Thanks IOC and Young and Rubicam, but this Argentine “initiative” to embarrass Britain is quite likely only the opening salvo. CFK government is probing the limits of activism to see how far they can go to push Britain and British people into a reaction that could arouse international - but more importantly Argentine emotions. Argies basically want to push Britons to do something unseemly - like an acrimonious welcome in London. Argies are smart enough to know what they are guilty of but they want to offload that onto Britons. Everybody needs to be cool until we see where the Argies are headed with their parade - and then time to step out in front of it.

John: Excellent observation and wise advice, CFK is like “a loose loaded cannon on a rolling deck” and I hope cool heads in the UK will prevail. This is however a government that has no idea on how to conduct public relations.

Give my country what it wants. The Falklands? No, no that.
The government have cut all the imports, expropiated the biggest company in the country, and is cuting in every front the ties with every country in the world with the exception of a few “selected” ones.
Take all your investments out of Argentina, Stop buying anything produced in Argentina. Dont pay attention and do not give any more press to this government. Ban Argentina of the olimpic games.
Its the only way this regime will dry out of money for handouts and their own pockets and that 54% that voted it will have to start working for a living.

I'm glad the evidence is building and building, Argentina is getting deperate now and is using the most childish and desperate measures to get attention. Our leaders husband died, sympathy, she might have cancer sympathy, we just want peace, sympathy. Absolutely pathetic, the only one benefitting from this is some warehouse somewhere that's supplying all those toys being thrown from your pram. Argentina is failing at it's goals... But don't worry, you still have your gay little patio.

3000 islanders... As an uruguayan i despise you all for doing what you are doing to those people... Britain, show you mean what you say and remove those troops, it's not like you have too many maidens in line to move to the “falklands”, you made them blood dependant, and they are getting fewer, all so you can have a strategic military presence.
Argentina is wrong in using the olympics, but you deal marked cards and condemn when people cheat...

And now the whole world sees Argentinians for the despicable bunch of amoral @rseholes they all are. If I had pulled my trousers down and taken a dump on an Argentinian war memorial the whole Argentinian nation would be up in uproar, but not a whimper of criticism of their own side when they so publicly defile a war memorial ... or indeed any mention of the fact that Argentina to this day is such a military state that no-one would have been able to make such a video in Argentina.

Argentina has shown that the entire nation are lowlife scum who don't deserve statehood, let alone control of foreign territories.

@11 - Guzz, as a typical Argtard you keep missing the point. British troops are on the Falklands at the request of the Falkland Islands Government, to protect them from Argentinian aggression. If they weren't there, Argentina would've invaded them by now.

@13 - Guzz, unlike the Argentinian government, Britain knows how to act on the world stage. All Argentina can do is screech at the top of it's voice. When they realise no one's listening they pull pathetic stunts like your feeble excuse for an Ambassador did in London, and your feeble excuse for a government has done here.

Now your government (and I say your government Guzz 'cos everyone knows your are a La Campora troll trying to pretending to be Urugayan), has pissed off yet another international body, to add to its growing list.

If Argentina is stupid enough to try to make some political gain by a demonstration at the Olympics, you'll find yourselves out on your ears, banned from attending international sporting events until your government learns what is, and is not acceptable at international events.

But of course it won't be Argentina's fault will it? No people like your corrupt government could never hold up their hands and say, 'sorry, we went a bit too far,' no you'll blame Britain, and you'll blame 3,000 innocent people who want nothing to do with your corrupt government and it's Nazi policies.

It's a shame it keeps coming to this with Argentina. Somehow Argentina keeps finding new and innovative ways to disgrace itself just a little further.

The UK doesn't need to do anything other than issue a statement regarding this since Argentina is doing itself a world of damage.

And if Argentina seeks to take any further action around the Olympics either it shouldn't be allowed to compete or if at a later stage its athletes should be sent home in disgrace.

However, defiling a war memorial is truly scum like behavior.

Actually, you know this is really all just a conspiracy on the part of Argentina to get themselves excluded from the Olympics. They can't afford to send a team to London; so, rather than admit that, they are working on trying to spin a story in which the whole world ganged up on the poor little fairy fascist state and prevented them from attending. They failed and will now have to find another implausible excuse :)

@21 - Guzz. Argentina militarising the Anartic is against The Antartic Treaty. So once again the Argentinians break international law.

    http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/about_antarctica/geopolitical/treaty/

An Guzz, since you can't win your arguments over the Falkland Islands you resort to normal 'Argtard' behaviour, and begin insulting the people that live there.

