This is absolutely priceless. What a shambolic mess of a country Argentina really is.
Seriously, we would pay good money for this kind of publicity and the chance to show the world why we really really dont want anything to do with Argentina. And they've picked up the bill themselves. Thanks, guys.

The Argentine Government is the gift that keeps on giving with own goal after own goal after own.
If the athletes play it straight then there will be nothing to worry about but I can't help thinking that if the IOC boot them out for political dirty deeds then the finger of blame will point at the UK and perhaps other countries might back out in sympathy (Venezuela).

Oh dear... now I feel sorry for them. In the heat of exasperation one tends to forget that the general population are actually more to be pitied than blamed.

If Juan Curuchet is truly concerned about his athletes feelings if they are booed during the opening ceremony he should tell Madam President to ditch the “Malvinas Tracksuit” idea.

”And I don’t even want to imagine what could happen and how our athletes could feel if they are booed during the opening ceremony. How can they compete after that?”

Maybe you should have thought about this when you offended the people of the UK, and the people of the Falkland islands with your memorial desecration and demands for land-theft.

I don't think you'll get booed though. No one here gives a furk about your country and their nazi-nonsense.

Unless the Argentine athletes pull a stunt, I am pretty sure they would not be booed.

That said, I have heard opposition fans chanting at Manchester City games to Tevez and Aguero, “The Falklands are ours, The Falklands are our, Fuck off you Argies, The Falklands are ours”.

@6 Does it have a good tune? Did Elgar write it?

'In the hole that you live,
    there's nothing to give,
    all that you be,
    with nothing to see.
    Peron ruined your country,
    and pain you feel dear,
As never will you own them,
    that Falklands lay near.

    Rise up, rise up
    And smite Argtardian foes,
from their silly cream buns and down to their toes,
    rise up, rise up,
    send them running with fear,
    and free they be always,
    the Falklands lay near.”

That's what I'm going to sing, I just wrote it for that moment... now I just need some bagpipes.

Juan Curuchet needs to get more in the national spirit, instead of complaining he should

    1) Confidently state he has no regrets over the video
    2) Claim that it is not direspectful to climb over a war memorial
    3) Deny that the UK has been provoked by the video
    4) Look around to see if there are any foreign owned businesses that could be seized to plug the hole in Argentinas finances
    5) Buy a mask and wooden baton and take to the streets to attack businesses that are beleived to have British connections.

He calls himself a patriot yet he has done none of these things.

You're right though, judging from his twitter account the visa-fraudster himself is getting a lot of positive praise for what danyberger would call 'the typical activities of a BNP member', i.e. desecrating memorials.

not of any rough stuff, but one of humiliation,

if they get booed or intimidated, and feel upset, and cant do what they were trained for, how does that make them feel,
they have train for years for this one in a lifetime, only to have it all ffucked up by a deluded loony .

Maybe the Falklanders should be capitalising on this combination of lies and nonsense, by investing in high quality sports training facilities, where people of different nations can go to train without fearing having their bicycles impounded nor the press breathing down their throats.

Sure has made a mockery of the Olympic spirit though, and if it wasn't prevented by the british resolve to completely and utterly ignore the monkey-business of the Argtards, they deserve to be booed into tears.

CFKC who makes passionate speeches stating that everything she does is for Argentina and the Argentine people. Hmmm. So, the Argentine athletes spend years training and making sacrifices to represent their country, only to find their government withholds vital equipment unless they export goods to a similar value. What madness. What an insult to the Argentine people by the crazy megalomaniac President of Argentina.

Algeria - Crowd cheers and claps
American Samoa - Crowd cheers and claps
Andorra - Crowd cheers and claps

Hey, Guzz, why is your President CFK trying so hard to get Argentina banned from the Olympic games? Why is she denying the Argentinan athletes the equipment they need to train?

Is it to try and distract you fellow countrymen from their empty bellies, and cold houses. If the IOC ban Argentina, will she be blaming everyone else but herself? Is she going to pull the victim card on more time?

No booing, no clapping, no standing for their national anthem (should they actually win anything). Just pretend that they're not even there.

