good publicity?

    I keep saying it, Argies don't care about the Olympics! If the government thought we actually did care as a population, they would NEVER risk taking away sport watching from argies...

    Government never messes with sports viewership.

    It shows that not only the government gives a darn about the Olympics, but that they know that if something really happened 90% would not care since they were not planning to watch or root anyway.

    Of course it would be unfortunate for the athletes, but almost all are unknown in Argie. It's not like in most other countries (even some of our neighbors like Brazil or Chile), where Olympic stars can be famous on their own. In Argentina none is because no one cares.

    @38 and 41

    Yes perhaps it is sad Argentines don't give a minimun huh about most Olympic sports. Neither to support them, nor to fund it, nor to participate in them. Argentines like team sports mainly (with tennis and paddle being exceptions), not individual sports.

    As for your basketball, all I was saying that in Britain basketball is a minor sport and you know it. At least not popular enough as Britain quite honestly sucks at the sport. I was out of real respect in the belief that the reason the UK (England, etc) were so bad at it was mainly because there was not sufficient pool of talent because not many people play the sport.

    Which makes sense, that is why most countries are bad at sport, lack of participation. Why the USA being such a big country is horrible in football, or India likewise. Yet they are great in cricket.

    That was my bigger point about many olympic sports. If Argentina doesn't win is because very few people actually play or get any financial support whatsoever. And they certainly don't do steroids like in many Olympic powers which is a well known fact.

    In fact, only a few weeks ago a French photographer was shot dead in Buenos Aires for just taking a picture if the memorial without even so much as defiling it. Curious that, according to Clarin, the subsidiary of Y&R in Argentina put out a statement signed by the Creative Director saying how proud they were of this work and refused to apologize for desecrating a war memorial. WPP doesn't appear to know what the hell is going on in it's organisation, or they're a bunch of soul-less gimps. One or the other.

    65: Clarín also reports that CFK plans to attend UN's Decolonization Committee - first time Argentine president has ever attended apparently, and that by coincidence, meeting 14 June - Argentina's Falklands Ward surrender date. And goes on that “wait to see what's being prepared for the Olympic Games in London.”

    @68 I doubt it. Advertising people don't have a moral or ethic to share between the lot of them. They think there is no such thing as bad publicity and recall is everything to them. Sadly, that's fine when it's attached to a brand, and they kind of shot themselves in the foot because people's attitudes are now 'Y&R = Anti-british Monument Desecrating Morally Vacuous Knobs'. That's why they sent out one message to the anglosphere and another to the spanopoorsphere, so they can keep milking all the cows.

    @67, it's kind of ironic that you're an argtard, and you're calling people retarded. Argtards are by definition the retards, knob-head.

    Well seems we are making some progress here.

    You are right people in the Marketing and media business think that way.

    “Better people talk badly about you that don’t talk about you at all”

    So they have archive the objective with that spot.

    Hmmm! Rather than trashing a whole industry in a couple of ill informed sentences, I'll go with:
    'A basic character trait of many (note the word, “many”) Latin cultures is the inability to plan ahead, including: thinking about the consequences, before speaking, deciding or acting.'

    Argentina is a product of colonialism, conquered by the sword, most of the natives killed and infected by disease, their land taken from them and worked by imported African slaves, oversean by imported European colonials. The African's who made up 50% of the population would themselves completely disapear from Argentina between 1850-1900 in what could have been a chilling fore runner to the disareances of the Dirty War in the 1970's when an estimated 30,000 Argentines were raped, tortured and murdered, many more were held illegally in detention camps and tortured. The true figure for the dead could be as high as 100,000, no one knows because there is little official documentation and most bodies were dumped in the sea.

    Argentina took land from its neighbours in numberous wars , civil wars and land grabs - Paraguay, Uraguay, Chile. Today Argentina despite the changed political landscape is still a nation characterised by uber nationalism. The claim to the Falklands was surendered in 1850 but reserected in 1941 by a fascist junta, which inc Peron, they thought their friends the Nazi were going to win the war, the Falklands looked easy picking.

    In 1982 Argentina was under the latest succession of a series of fascism military junta's. Their hold on power was looking precarious, in deperation they sort a war, Chile looked like a good victim, they already claimed lots of land and were ignoring the international tribunals that had ruled in Chile's favor. But then they changed their mind and invaded the Falklands. Today the war is romanticized by a nation ruled by a kind of cross between a Neo-Nazi uber nationalist and a Charvesta Revolutionary uber Marxist. The only thing missing is the land reform. Maybe that's for later? But as few natives remain, maybe they'll just ignore their rights... God knows they always have. An entire culture replaced by a European one. Entire languages destroyed.

    Timmerman should take time to read about his country's history.

    #51 “Where else in the world is run by the grandaughter of Croatian Nazi war criminals portraying themselves as the champions of human rights”

    I don't know, Croatia maybe, certainly not Argentina as Cristina has zero Croatian heritage, so your just making stuff up now, aren't you?