Tell me Guzz, if Argentina's claim to sovereignty is so legal, why have their government consistantly refused to take the issue to the International Court of Justice?

The answer is that all your claims to sovereignty are based on lies. The Argentine government in 1850 signed a treaty with Britain recognising that the Falklands were British, and since the inception of the UN (Argentina was a founding member of this organisation), the right to self-determination trumps all other arguments.

But back to the story, the IOC are warning the Argentine government here. I truly believe that Argentina's own National Olympic Committee didn't know about this advert, which probably means that they won't know if your increasing erractic government are going to politicise the Olympic Games themselves. If Argentina does that, the international ramifications would be severe.

Oh, but I forgot, you don't need the world do you? You can live off beef and soy beans for the rest of your lives! Failing that China will come and save you!

    Pathetic!

one of the many disturbing aspects of all this is the way that CFK is using the memory of the Argentine soldiers who died during the conflict. tagging that bit on the end of the video “to the memory” of the dead: really quite sinister. she seems to be all but saying that what the military regime did wrong was to fail in taking and holding the islands, not that it was wrong to try to do so by military means; by blaming Britain for their deaths, she is allying herself with the military junta that sent Argentine soldiers to their graves...
on a different note, i think that the video is an own goal. aside from being offensive, what really stands out in it is the way Port Stanley looks so English, so neat, so well cared for, so peaceful.

@9 Guzz. Typical Argtard. Always blaming everyone else for the state of your country.

When you government finally grows up and starts taking responsibility for it's own actions, when you stop constantly looking back and instead begin to look forwards, once you finally put a stop to the systemic corruption of your political classes, then you will have a bright future.

But what does Argentina do? They blame everyone but themselves for how the country is. Argentina is nearly 200yrs old, yet you still blame Europe for all your ills!

It's about time Argentina grew up as a nation, and started behaving responsibly to their own people and on the world stage. And if Argentina makes a mockery out of the Olympic Games this summer, it will be the final nail in the coffin for any support over anything, let alone the Falklands, because not only will you be disrepecting the spirit of the Olympics, you will disrespect every nation who participates.

Latest Argentinian training method for Olympic track events. Take one RG athlete and one Gurkha. Give the athlete a 5m head start. Truely amazing results, knocks seconds off their personal best. The Falklands will grow and they will prosper, with your co-operation or without it, it makes no odds. In less than 200 years the population has grown by 100x. At that rate, 200 years from now, discounting inward migration, that figure will be 300,000.

They will be rich, fiercely independent and at the rate things are going, utterly hostile to Argentina.

Argentinian attitudes could change that outcome or you could continue as you are, offering yourselves up onto the alter of sacrificial throbberdom.

Well if they do try something at the Olympics, then their government wouldn't be invited to the opening of a paper bag, let alone be allowed a seat on the UN Security Council or invited to meetings for grown ups.

The problem with the Argentinian government is that they never think long term. It's always the quick fix.

I don't get my way at the OAS summit, so I'll steal an international company. The UN won't listen to us, so we'll get our Ambassador to humilate herself by speaking inappropriately to the wrong person at the wrong venue.

No one is listening to us, so we'll make a propaganda advert, and to ensure we really upset people, we'll defile a war memorial.

That one act, in that commercial, has outraged countries all around the world. It is considered the most despicable thing that can be done. It shows the world the contempt that the government of Argentina has to those who fought and died for their country, the contempt the Argentine government has to decency, and the contempt that the Argentine government have for the people of the Falklands.

Yup this advert has got to be classed as one of the biggest 'own' goals in history. Well done CFK!

Guzz, keep up your good work. You are an absolute brain dead fool. As someone, who has visited your pleasant country (Colonia del Sacremento, Montivideo and Punte del Este), and has some Uruguayans here in Australia, thankfully not all Uruguayans are radical socialist dimwits like you, with some crazy fascination with having a government like Venezuela, Cuba or the present Argentinian government.

As to colonisation, you should know a lot about that. You claim to be Uruguayan, so if that's correct, tell us all about the original inhabitants, the Charrua. Presently, in Uruguay, pure blood Amerindians are practicaaly non-existant, with just 8% of the national population being mestizo (people with mixed Spanish and indigneous blood). That's right...88% of your population is white...which probably means you haven't been living in Latin America the last 600 years....who knows, Guzz, maybe your European ancestors arrived after a number of the Falklanders settled on their islands....that would not be a surprise, especially as many Europeans (like the families of Timmerman and Kirchner) settled in South America in the 20th century...so get off your high horse, and stop being a total foolish hypocrit.