I also have sympathy for the mostly genuine sportsmen and women in the Arg team - only an Arg Govt can be this stupid!!
CFK is playing with fire by repeating the video clip shows after a polite warning from the I.O.C.!! It can only be that she actually WANTS the Arg Team to be disqualified and barred!
All the Falklands and UK need to do is quietly sit back and watch - she started it- we have the moral high ground and the Int support in this case. If she wants to dig a hole - then thats her problem.
I would hope that if they do go to London that their team are not booed - that is not sporting at all and the rest of us I hope are above CFK,s level, and whatever happens will not be the fault of those athletes- with one exception of course!

@35 I completely agree. The athletes are the losers here, also the Argentinean public. I am sure, with a few exceptions, everyone wants to see their team compete and do well in the Olympics. Why does CFK have to put the Falklands issue in everything? Is that really what Argentines want, for this issue to be in the press everyday?
From here in Chile, like it must do to most of the world, it seems absurd. We have a similar problem with Bolivia - they turn everything into a question about access to the sea (lost in 1879 war). Just stop. We can't turn the clock back. Chile, Brazil and now Peru and Colombia are surging forward, growing, modernizing, while the Chavez group, which now seems to include Argentina are going backwards. We want Argentina to prosper, it is a great country with great people, but why do they always fall in to the same trap?

@51 Sorry to be a bore but of the Argentines eligible to vote, one third did not bother, just under one third voted for other candidate and just over one third voted for CFKC. We have seen evidence posted here that many that voted for CFKC were paid to vote that way. You could easily argue that the Argentines get what they deserve but there are many good people in that country feeling overwhelmed by a corrupt system, lawless society, unfair voting tactics and cannot see a viable alternative to vote for. Just sayin'.

It has been brought up in another thread but there is a very interesting article in Clarin where max-sized Maximo's youth army have been caught out tweeting support for CFKC under multiple ID's giving the impression of much greater support for her than is reality.

Absolutely true Elaine. Kretina was actually voted for by 36.2% of the electorate, not the famous 54.11% that the Kretinistas are always blathering about.

Somewhere between 2 and 4 million illegal immigrants were given national documents before the election and paid ARS $50 per vote.

This is why it is impossible for the true patriots, not nationalists, can't hope to get rid of the peronist plague.

Your really scraping the bottom of the barrell this time Slimon. Blaming immigrants? In Argentina, a country of immigrants?! Your having a laugh. At least thats another similarity between Cristina and Britain's George Galloway - both have been accused, falsely, of relying on the “immigrant vote”! =)

And who give them more right then our own nations. They were mostly at home doing their own thing. Meanwhile Nestor and Kretina were cozying up to the dictators in Santa Cruz and making money out of usery.

I might add that a lot of Brits were denouncing the junta while we Argentines were keeping quiet, so really we have little to grumble about.

I believe that CFK is trying to get Argentina banned. She, or her government, don't care about the dreams of a couple of hundred people.

If they are banned, then CFK can pull the victim card and blame the evil, imperialist British for it.

The IOC need to be careful.

If they ignore these politiced provocation by Argentina, other countries may try to use the games to vent their spleen. Also what if the Argentine's try to politicise it further by a deliberate provocation at the opening ceremony?

The Argentine Olympic Committee can promise that their athletes won't do this, but they alo didn't know about the illegal adverts either.

The government of Argentina has no problem breaking their word, so it's probably safest to ban them from the games.

Well you are both right. It is a linguistic problem. To English Speakers “America” is the USA. To Spanish speakers “America” is the continent. It is a linguistic error in English that is due to history. Much like a similar error in Spanish where spanish speakers refer to the UK as “Inglaterra” ignoring the existance of Scotland, Wales and Northern Island.

