Disclaimer & comment rulesWhat is really needed is the tight protocols that manage the operation of the free trade zone and its dealings with trading partners outside their zone. It is woefully underdeveloped, even after these years.

And if two or three hundred of the key traded commodities are placed outside the agreements, one has to wonder if the zone is worth the candle. These are not weapons with which to fight other nations within Mercosur.
Perhaps the key issue is what to do with a partner when the bottom falls out of its economic existence. Argentina finds itself in a position akin to Greece within the Eurozone. Will protocols be written in such that Brasil and Venezuela will underwrite Argentina's economy and debts? And would such words be adhered to?
I have my doubts about both.
#1 I really don't think Brazil and Venezuela will treat Argentina like the EU treats Greece! Even in the utterly hypothetical scenario of a weak Argentina