And well done International Olymoic Committee for Argentina in its place as regards that foolish advertisement. Also well done Young and Rubicam for apologising for your agencies role in making of this advertisement.

As for Argentina, I again feel sorry for the many decent people who do live there and must feel absolutely ashamed and frustrated by the antics of Kirchner's government and her supporters. Argentina' s reputation is becoming an complete joke thanks to these fools, including Guzz's La Camporist and Malvinista comrades.

The charruas were free people, of free spirit. It is claimed they were atheist and lived as nomads. When the european came with their horses, the charruas adapted their way of living introducing these beasts, making them ferious fighters. So ferious that one General chose to join them and fight the Spaniards/BA/Portuguese. General Artigas dreamed of a society where all of us could participate, and the charruas believed in him. Another fellow, the Colorado founder Fructuoso Rivera was of another opinion though. He declared Artigas a traitor and chased his out of the country. Then he assambled all the different tribes in Salsipuedes (Getoutifyoucan), served them wine and started the massacre of the charruas. For the next generation, they were hunted down and killed, as pray. Last biggest scalp they got (that I know of), was the scumbags sisters son Bernabe Rivera, prooved charrua assassin.
After killing all their men, they dispersed all the survivors, splitting families in order to kill the culture as a whole.... They managed, charrua language is practically extinct, and the only thing that remained is the spirit...

If you check Frente Amplios flag and ideology, you will find out that we are the followers of Artigas, and if you ever see a Colorado, tell him about his past, remind him... Never again

The only reason Argentina wants Britain to De-militarise the S Atlantic, is so they can Re-militarise it with their forces, and steal our resources there and in Antarctica.

It’s not rocket science, you have run out of S America to “conquer” from the Indians, and are now trying to take British territory in the S. Atlantic/Antarctica.

However unlike Atahualpa, the British have more than just bows and arrows with which to defend their territory.

And as you Criollo Conquistadors need to be contained in S. America, a British military presence is necessary in the region.

@72 Guzz - now, now. Everytime you post on here you show everyone what a complete pillock you are.

The Falklander Islanders are a free people who choose their own way of life, and no tinpot little dictatorship like Argentina (yes Guzz you are Argentinian not Uruguayan everytime you post a blog it's so obvious you may as well be flying the Arg Flag), is going to bully them.

But your arguments are getting stale - same sh!t, different day. Are you weak from lack of food? Is the La Campora food parcel late today?

The Falkland Islanders have already agreed to hold a UN overseen referendum regarding sovereignty, but Argentian has ignored it. They've ignored it for 2 reasons:
    1. They would have to recognised the government and people of the Falklands, and therefore their right to self-determination.
    2. They can't rig the election in their favour.

So Guzz, crawl back under the rock where you normally dwell, and don't come out until you've got something to add this discussion regarding the Argentine government flagrant politicisation of the Olympics.

The Beagle Islands dispute with Chile is another fine example when Argentina refused to abide to a binding order awarding the Islands to Chile and set up a maritime boundary consistent with Argentine claims.

This is why we have an adequate defence force on the Falkland Islands.

    @ 78 Brit Bob, agreed.

When Argentina say we won't invade the Falkland Islands, so you don't need any military forces there, what they actually mean is: Once your military has left, we'll invade, terrorise the population, and ethnically cleanse them, steal the resources, and then mismange them into bankruptcy.

They must honestly think that the British and Falkland Island Governments have just got off the banana boat!

The Argentine President lives in cloud cuckoo land, surrounded by yes men, so she'll ignore what her own people are saying and what the interantional community are saying, and ensure that they do 'something' to politicise the Games. Of course, she'll only shoot herself in the foot again, leaving Argentina with more egg on their face.

But it won't be her fault, it's NEVER her fault...

I tend to look at how people act instead for listening to what they say. You guys are all “Pardon” and “Excuse me”, all polite when it comes to words, then you torture, murder and rape people all over the world. Argentina swears and bullies (there IS a reason they are called arrogant), but they don't invade anyone. You could say “1982!!!”, but that was the fascist junta and not the argentinians, and anyhow, it was 1982. Today it is 2012, and while Argentina is not an invasive nation, you have prooved otherwise.
So as I told you from the start, looking at your actions, I'm more worried of you guys, YOU send military, YOU invade sovereign nations, YOU pay puppet leaders, YOU make a whole society blood dependant of yourselves...

