Things keeps falling into pieces.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 01:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I cann this coming, the times of ''Trueques'', Patacones, Quebrachos and Lecop.
God what a failed estate.
Argentina is fighting the combined forces of the entire planet, the EU, USA, Brazil, China, Mexico, Australia, Japan, even other South American nations... they are all launching economic attacks against us.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 02:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It is difficult to do totally well when 95% of the planet wants for us to be destroyed.
Toby, None of those countries have shut off RG imports...yet. Wait another 90 days or so for that to happen and you'll really see some problems.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The economic mess you are in is a direct result of poor (insane) decisions from your rulers. BTW 95 % of the world population couldn't find Argentina on a map so stop being so full of yourself.
Ever think that whe you look in the mirror and see 95% of the world is not working your way, perhaps you need to take a hard look and ask.......maybe it's me?
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ever hear the saying:
The first time someone calls you a horse you punch him in the face. The second time someone calls you a horse, you call him a jerk. The third time someone calls you a horse, well, maybe it's time to buy a saddle.
Saddle up TTT. 95% of the world cannot be wrong.
@3 You are off message there. Remember, THE WHOLE WORLD is against Argentina, so that would be 99.5% wants you to be destroyed. Your government wants you to believe that so get the facts straight.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@4 Yes, 95% of the world's population does not even give Argentina a second thought.
So you all must be the dumbest 5%, or .05%, for giving a place no one else gives a damn about such dedication and effort of your time to insult and denigrate.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Poor Elaine, with her failed attempted slight (the most boring and bromide slight one can ever use, the no one cares about your country threadbare.... and one which yankeeboy, my personal pet with two neurons for a nervous system had used two post before anyway), she actually ends up making her and the others here ridiculous.
Imagine if I went to a website for the country of Eritrea and actually spent months and months posting there about their problems, and then dared to tell them you guys don't matter anyway... I mean how pathetic do I look saying that! I'm admitting I'm an imbecile for wasting my time on picayune and nugatory trivialities!
LOL, that was classic cutting your nose.
Part of my work is in Argentina, so I have every reason to keep up when I am not there. Did you miss out of that fact? I have mentioned it many times here.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'd wager I have seen more of your country than you have or ever will.
Toby, I have friends and family there and lived in that filthy horrible place for many years BUT the main reason I watch what is going on is so that I can see where the Progressives in my country want to take us. It is very scary and I don't want the USA every to be like Argentina.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina is the perfect example of how bad government can destroy a naturally rich country. It must be studied.
@9 The USA will never be an Argentina, mostly because of the positive attitude and work ethic of the people there.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina could have been like the USA but, alas, when they embraced Nationalism they blew it.
@8
Sep 05th, 2012 - 03:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There is no reason whatsoever for you to keep up. You simply (if you had a real job), would be given a narrow briefing of your mission, nothing more nothing less. No need to learn about crime rates, societal preferences, food, politics, economics... no real job requires such wide and unfocused analysis as you end up being good at none of them. The job market today is one of specialization.
Busted again.
I love it how Elaine and yankeeboy immediately came out with cockomaney excuses. If you yankeeboy really wanted to follow a profile you have it in the Soviet Union, in terms of population size. So, nope, busted again.
lol, this is so easy to unmasquarade.
You are very wrong, there are many similarities to the founding of the USA and Argentina and very few or none at all with the Soviet Union. Do you know any history?
Sep 05th, 2012 - 04:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0With good government Argentina could've, would've should've been our rival, but that was long ago. Your children will be living in a country that looks very much like Bolivia today.
How can a country of 8 million people in 1900 be any rival of a country of 100 million?? Are you cognizant of how ridiculous your premise is?
Sep 05th, 2012 - 04:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If in 100 China and the USA have the same per capita income, China will have an economy 10 times bigger... the USA will have no chance against them no matter what you do.
Population matters, dork.
@11 Silly boy. What do you know about the jobs market? Nothing.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 04:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0What do you know about my job? Absolutely nothing.
Funny, all your responses atrophy to you know nothing, about your job, job market, history, my own country even.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 04:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Then I'm called the arrogant one for jokingly teasing you all that I'm smart with a high IQ (and you keep falling for the same trick!), but your under the nose arrogance is what, maternal tough love?
lol.... and besides, if you really travel all over the world, are you going to tell me there are enough hours in the day for you to watch events in all other countries you visit, which btw, would involve even MORE painstaking focus since most of the other countries, your words, matter much more than Argentina (and us such you would think you would keep up to date that much more).
lolololol
No, my work at the moment is focused on Latin America but primarily in the Southern Cone. That's all.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 04:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'm too tired to lay it out for you and I think you are too obtuse to understand what the world was like from 1800-1947.

