Mark Lyall Grant is just the man to deal with this. He made Timmerman look ridiculous at his showing a few months ago. Argentina is both naive and inept when it deals with the UN.

I hope we get to see the bunfight live: http://webtv.un.org/live-now/

The outcome of the Argentine operation was over 900 people dead, massive destruction, rattled other South American countries with border disputes with Argentina and definitively convinced the Falklands population Argentines can’t be trusted.

The UN have got way more pressing matters to deal with, Syria for a kick-off, than to pander to this neurotic woman with questionable mental capacity. I'm sure the Bolivian chairman has already said its a sovereignty issue and not one of colonisation. Therefore this committee has no jurisdiction over this situation at all. Piss and wind!

On one hand she complains the UK will not be sending a minister knowing full well he is attending the liberation day ceromonies in the islands. If you needed any more evidence how far she will go to lie and cheat her way into being heard this is it. She doed not care about anything other than her own wealth and poltical power. Who is this guy Betts?

    Jun 14th, 2012 - 08:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0

Alejandro Betts turned on the islanders during the conflict and basically became an argentine informant who pointed out all the important people so they could be rounded up by the invaders.

Clearly since then no one has liked him and he fled to go and live in his new country Argentina, but he's basically a very very bitter man who just says nothing but bitterness.

    c) She said she just wanted to talk, but their constitution says otherwise.

Some bits that made me fall about laughing were the 1806 and 1807 Brit attacka on B.A. - lady we all - end even you - know that there was NO Argentina then - just a Colony of Spain - with whom Britain was at war!! Hell UK-France-Sapin-Holland were all fighting each other between 1780 and 1815 - some Caribbean Islands changed hands almost weekly!!!
1806 and 1807 had ZERO to do with the Falklands and she and the world know it - so she just makes abigger arse out of herself!
And then its the Falklands Flag at 10 Downing St!!! Lady USA and Japan are no longer at war and are friends- had you not realised that yet??
Can you say the same about Argentina and the Islands in 2012? - err umm - and who is the cause of the current tension - who is threatening who? - err - umm?

    GreekYoghurt:

Thanks - your info about Betts answers a question I had about the Rattenbach report on Argentina's botched Falklands invasion, because as I recall, news was that it hid name of a Falkland Islander who had collaborated with the invading forces.

Although Betts today didn't say more than he left the Falklands because he was discriminated against for his pro-Argentine views, obviously, if he was an overt collaborator with the invaders, he should have left with them. However, saying one agrees with the Argentine invaders implies agreeing with the fascist Military Junta as well.

However, Penguin News deputy editor John Fowler dished on Betts that he left his second wife and kids in the Falklands so he could take up with an Argentine woman.

And give the 16 colonies, back to whoever wants them, with or without there permission or rights,
It does not matter; it seems that they will become colonies of who ever takes them,

Actually for the most part that committee simply nodded sleepily and droned a platitude about “settling things peacefully”, as was the reaction of Russia and China. Both Papua new Guinea and Sierra Leon supported the islanders, Brazil barely gave argentina anything other than asking britain to be nice to argentina, and the only nations which gave any real support to argentina were Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, which works quite nicely for us.

All in all it ammounts to a whole pile of nothing, with zero importance or credibility, especially given Syria's presence and babbling tirade.

You think the West is a democracy, or better yet, interested in the welfare of others?

The only difference between the C24 tin-pots and the West is the tin-pots just say things out loud; the West has the same set of values in their core but merely ensconces them in crude veneers of Enlightement propaganda.

The West is far, far, FAR, from the ideals of mercantilism, true liberalism, and intellectualism.

You do realize NO ONE wants to migrate to Europe or the USA anymore right? Migration from Europe has REVERSED from South America. And there is virtually no one going to the USA. In fact is it so bad even the Mexicans have stopped going, first time in 40 years.

Why don't you post scholarly evidence to suggest “South America” will be going to war in a few years? Argentina at least won't, all our land borders are settled (one of a handful of countries in the world, compare the rest of South and North America and Europe which still have bureaucracies brimming with litigious border squabbles).

Tyranny befell the Kurds because once upon a time a foreign power decided to carve out preposterous borders, and shoehorn facticious nationalities upon them.

Imagine Argentina creating a nation out of southern Ireland, Britain, and nothern France. Another one out of Denmark, western Poland and northern Germany. Another from Southern Germany, Swizerland, Italy and Albania; take Spain and plug it to Occitan and northern Morocco.

Even without such fantastical borders Europeans slaughtered each other for the initial 50 years of XX. Give credit to the Arabs, they've done much better given the circumstances forced upon them.

    I love this:

“Argentine Foreign Affairs ministry resists the idea because ”you can't take to the ICJ a case over which you consider to have full rights“.”

    - that is exactly the case one would take to the ICJ, a dead cert to be won - so why don't they show the world they have justice on their side?

Because Argentine president Domingo F. Sarmiento acknowledged in 1869 that Argentina the islands were not Argentine?
    - thus making it a dead cert looser case.

Timmerman came out withthe usual crap but not Mike Summers and Lyall who nailed the lie about 1833 and produced the 1850 settlement. Oh and thanks to one of the bloggers here I saw something interesting on wiki(if it is true)-In the 1833 incident 80% of the UPotRP militia expelled were BRITISH mercenaries. If this is trueand I haven't sourced this-then in 1833, most of the civilian population on the FIs were from UPotRP who wanted to STAY under British sovereignity, and the militia actually expelled were mostly British!!!That really makes the Argentine accusation that we chucked'their' people off even more hilarious!!!!
The reason why the UPotRP garrison did not fight Onslow and co was because they refuse d to fight their British brethren!!! If this is true it just gets better and better anfd the RGs case more and more ridiculous!!!! LOL

Get a grip on Argentine history.

Interspersed by at least 7 civil and military dictatorships Argentina has enjoyed:

una larga serie de sangrientas guerras civiles entre facciones y provincias (1820-1861)
Guerra con el Imperio del Brasil (1825-1828)
la Guerra de la Triple Alianza 1865-1872
    Guierilla- and dirty war 1973-1983
la Guerra de las Malvinas 1982

All of them no doubt very peaceful bloody wars and dictatorships.

An academic would suggest she cannot construct a reasonable argument, but who cares when you're in front of the world's most ridiculous committee.

@126 I read something similar, based upon British mercenaries making up a considerable portion of the Argentine and Chilean navy's at the time. There are many occasions where they have refused to fire on fellow British.

Their history is a lie, they cannot even perform simple academic analysis of what is clearly outstanding historical fact refuting most of their comments.

Instead they have the words of a bitter traitor, a mills and boon author who clearly is upset that his family didn't get to steal the islands making him rich, and some ranting harridan.
