After a day of intense trading in the ‘blue’ (informal) market for US dollars which reached a new high of 5.50 Pesos, Argentine President Cristina Fernández assured on Tuesday evening that there will be no economic ‘shocks’ or a ‘system of multiple exchange rates’ as “has been rumoured during the whole day”. In socialist countries there is greater inequality and that is a fact. The poor have no way of improving thier lot as they are not able to adequatly moneterise their talents.

May 16th, 2012 - 08:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0I'm amazed! She's finally said something we can all agree with. Please do not believe anything. And there you have it. Straight from the horse's mouth, as we British would say. Never a truer word.
May 16th, 2012 - 08:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0Let's note this article and CFK's words, people. It will be important to remind certain argie bloggers that she told us all not to believe anything. Did we have any doubt? Were we ever inclined to believe anything she said? But confirmation is nice!
Can an Argie tell me why CFK only feels able to speak in front of supporters and her version of the Hitler youth. Why can't she stand up to independent journalistic scrutiny?
May 16th, 2012 - 09:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0You make fun of her, but she said something so important its the essence and heart of everything economic.

There may be a few fits and starts but this is the beginning of a big devaluation.
May 16th, 2012 - 10:53 am - Link - Report abuse 0CFK will try to have AFIP tighten controls even more but it won't work in the end.
They will have to devalue the peso to above the leak rate of 6/1 to get this under control. I'm thinking 10/1 soon and then 14-16/1 after the panic sets in.
Watch all the Rgs savings evaporate in a day or so...
Good luck Argentinians you are heading back to the future. On the other hand this may be an opportunity. Once the collapse of your state capitalism takes place and wipes out everyone, there will be a window of opportunity to copy our sustainable economic model. Peru did and look at them, they are flying along. Once again good luck and don't let the door hit you as you leave the ranks of the emerging economies for your new spot in the third world.

Very well said my Queen =) Especially liked the brilliant analysis of the folly of austerity and the perpetual crisis its causing. @23 What she fundamentally doesn't seem to understand about austerity is it's about not paying for massive government departments that do furk-all all day but shuffle paper and play minesweeper, and not paying for massive sh!t programmes that get 90% through and 400% over budget before before ending in massive unmitigated FAIL. Then people pay less unecessary tax and can afford to go out and spend more in the shops on nice bras.
May 16th, 2012 - 12:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Nouveau-labour or any government spending on ridiculously massive IT programmes doesn't get the economy moving, it just makes IT companies increase their day-rates, and offshore the extra money to the Caymans. Better not to do the programme in the first place and fill the whole in your pension pot.
It's that furking simple, folks.
@24 Don't forget all the people on the payroll that don't even have to turn up for a few hours to play minesweeper. They turn up only on pay day to collect just so the employment figures look better.
May 16th, 2012 - 01:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It's true that austerity is compounding the problem for Greece but the problem is that they spent the money and allowing them to continue living the high life would reward their irresponsible spending encouraging a future repeat. I have just picked myself up off the floor after LMFAO. Thanks Chic, that is the best translation for the past few days.
As for the article: What a load of codswallop. She didn't speak the truth once except to mention Kicilloff's 4 or 5 exchange rates, which he DID talk about. The rest is BS. We are on our way down the tubes, the parallel dollar is at 6/1 so the next stop is hyperinflation.
All I can say is thanks for the laugh, Chic, it is probably the last for a good while.
British_Kirchnerist what do you add to this forum other than sycophantic nonsense?
May 16th, 2012 - 01:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I asked you a simple question yesterday along these lines.
Q. How does CFKs vast and ever increasing wealth and aspirations for wealth sit with her supposed socialist ideals when the President of Uruguay for example demonstrates that it is possible to be head of state and live humbly?
Don't tell me its because Uruguay is a much smaller country.
British Kirchnerist is a comedy parody of someone - I just haven't worked out who yet.
May 16th, 2012 - 01:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@25 Don't forget those incredibly brittle uncivil-servants who laugh in the pub about playing minesweeper all day and yet getting a great final-salary pension at the end, and yet should one happen to reprimand them for doing sweet-FA they say you're picking on them and get signed off on stress leave for 16 weeks, returning to a ring-fenced position where you cannot sack them because you know they suffer from stress.