@ 17 No disrespect to him but I sometimes wonder if he really lives in Argentina. He doesn't see it the way it is, knows very little outside of a very small area and doesn't hold the views of people I meet with there. Maybe a few die-hard nationalists might concur.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 05:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes, Argentina was indeed the promised land, especially around the 1900 -1910 mark. It was debatable which would be the economic superpower, the US or Argentina. Argentina had the edge back then. I have to assume that is not taught in Argentine schools because it would highlight how far they fell.
They still have the resources to be wealthy and successful but there would have to be such a change in attitude across the whole country for that to ever be achieved. Many Argentines I speak to are aware of it but they tend to live in the now because they cannot trust to believe in a successful future.
I would not bother to ever anwser TTT. His youthful ignorance is only out performed by his indoctrinated arrogance. Like CFK, give him a perch and he will sing a song that sounds good to only him.
Sep 05th, 2012 - 06:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It's highly likely he is not from argentina or he would see people disappointed when raises are below 30%, rents increasing annually 25%, bare shelves in stores and it goes goes on. In the above post, he cry's that 95% of the world is against argentina and yet he and argentina refuses any introspection of why that is. He is his own falling tree in a forest where no one will hear him.
LOL, argies think the world is all against them. Actually the world just doesn't care about em at all, either way, they don't feel anger or hate, just disinterest, YOU'RE NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH FOR HATE, argies. Ask 99 percent of Brits (not the ones on this forum) and they honestly don't care about the Falklands or Argentina.

I wish that they could see that they could be relevant if they would stop being a joke and become a real country.

You gotta have money and power to be hated, Argentina, you have neither. USA is the most hated because it's the richest and most powerful, see how that works? No one is against you, no one cares about you! No one cares about the poor bums in the streets...which is exactly what Argentina is on the global economic streets, a poor bum with its hand out, shouting angrily at anyone who doesn't give it money.

Sep 06th, 2012 - 12:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0In the recent past perhaps, most are starting to feel sorry for the USA now. Notice how Americans have become 10 fold more jingoistic in places like Yahoo! boards, or other forums, even here look at yankeeboy and poppy. I remember a time when they weren't so overt, they knew they were tops... but now they know they have fallen signficantly in education, standard of living, and economic importance.
The best proof of this was in 2008... with a financial crisis in the USA like the one they faced (the worst in 70 years), Latin America would have COLLAPSED. In fact, it used to be that when the USA had a recession Latin America had a financial meltdown... Asia would have a massive drop in growth, Europe would slow down, etc.
This time, NOTHING happened. Not even a blip in Latin America, Asia just kept on going, etc.
That's the future. They still have the military, but it is rented from China. When they wise up and stop lending money to them, they will have a military as powerful as Austria's.
Yankee do you happen to recall if the story about a community having their employees having a lottery to see which one will get paid.......mmmmmm, now was that in the United States or was that argentina? I think that in itself speaks more than anyone blogging on Mercos can possible debate about that state of financial affairs of a country.
Sep 06th, 2012 - 01:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0When it comes right down to it, time will show who outlasts who. I think when a group of people have never known what self sufficiency is and true prosperity, its easy to argue a everyone must be like that.
Afterall, no one the the USA is telling it's citizens that it cannot purchase another countries currency, having the tax agency review your grocery purchases, tax and review internet and foreign purchases and to a point, tell you where to vacation. Not to mention allowing children and foreign residents to vote. Freedom like that, who needs to be incarcerated ?
Captain, this is why I am sure that Provincial Gov't will be issuing Patacones in the very near future. They're all out of Peso and will have no choice. It will probably happen right around Christmas like it did in 2002.
Sep 06th, 2012 - 11:02 am - Link - Report abuse 0Rg are brainwashed from birth to think that they are on the top end of the world, in economy, in culture, education on and on. It worked in the 50-80s when very few of them ever traveled outside of the country, there was no internet or Int'l TV. I think the smart ones realized they were on the bottom of the heap after 1978 when color/Intl Tv was introduced. Even then the old teachings were well ingrained. So the ones who have never traveled don't know how dirty and backward their Capital is not to mention the rest of the country.
When my Rg friends come to visit me we always go to NYC and they are gobsmacked. They ALWAYS say They have no idea! meaning people from BA have no idea what a sh*thole they are living in compared to NYC. What they don't understand until they spend enough time here is, we still have LA, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Houston, DC, Boston, San Fran etc etc etc. They end up getting a little depressed when the lies they have been told all of their lives finally are realized. Did your wife have the same reaction?
You look at Toby's #27 post. He is so ill informed about the outside world it is a waste of time to respond to the post. People that have lived, worked, traveled to the USA know there is nothing like it in the world, know we aren't going any where soon and agree it is the best country in the world for business.
A few years ago IDB was sending most of the G4 visa holders back to their country of origin. You should have seen the Rgs they were freaking out! They were scared to death for their children and didn't want them growing up there. It was pretty sad.
BTW saw today the Arg Peso is $8.40/1 U$ in Brazil
10/1 by Christmas (or maybe sooner)
Yes she did. She worked here a while but is still amazed at the choices. Her family always, I mean always spend all their time i the stores and not just department stores.....even grocery stores. They always say.....you just do not know what you have.
Sep 06th, 2012 - 11:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0I agree with them, most Americans think every place in the world is like the USA. I truly appreciate the time I spent living outside of the USA, I became much more patriotic since I finally realized what we have to offer and how great a place this really is.
Sep 06th, 2012 - 12:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0When I was living in BA I was pretty insulated from a lot of the every day problems. We had 5 people working full time at our house. Which seems like a lot to an American but because of the difficulties you have to endure daily it is necessary if you want to get anything done!
The reason I moved back was because even being as insulated as I was it was still too difficult to live there, can't write check to pay bills, inflation getting out of control ( this was years ago! I can't imagine what it is like now), escalating , crime, kidnappings, commando assaults on our neighbor's houses, losing electricity when it rains, losing internet when it is windy on and on and it was really a bunch of little things that all add up to a pretty miserable lifestyle when you are used to the 1st world.
I still have a lot of friends and family there and from all accounts it is getting REALLY bad. They are all hunkered down waiting for it all to collapse. I am glad everyday I moved back to the USA.
I agree it is much more affordable to have someone cook, clean and do laundry than in the states. I typically stay in Recoleta when you go. House assaults/ invasions were rising incredibly in the suburban areas. I recall when I first went there and saw all the houses with walls or fences and thought they were for privacy as the states, but was immediately corrected that is was for security.
Sep 06th, 2012 - 02:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I lived across from the 4 Seasons but after awhile I couldn't stand the noise and dirt of the city so I moved to ZNorte on the RDP. I liked it there until we got new neighbors and their barking dog drove me crazy so we moved way out to a really lovely Quinta with 25 hectares. It used to be used by one the their Presidents for private meetings whatever that means!
Sep 06th, 2012 - 02:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That is when the security started to get really really bad. I had 12 foot walls, a guard in the front and the back, my neighbors had an old Estancia house next door with huge gates and guards. Then some of neighbors were having commando assaults on their houses! Multiple assaults through out the neighborhood! There were also lots of problems with robbers/kidnappers boxing in people's cars as they left the highway. Too scary for me so it was time to go home.
I hear there's a new protedt in the city (BA) for 9/13. They need to start banging those pots on heads.

