How can Argentina have a defence budget? They only speak of peace and peaceful ways, surely they should back this up by abandoning all weapons and being all hippy-like?

Do South American nations really still worry about war kicking off among themselves?

I think they worry with the fact that history, in the long-term, is unpredictable.

Apparently Uruguay was worried about war with Argentina over the paper mill dispute. I suppose if they can fight over that they can fight over anything.

The one thing we should all learn about history is that we never really learn from history!

Peace is ensured in the Falklands by keeping a military base there, maybe we should make it more peaceful and double the contingent there, then it'll be really safe.

I think the WOP Argie is setting the others up to fight the war on the Argies behalf.

This has been alluded to by Timmidman: they are very good at fighting to the last drop of blood of their friends.

The meeting could also be a chance for them to play with lead soldiers, these being the ones that don't run away when faced with 3 Para.

    Useless twats all of them.

Bit of a shambles but the government ha snow reversed its original decision and will now buy these jump jets for our new carriers:

Also speculation remains as to whether this plane is now in service with the UK or not:

Do the RG's contribute anywhere to the UN's peace keeping efforts?

@11 They provide a few people, but very little equipment. They then try to get other people to buy them equipment so they can do the UN work without having to invest any actual money into doing it.

Boovis and other posts show you don’t have any idea about military budgets. I recommend all of you to have a look at the website of the Sipri (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute)http://www.sipri.org/ and you will find who is spending in weapons and military technology. You will find the UK well on the top positions. The “argies” are just spending on personnel. I know you are far from the “World”, but you still need to learn many things before to give an opinion on military spending.

quite interesting that site. i note that the UK spends almost as much on weapons as Russia which is quite staggering. also note that south america is decreasing its military spend.

As Taranis is sheduled to begin flight testing in 2012/2013, it's obviously isn't going to be in service right now. I can't think of any aviation projects that have been adopted into service without considerable flight testing being done on it before.

Rob there are rumours that it is already flying. Sighted over turkey and somewhere else are the reports I read.

As regards military expenditure i note that the Uk spends more on military than the whole of south america.

Its ironic that as Argentina reduces its military expenditure it then asks for help from others. the reason of course that it is reducing its expenditure is that Cretina is terrified of a military coup.

Harsh words suffice - ha, ha.

    @18

Could you link any of these reports? I haven't heard any rumours.

Argentinas defence budget is actually expanding, it's due to expand up to 1.3% of it's GDP in 2015 and then up to 1.5% in an 'unspecified period'

    http://en.mercopress.com/2011/03/08/argentina-s-defence-budget-forecasted-to-reach-1.3-of-gdp-by-2015

Although it does say the majority will go to increasing pay so.

Come back when you gain basic literacy skills to communicate your point effectively, 'either way they are going to give it back to the uk', give what back? The carriers? The fighters? The money? If you mean the money then you clearly don't understand the concept of a defence budget.

    TARANIS
IS NOT IN SERVICE WITH THE BRITISH MILITARY, AS OF 2012 .

BUT THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT WAS OFFERED, AND LOOKED INTO THE
    X-47B unmanned combat air programme.

But STOVL carriers will make any development in this direction impossible, since the UCAV is, you guess it, a CATOBAR [ cat & trap]
    mmmmmmm
    .

Nobody knows what is being spent on Argentina´s military. The article says the budgets are open to their “peers”. Aegentina does not believe it has ANY peer.
