The Americans are probably glad that Brazil and Co will have to put up with his nonsense from now on and probably see him a a spanner in the works of an organisation that didn't work very well anyway.

Chavez says ... Venezuela joins Mercosur “full of passion, strength, will and desire to fully integrate the group” and through a democratic mature process “to transform the economic model of the country (VE)”.

    Fine words.

He has a stated desire to make Merosur a politicised unity with a combined military presence from Antarctica to the Caribbean.
Perhaps this is what he means by 'integration', as much as trading policy and practices.

He has declared his wish to join a trading group, but his very first statements are to move things WAY BEYOND trade.

I understand that he is ill and has very little time left,
but the process that happened in China took thousands of years, in the USA hundreds of years, and in Europe ... decades, to date, is to be accelerated for these countries of South America.

    This is not possible,
given the huge disparities present within the partnership, and even greater disparities once Chavez manipulates his Bolivarian ALBA (Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América) rag-bag into the 'Mercosur' bloc.
He should learn from the contemporary history of the EU/Eurozone (and Napoleon, etc, approaching Moscow), that over-reaching is a 'bad thing'.

Pst! The U.S. Dept. of State has to play “Good Cop”, but obviously “Bad Cop USA” is foaming out of the mouth: This is a pivotal set-back for U.S.&NATO strategy to roll back the emerging “independent” block: Brazil-Argentina-Uruguay-Venezuela-Bolivia-Ecuador-Nicaraguay, which organizes also some other nations in Latin America towards more “independence”. There is another factor: Venezuela has friendly elements in U.S. Congress - because CITGO - the oil conglomerate in the U.S. is owned by Venezuela, and CITGO donates each winter free heating oil to 200,000 poor households in the USA (and Indian reservantions) - and the U.S. Congress Representatives from those districts are obviously interested in “good relations with Venezuela”. The oil donated by Venezuela to the poor 200,000 households in the USA - is distributed by “Citizens Energy Corporations”(non profit corporation) founded and directed by Josepf Kennedy, nephew of the late President J.F. Kennedy.

Does Brown's kind words need saying or does he mean Cuba also, and that Latin American states have the USA's blessing to progress to uniting the continent.Or will they revert to the usual covert destabilising methods while poseing as friendly.Mao knew all about those stunts of interfering in the internal affairs of other state.
    Brown's words are empty words.

No shit I live in Massachsuetts and Kennedy is no longer in congress and those people are not poor, they are the lower end on wages. The good cop bad cop is somewhat moot. While the USA imports crude via Citgo, which BTW it you ever ran your car on it sucks, VE does not and cannot refine what it sells. It imports the vast portion of it's refined product, gasoline from the good old boys in the southern refinery states of the USA.
The only friendlys VE has in my USA congress are the bleeding liberal left that are slowly losing their jobs for for far from the middle.