@81 Guzz. YAWN. You make spurious claims regarding the British, but where is your proof? Careful, you could be sued for liabel. If you can't back it up with proof (oh and Wiki and youtube isn't proof as they are not reliable sources of information), then you shouldn't say it.

Since when have the British tortured, murdered and raped people all over the world? Where is your EVIDENCE?

I also love it when you say 'Argentina didn't invade the Falklands, that was the facist Junta.' You talk about the Junta like they were a group of martians who invaded Argentina and did all these terrible things. They were not martians, they were Argentinians, and the things they did were in the name of Argentina, whether you like it or not. But you must also remember that the majority of the population of Argentina celebrated that illegal act of violence when the Falklands were invaded.

By this complete disassociation with atrocities committed by your fellow countrymen, whether it be the 'Dirty War' or the invasion of the Falklands, shows how immature as a people you are, and how unlikely you are to learn from history.

Accept responsibility for the actions done in YOUR name. Remember them and learn from them. There is no country in the world that doesn't have something in their past that they're not proud of, but they don't pretend it didn't happen or that it was 'someone else' not associated with their country.

Oh and a final point. The reason Argentina hasn't invaded anyone is because your military hasn't the capability to do so. But your neighbour Chile doesn't take the state of your military for granted, and so they keep their military strength up, because Argentine promises are only worth the paper they're written on.

But are you every going to comment on the subject of this thread. The Argentine governments blantant policisation of the Olympic Games?

Well, I think that shows just how cocaine-addled Guzz's pitiful excuse for a brain is.

To this very day Argentina is engaged in a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing. South Africa: Very negative reaction against Argentina.

EITHER- look on the official Islands Govet websites.

LOOK it all up at the UN - as the UN recognizes UK as the “administering power ” over the islands as we are not yet fully independent, and the UK thus has to officially lodge with the UN copies of our Constitution, Law methods etc etc so that the UN can satisfy itself that there is full democracy and no apparent corrution in the government here.

An interesting strand of Argentine hypocrisy is that Argentinians will deny responsibility for everything – despite mostly being the direct descendants of the most bloody and oppressive colonial power the world has ever known – they just say it was the fault of the junta, or happened before they were born .. or they just lie and claim that there never was (let alone still is) a systematic effort to ethnically cleanse what is now Argentina. Yet, they quite hypocritically expect the British people to accept ongoing responsibility for everything that has ever been done in the name of Britain, England or Scotland … and any of the many occupying powers of what is now Great Britain.

    Rank hypocrisy?

Scotland/Wales/N.Ireland and England compete together as Team Great Britainin the Olympics. They individually compete in the Commonwealth Games (as does the Falklands Islands) and other eventts.

If Scotland choose to leave the UK in their referendum of 2014, they will then represent just themselves in the Olympics from that point on and like the Falklands Islands, have the self-determination of the people to control the countries destiny, respected by the UK as a whole.

@127 Jerry, how could I have made such a basic mistake, I'll go and hold my head in shame.

@144 - Max, what time is it?

It's time for you to stop being a pillock. The British invented the modern game of football, and to begin with the only people whole played it were from the home countries. Because it's such an great game, other countries started playing too, and that's where FIFA and UEFA started, but they had to join us (so to speak) which is why we still play as separate nations.

However, in case you missed it, we have the Football Association(FA) while other countries have the Football Association of Spain (for example).

We also play as separate nations for rugby and cricket, just some more great games we've invented.

And what great games have the Argentines invented?

However, Max back on topic. So just what do you think about El Presidente politicising the Olympics games?

What do you think of her jepardising Argentna's participation and threatening to ruin the dreams of all those Argentine athletes who have worked bloody hard for the last 4 years or more to earn a place at the games? All for a cheap political stunt which has caused damned near universal critism, not only for politicising the games but for defiling a memorial to those who died in world war 1.

Max, do you actually have any opinions of your own, or do you have to wait for A Campora central office to supply you with them?