Make hay while the sun shines, so to speak. At least someone should get the benefit of Kretina's madness. It's only right that our SA brothers get a good deal on their Winter holidays. The only trouble is that as problems usually come in threes, there will probably be no snow in the cordillera this winter. My elder son is a ski instructor and a fishing guide, and says that when the Summer is good for guiding the following Winter will be bad for skiing. He had a good Summer.

Nationalism doesn't allow room for humility and so they won't learn from there mistakes and ways to improve from others. Same old same old.

The director of the Institute for the Promotion of Argentine Beef (IPVCA), Dardo Chiesa, in a 2009 interview declared that 75% of beef intended for domestic consumption came from feedlots.
Theoretically it is possible to buy grass-finished beef in Argentina; the problem is telling the difference between grass-fed and grain-fed. Beef intended for local consumption is not labelled, marked, tagged, or graded in any way

The most disreputable people are those with an utterly clear bias and agenda, which they don't hide, but then in the same instant will tell you to be fair on the matter they have a bias to/against, and call other people unreasonable if they don't agree with them.

May 17th, 2012 - 12:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yes Maradona is disgrace to the nation and I would like to see him banished to a far off island where we wouldn’t have to hear his lunatic ramblings anymore. He singlehandedly wrecked our last world cup and for that he is a traitor and should be treated as such.
Someone is talking to himself... what a loser!!! hahahahaha.
May 17th, 2012 - 12:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0Its the voices, I can't make them go away! ahahahahaha
May 17th, 2012 - 12:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0Oh, it's me talking to myself.
Greekyoghurt, NHS cutting budget didn't ship you the meds?? Now you really totally lost it and I doubt I'm that influential to have caused you to go unhinged. It must be the austerity.
May 17th, 2012 - 12:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0Now I am confused. I have been smoking some weed but I thought I was alright.

May 17th, 2012 - 04:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0You say:
”52 Think - tell you what, if the annual equivalent inflation rate (Not the official INDEC rate, but a legit well-researched measure) hasn't hit 100% by 1 September, I'll apologise and genuinely donate £10 to the charity of your choice. If I 'win' I won't ask you to reciprocate the donation, for obvious reasons. But I will reserve the right to ask you to write “I was wrong, our economy is collapsing”. Deal?”
I say:
It's a deal.....
The Red Cross will do fine...
I expect you to keep your word and revert in September....

May 17th, 2012 - 05:46 am - Link - Report abuse 0He singlehandedly wrecked our World Cup in '86 as well if you recall! Although his second goal was, unfortunately, sublime..
@83 Think - OK. Red Cross it would be (good choice).
May 17th, 2012 - 09:56 am - Link - Report abuse 0To be honest, I hope I'm proven wrong by a very wide margin. We're talking about economic collapse here, so it's certainly not something I'd gloat over.

May 17th, 2012 - 01:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think you are about right that the peso will have devalued 20% by October. But is unlikely to improve competiveness.
The weak peso will make imported fuel more expensive, pushing inflation even higher. Arg exports will be hampered by the retaliatory measures an increasing number of countries will take against Argentina.
You say it is not dramatic, but it is not good either. Right now all commodity driven economies, that have been sensibly managed, are booming. Argentina is not. It is one thing to be a patriot, but I don’t understand the denial.

Careful with the use of patriot when responding to my countrymen, there is a very real confusion in Argentina over the meaning of patriotism and nationalism, the tendency is to call oneself a patriot when really showing only nationalism.
Nationalists see their country as always right, whatever the circumstances whereas patriots can see that their country can, and sometimes does, make mistakes, and so can admit it when they're wrong.
We Argentines find it very hard to admit we are ever wrong!!

May 17th, 2012 - 04:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I will not waste any of our valuable time responding to doomsdays prophecies....
Let me just say that, compared with 2001, Argentina’s momentaneous financial dire straits are a piece of cake.
About being Nationalistic or Patriotic....
I'm neither.
But I do like my People, my Country and my Continent...
And I want the best for all of them……., not just for My Specific Class if you get what I mean....

May 17th, 2012 - 04:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I hope you are right.
I like your people, your country and our continent...but not your govt.