Then the video shows scenes that have sparked controversy and outrage on social networks.
The band is originally from Argentina and Venezuela and is clearly that through this video is seeking an absolute provocation.

Sep 08th, 2012 - 11:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Thats nonsense, the US opened Japan as far back as 1854 and was signing Unequal Treaties with China around the same time; by 1898 they had full scale colonies in the Pacific like the Phillipines, occupied Cuba and had been controlling much of the backyard for decades; while industry was built up very rapidly post-Civil War in the era of the robber barons. But if you had been right, and if Argentina had further consolidated its edge and become the world's only superpower (imagine Cristina as ruler of the world =) though if Argentina were America Cristina would be in opposition!) then what would have become of the Falklands. I imagine most of the right wingers on here would be parroting the Malvinista arguments to justify the recovery of the Islands by the new empire from the old! The actual arguments about the 1820s and 30s would be the same but the language of power would be different...
Btw Elaine what is your work. Banking, perhaps?

Sep 10th, 2012 - 07:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 070% of Argentines Disapprove of Populist Leader's Economic Policies
BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- President Cristina Kirchner's popularity has fallen dramatically amid worries of high inflation according to Argentine polling company Management & Fit. Just 30% of Argentinians approve of her handling of the economy, an approval rating that has continued to drop over the last year.
According to reports, growing public discontent is largely a result of economic contraction and soaring inflation, which has eroded purchasing power. The nation's statistics agency, INDEC, reported an annual inflation rate of 9.9% in July, but private analysts estimate it is running well above 20%. The Kirchner Administration bans the publication of independent economic data that conflicts with the Government's reports and formally suspended three consumer-focused NGOs this week after they published inflation data that differed from official statistics.
“Argentina's runaway inflation – now among the highest in the world – reflects the degree and depth of the Kirchner Administration's economic mismanagement. The Argentine people are still suffering from President Kirchner's mismanagement of the debt default and restructuring. The failure to repay the country's debt to private creditors has left the government effectively locked out of the international credit market and has discouraged foreign investment. Price subsidies and strict currency controls have added to the country's macro-economic problems.”
”It is no surprise that the President's popularity wanes as Argentina's real inflation statistics become known. These poll results illustrate that the majority of Argentines do not support the government's protectionist and isolationist economic agenda. In