    Your Most Exalted Excellency,
I am writing in response to your continued demands for the transfer of sovereignty of the Falkland Islands .
Having consulted with my colleagues, the British readers of the Daily Telegraph and the Falklands Islands legislature, I am afraid your request has been refused.
However, being British, magnanimous and fair , we cannot see you leave the negotiating table empty handed.
HM The Queen has graciously commanded that henceforth, Liverpool and its dependencies, Widnes and Runcorn , will be ceded to Argentina in perpetuity.
The population of Liverpool is very similar to the rest of the Argentine people, so will assimilate very quickly.
You will also be pleased to know that the whole of Ireland is on Liverpool's continental shelf, so you will no doubt be claiming that as well, especially since a great part of the Spanish armada was wrecked off the Irish coast, which automatically makes it Argentine territory.
The owners of Liverpool FC and Everton FC have confirmed they are looking forward to playing in the Belgrano League, though they admit away matches will be a bit of a strain.
It's only fair to warn you that buying the votes of scousers will cost you a little more than votes in Lanus or Avellaneda.
They will expect a council house, £300 pw, a pair of white trainers and a Plasma TV.
As a thank you to your good self in being so patient with us, Her Majesty has graciously presented you with some Harrods gift vouchers, a William & Kate souvenir pack with a mug, tea towel and DVD and a brown envelope containing an unspecified amount of cash in US dollars.

Get your fat ass out of the couch and do some exercise.

Argentina is a product of colonialism, conquered by the sword, most of the natives killed and infected by disease, their land taken from them and worked by imported African slaves, oversean by imported European colonials. The African's who made up 50% of the population would themselves completely disapear from Argentina between 1850-1900 in what could have been a chilling fore runner to the disareances of the Dirty War in the 1970's when an estimated 30,000 Argentines were raped, tortured and murdered, many more were held illegally in detention camps and tortured. The true figure for the dead could be as high as 100,000, no one knows because there is little official documentation and most bodies were dumped in the sea.

Argentina took land from its neighbours in numberous wars , civil wars and land grabs - Paraguay, Uraguay, Chile. Today Argentina despite the changed political landscape is still a nation characterised by uber nationalism. The claim to the Falklands was surendered in 1850 but reserected in 1941 by a fascist junta, which inc Peron, they thought their friends the Nazi were going to win the war, the Falklands looked easy picking.

In 1982 Argentina was under the latest succession of a series of fascism military junta's. Their hold on power was looking precarious, in deperation they sort a war, Chile looked like a good victim, they already claimed lots of land and were ignoring the international tribunals that had ruled in Chile's favor. But then they changed their mind and invaded the Falklands. Today the war is romanticized by a nation ruled by a kind of cross between a Neo-Nazi uber nationalist and a Charvesta Revolutionary uber Marxist. The only thing missing is the land reform. Maybe that's for later? But as few natives remain, maybe they'll just ignore their rights... God knows they always have. An entire culture replaced by a European one. Entire languages destroyed.

The Brits still believe anyone in Argentina cares about the Olympics.

Charming parrochialism. Most if asked don't even know where they are being held.

If Argentina does not care about the games, then why bother with the propaganda film in the first place?

    QED!

Exactly because we don't care. If we get sanctioned, no one will bat an eye of sleep (except maybe for the basketball tourney).

Argentina would NEVER do this for a world cup, be it football, rugby, or other.

When confronted with the truth, the above response is what you get. Weak, and with no pushback. Not your fault, there is nothing you can say since I'm just telling you the facts, what you gonna do.

I sincerely hope Argentina either boycotts or get sanctioned from the games. And most people either think my way or don't even care about the issue.

Weren't you planning to call it the General Belgrano League? That seems to be football related. I still think the Glug Glug Glug League would have been more fitting.

@113 “And most people either think my way or don't even care about the issue.” Wow you must have had a really busy day taking a poll of 40 million people in between babbling on here. Even if your self-important baseless assumptions were correct, I'm sure that after years of preparation the athletes care and it's just a typical example of Argie contempt and lack of decency that the country's attitude is basically “who gives a shit about them?”.

What about the athletes from the 1916, 1940, and 1944.

Oh that's right, you savages were busy killing each other. Complete lack of decency is the typical British, European, and non-argentine way really.

With the added “quality” of unrepressed hypocrisy. Lovely.

I have just done a poll on the 32 people in my old office (I'm a pensioner) about the Olimpic Games:

Interested in seeing the Games on TV: 31
Not interested in the Games: 1

BTW I don't live in a large city, we are about 14000 inhabitants in northern Patagonia.

