A delegation from the Argentine Patagonian province of Chubut fishing industry is on a business round of Brazil and the first city to visit was Florianópolis. The group led by Chubut governor Martin Buzzi is also scheduled to visit Sao Paulo and Brasilia.

In Florianópolis the delegation met with the state of Santa Catarina main importers and buyers from the following companies: Komlog Importacao Ltd, Supermercados Emperatriz, Full Comex Imp. Exp. Ltda., Vitalmar Com.Ind. de Pescados Ltda., Segalas Alimentos Ltda, Grimes e Pereira Ltda., Anjo Pesca Ind. e Com. De Pescados Ltda., Unno Trade Ltda. and Blaze Comercio Exterior Ltda.

The most requested products by buyers were shrimp, hake and golden kingklip, in all their varieties and in that order according to the local newspaper Jornada.

Governor Buzzi also held an interview with his counterpart from Santa Catarina, Raimundo Colombo, to discuss various topics plus the possibility of expanding fishing trade links between Chubut and the Brazilian state on a sustainable basis.

Following some of the meetings Chubut Undersecretary of Fisheries Hugo Stecconi said that “We have potential, which is what is being presented here and what producers have offered as part of this mission. We expect private parties can carry out their task given the goal the State is promoting with this round of discussions”.

With regard to the Brazilian market opening for Chubut shrimp Stecconi pointed out: “We are very hopeful that this is a market that can recover well, it is here to stay. So, this is obviously creating a huge expectation and great enthusiasm is shown by the delegation from Argentina.”

“This has just started, negotiations will begin and the seeds will be sowed. Last year Brazil was a major buyer of hake, so the possibility of maintaining this link is important for all our industry” added the Chubut fisheries official.

Annual fish produce exports for Chubut represent 150 million dollars annually and diversification is essential to keep developing said governor Bussi.

Chubut minister of production Eduardo Arzani said that the agenda for the round of contacts “was jointly prepared with the Foreign Ministry of Argentina and the consulates in Santa Catarina and Sao Paulo”. (FIS).