Clearly the argentines and their lackeys have abused a privilege extended to them by the people of the Falkland Islands. The families of the RG 's who are buried on the Falklands and whose lives were wasted by the criminal actions of the argentine government, will have every reason to feel aggrieved at the cowboy antics of their government. I can understand that Falkland Island people feel angst at RG visitors visiting their fallen kin who are buried on foreign soil, but in the interests of genuine humanity allow them to visit, despite the record of RG duplicity.
I think the whole incident is typical of RG mentality. Not unusual to see an RG running though. RG's are completely out of step with the rest of the world and are not what you'd describe as “normal”. Whole thing makes the skin crawl.

A boycott means making the UK rather unhappy that a country boycotted their games. You can say you won't care, you can say we don't matter, but fact is, even if a country like Burundi boycotts the games, it will get some attention specially at the opening ceremony.

Certainly Argentina doing so, since we send a sizeable delegation to games, will be what everyone talks about in the famous “Parade of Nations”.

I bet if they boycott or get banned they will blame the IOC, the British pirates or the Falkland Islanders (no wait, they don't exist) and try to get on some sort of moral high horse.

When CFK threw a tantrum it was about events clearly published by the UK in advance (Williams search and rescue deployment and HMS Dauntless) then they expropriate YBF's Repsol shares and kick all the Repsol staff out before the matter is discussed in parliament before becoming law and approve an advert which they know would be offensive using a man who lied about being a war veteran to get onto the Falklands.

It seems the Argie governments moral compass has switched polarity. It's like they hit someone and then blame the person for being hit by them when the police arrest them.

Another incredibly ignorant observation on what will be a public relations disaster for Argentina. All you're doing abroad is p*ssing of a lot of people who had little opinion before.

Sir Martin Sorrell “has condemned one of his advertising agencies for creating a TV commercial featuring an Argentinian Olympic athlete training on a war memorial on the Falkland Islands and called for it to be taken off air.” It is a nightmare for his company and makes fools of Argentines.

“Sorrell, the chief executive of the world's largest marketing group WPP, said he was appalled by the campaign and that his subsidiary had called for the Argentinian government to ban the commercial.”

    @189

Firstly, the ad was filmed by the Buenos Aires office of the company (seemingly without the knowledge of the Argentine Olympic commitee who referred all resulting complaints to the government) and have seen told to apologise for the offence caused (and most likely look for other employment).

Secondly, if you buy a car that is defective the car manufacturer can issue a recall to prevent harm being caused.

This advert only harms Argentina. Continued broadcasts or new ads of the same theme will just cause more damage and may well get Argentina removed from the Olympics. Pulling this ad is the best thing they can do but if they wish to continue there will be consequences that cannot be blamed on anyone else (although I'm sure CFK will try).

I'm sure Guzz and Uruguayan are not Uruguayans at all, orf if they are they live in Argentina and are getting paid for their posts. The great majority of us Uruguayans are more than a little angry with Argentina today, because the bogus environmentalists of Gualeguaychú once again blockaded an international bridge, the Buenos Aires gov't have for the umpteenth time delayed the dredging of the Martín García channel and because their ambassador in Montevideo is yet another vacuous loudmouth. Even Astori, the Uruguayan vice-president, has admitted that Mujica's policy of appeasement of Argentina has only caused them to become even more belligerent. Falklanders: the Uruguayan experience is very clear: try to have as little as possible to do with Argentina.

    @196 - Boovis.

I don't think we need to worry for several reasons.

    1. Argentina haven't got any assets to invade with.
    2. The Typhoons stationed there could blow any ship out of the water and any aircraft out of the sky.
    3. There are over a thousand troops on the island. Last time 70 Royal Marine's with a handful of RN personnel kept the Argentine's best troops pinned down, and only surrendered when the Argentines brought in artillery. So how tough a time do you think they'll have against 1,200 members of the Armed Forces.
    4. There may or may not be a nuclear sub tooling around the South Atlantic (no one but Fleet knows for sure), and all it took last time was the sinking of one ship and the Argentine Navy was paralysed.
    5. HMS Dauntless could destroy the entire Argentine Airforce single handedly.

So I think the Falklands are safe from Impotent Argentine threats.

And if they did somehow succeed in taking the Islands, well see post 200, cLOHO, spells it out nicely, except it wasn't mentioned that the Argentine troops would be facing battle-hardened troops. The Gurkha's, Paras and the Royals would all love to have another crack at the Argies, should they ever be so stupid to try this again.

