Venezuela has taken the Unasur secretary general post from Colombia during a ceremony last Monday held in Bogotá with the attendance of Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos and his Paraguayan counterpart Fernando Lugo. Read full article

Skeptical - energy integration with Venezuela involved will amount to control by Hugo Chávez - or his successors. And the Venezuelan regime has had since 1998 to reduce poverty, but seems to have missed out on what poor Venezuelans value - freedom from violent crime. Reducing corruption would do more to reduce poverty than fine words like “having the human being as the focus of all decisions”. As long as those human beings are the politicians' friends, they'll continue to be the focus.
