A successful oil and gas engineer .. but, as even a quick glance at his record will show, an abject and habitual failure as a businessman

Well at least they will be able to recognise him at board meetings. He's the one carrying the spade.

That would only work if he were the only Argentinian present. Since all Argentinians shovel shit for a living, they will all likely be equipped with at least on spade.

At least this guy had some experience in the field before he went into consulting (which is what the over-arching Schlumberger outfit is).

His biggest problem by far will be whatever he has agreed with The Mad Bitch as to how he will run the New YPF, she will, without consulting him, decide on the hoof to change it if it benefits her or makes her look 'decisive'.

The second biggest problem is the lack of money in New YPF now The Mad Bitch has robbed them of what was there under Repsol.

There is not a cat in hell's chances that 25 BnU$D per YEAR will be given to him to use bringing forward the fracking fields.

He MAY be able to increase existing production IF he is given the money he will need for the technology he will want to use for the purpose.

Finally, will he REALLY be the CEO or will The Old Git and HomoBoy from Le Camp-it-up continue to interfere as well as The Mad Bitch?

I imagine however that The Mad Bitch will soon tire of New YPF once another fire starts raging in her country which needs her 100% attention.

But if Galuccio was working in London won't the RG's stop his ship from docking in an RG port?

I wonder how long it will take him to realize that he is being hired as a figurehead; all credits will be given to the present K-people, and all blame will be given to him.

    @10

You have hit the nail on the head. When it all goes wrong they will blame him. Does Galuccio know what he is getting into? Does Galuccio know that Argentina is down in 100th place in the Worldwide Corruption Index of nations and that lying and cheating are second nature?

i think it takes a bit more than running project management company and to have done a bit of drilling and exploration to being CEO of a multi billion pound oil company. Every Oil Company on the AIM let alone the FTSE 250 or 100 has “Oil executives with with 20 - 30 years experience in the industry” so don't think Mr Galuccio is anything out of the ordinary and actually why has he been chosen? family connection, easily manipulated? It will be interesting to see what he actually achieves or doesn't.

“Experienced oil company executive appointed as head of oil company” - hardly news is it? Then again I guess the real, unwritten, headline is “Unexpectedly, YPF NOT handed over to someone who is related to a senior govt official but knows nothing about oil”.

    Guys,

the index of corrupt nations is quite sad and funny at the same time as it has Argie-land down in 100th place equal to Benin, Burkina Faso and Madagasca.

@15 BB - One of the most interesting aspects of the index you mention is it's a PERCEPTION of corruption index. In other words, it's how corrupt the locals themselves perceive their country to be. So Argentinians KNOW it's impossible to get anything done without bribes or someone creaming something off the top. The problem with endemic corruption is breaking the cycle - something that successive Argentine govts have either failed to do, or haven't even tried to do.

Have you noticed how sparse the Argie commenters get when truth is coming out in the open?

#14 “I guess the real, unwritten, headline is “Unexpectedly, YPF NOT handed over to someone who is related to a senior govt official but knows nothing about oil””

I think your right, but its not unexpected to me, just to those with an absolutely non-credible perspective on Argentina

@20 BK Unlike those with a credible perspective on Argentina like, say, those ARGENTINE people desperately struggling to export hard currency before the peso implodes? Or there's you, someone who's got such a grasp of geo-politics that despite being a self-proclaimed socialist he defends a crypto-fascist kleptocracy from the comfort and safety of the free, liberal, law-abiding UK?

But what's the point I us arguing impotently, it serves no purpose - let us instead see what the future brings for YPF, Argentina and her oft-hoodwinked citizens. Only time will truly tell, but unfortunately what she often tells is the tale of “I Told You So”.

He will be the scapegoat when it inevitably goes tits up. why oh why did he take this job. It is a decision that, in time, he will sorely regret.