I wouldn't fancy facing battle hardened UK soldiers fresh from Afghanistan. In 1978 Argentina came very close to annihilating Chile’s southern fleet. We had practically no air defense. When I entered as a midshipman in the mid-80’s the national objective was to never allow that to happen again. (Similar to the U.K.) Today, we could easily simultaneously annihilate Peru, Bolivia and Argentina’s forces as well as secure strategic areas without serious concerns of a counterattack. We have a good military, but the truth is that Argentina has a terrible-poorly equipped-corrupt one. (Currently at least two of their German frigates are inoperable as their Rolls Royce turbans were grossly poorly maintained.)

Thankfully there is a “silver lining” to this disgrace. All the Argentine “bridge-building” by CFK to Falklands community has been completely destroyed. I doubt we’ll see another Falklands marathon with Argentines being invited.

Cristina, with her thuggish nationalization of YPF, her rabid encouragement of the La Campora attacks against European offices in Buenos Aires and the continued use of a crazy mad cow ambassadress only serves to hurt them. (It will destroy their economy as well.)

Twenty years from now, the citizens of the Falklands will probably have a similar status of the Channel Islands with the highest per capita income in the world. Argentina, will continue to be the country that could have been great, but instead choose to continue in their Peronist nightmare of corruption and chaos…

Of course the one's to truly suffer will be the Argentine athlete's who have been preparing for years for this event.

If they don't get banned then, I've no doubt that El Presidente is hatching some plot to disrupt the games. But if she does, it will be the final nail in the coffin for the Argentines on the international stage.

Argentines would send teachers to the islands to teach Spanish, but did not want to change the way of life“ insisting the islands had to be ”given back to Latin America as a whole“. Whatever the outcome it MUST be an IOC decision. Any involvement by the UK government allows KFC and her cronies to once again attempt to distort the facts and play the victim. Fortunately each time KFC, Timerman and now Castro in London open their mouths the eyes of the international community are opened ever wider to the desperate, irrational behaviour of these people and the threat that pose to the islanders.

Argentina is a product of colonialism, conquered by the sword, most of the natives killed and infected by disease, their land taken from them and worked by imported African slaves, oversean by imported European colonials. The African's who made up 50% of the population would themselves completely disapear from Argentina between 1850-1900 in what could have been a chilling fore runner to the disareances of the Dirty War in the 1970's when an estimated 30,000 Argentines were raped, tortured and murdered, many more were held illegally in detention camps and tortured. The true figure for the dead could be as high as 100,000, no one knows because there is little official documentation and most bodies were dumped in the sea.

Argentina took land from its neighbours in numberous wars , civil wars and land grabs - Paraguay, Uraguay, Chile. Today Argentina despite the changed political landscape is still a nation characterised by uber nationalism. The claim to the Falklands was surendered in 1850 but reserected in 1941 by a fascist junta, which inc Peron, they thought their friends the Nazi were going to win the war, the Falklands looked easy picking.

In 1982 Argentina was under the latest succession of a series of fascism military junta's. Their hold on power was looking precarious, in deperation they sort a war, Chile looked like a good victim, they already claimed lots of land and were ignoring the international tribunals that had ruled in Chile's favor. But then they changed their mind and invaded the Falklands. Today the war is romanticized by a nation ruled by a kind of cross between a Neo-Nazi uber nationalist and a Charvesta Revolutionary uber Marxist. The only thing missing is the land reform. Maybe that's for later? But as few natives remain, maybe they'll just ignore their rights... God knows they always have. An entire culture replaced by a European one. Entire languages destroyed.

Timmerman should take time to read about his country's history.

As I've said before the IOC “non-political” stance is nothing but a cover for its very political support for those in power against any challenge to the status quo. In 1968 they refused to criticise the Mexican government for killing hundreds of protesters in Mexico City on the eve of the Games, yet disciplined the African American gold medallists who gave the black power salute (one of them I see is due to give a talk on the Olympics in London soon). In 1972 the head of the IOC gave a speech the day after the massacre of the Israeli team in which he didn't refer to any of the dead athletes but whittered on about how the (successful) campaign to ban the unrecognised aprtheid state of Rhodesia was just as much an attack on the “Olympic spirit” as their killing. Two IOC Presidents, Avery Brundage who was a huge supporter of the Berlin Games and Saramanch who defected from the Republican to the Francoist army in the Spanish Civil War and was a Francoist politician in Spain, have been intimately linked to fascism. So if my Queen is attacked by these bastards, good for her =)