I just finished in my university class (young people, who are the coveted television viewing group, not senior citizens from a different era), using more modern texting poll:

Interested in seeing the games: 3
    Not interested: 11

BTW I live in a lage city, about a million people with a far better cross-representation of society.

Bloody hell - I drive past the Olympic park twice a day and I'm not really interested in them at all. If you polled my office they'd be more concerned about disruption than actually watching any of it.

When we won the bid in 2005 the prevailing attitude to it was “now we've beaten the French and been awarded the games shall we just let them have it because we can't be bothered”

I'm not kidding - the general populace is totally apathetic about it.

Might perk up once it actually starts - but most are more interested in the European football championships.

Given the visceral, vitriolic reactions of the past days when I have said that in comparison to sport world cups (mainly football and rugby, or the Davis Cup) argies are incurious about the Olympics, it suggests otherwise.

I also said we do care about Olympic basketball because that is the “world cup” of the sport, and to a lesser extent field hockey though it has its world cup.

So we would care about the basketball, but Argentina is not a country that cares much about individual sports, which most Olmypic competitions are.

Notice how I never said that is good or bad, I only have restated the facts. I have nothing personally against the sports themselves, which are all wonderful to play and engage in. That doesn't mean the fact remains most people give fkall about it.

Cities bid for the Olympics as an act of jingoism and machismo, that's a fact. A “see, I can do this” kind of attitude. Olympic games much more than world cups are a huge financial pit because all the infraestructure is concetrated in one city and 90% of the venues are marginal sports which means the facilites will be woefully underused in their usable lifetimes.

World cups on the other hand spread the infraestructure, attract many more fans per venue and due to stadium capacity, and the stadia will have far greater bang for the buck in their lifetime.

Don't think the Argentinians will get booed, the Olympics are too important for that kind of silliness. But if they do, its only a bit of booing, Fernando should toughen up a bit and get on with it.
Brits are far too polite to boo but there will be quite a few Spanish attending the games who are not as nice.

Great commercial, beautiful place Islas Malvinas Argentina, too bad it's full of squatters and brtish illegal aliens. I wonder why OIC never defends Mexican illegal aliens, could it be because they are latinos and poor??? O yea that's why they are building the great Wall of USA and OIC is looking towards Argentina I forgot the OIC is ruled by the KKK.

@118 - Tobias . Athletes in 1940 and 44 from the Uk and other allied countries died to stop fascism, genocide and evil behyond comprehension. I am proud that we stood up to Hitler, Tojo and Mussolini. 1916 was not so clear cut - but the Germans were not the most pleasant of people. Ask the Beligians.

Personally I normally enjoy the olympics, but I can't get enthusiastic about London 2012 either. There is more to the UK than London. The Labour govt that got the games for us were happy to spend our cash on trivia, until we had none left..................

To me it's just bread and circuses, so that the political elite along with seb co and his cronies can have a massive jolly at our expense. At a time of asuterity the last thing I want my country to purchase is a a set of white elephants like the olympic stadium.

You have to understand I have to fight fire with more fire. If 90% of people here speak utter bunkum and irrepresed nonsense, fibs, and scurrilous responses I have to respond in kind.

I have said it here repeatedly WWII was more of a black/white morality war, while WWI to me just was the Germans/French/British/Italians/Austrio-Hungarians just trying to prove who had thicker balls.

#109 I've not even heard of most of those women, of the ones I have I don't particularly like Mary I, don't know enough about Bathory to comment (I heard somewhere she wasn't as bad as people said, there was a revisionist movie about her in the cinemas recently but I didn't go) and of course hate Myra if you mean Myra Hindley. Heres a partial and area specific list of some of my real favorite women:

    Reina Cristina
    Michelle
    Dilma

My Queen is in good company indeed. Unlike yourself; Pinochet aint coming back

@130 Tobias Tell me about ww1!! I have read dozens of books on the subject and each one lays the blame in different proportions to the various parties............

Just be glad that your country did'nt get sucked in. People over here forget we lost more servicemen in 1914-18 than 39-45.
