While renewables are better, in the need for moving away from oil I'm reluctant to blanket oppose all nuclear power. However thorium seems to me a better bet than uranium, as if not more efficient but not so useful for the military; wonder why it never took off?! Maybe the likes of Vietnam, with nothing to owe to the US military, may want to experiment with it if they go nuclear?

I think India is going to be the country that properly pioneers the use of thorium in much the same way that Estonia is pioneering the use of shale oil. They simply have an awful lot of it readily at hand to use (about 1/4 of the world's readily accessible thorium ores are in India).
